Learners practice various types of math problems while developing their thinking and analytical skills. HOMESCHOOL FRIENDLY: Perfect as a supplement to classroom work or as a homeschool resource to boost studentsโ confidence. Review: Excellent mind book - My son enjoyed the book. It is a good addition to Irish schooling system that does not provide enough mental math. Now my son will try out Word problems. I really recommend anybody to try Singapore math books, cheap for an excellent exercise to your kid. Review: Not a great book to teach maths - I am a primary school teacher with 5 years of experience of teaching in UK schools I have recently learnt about the Singapore method and find it an excellent way to teach maths. However, I am unsure if this book really follows the Singapore method. It has none of the visuals models that I have come to know that is great about Singapore maths. This book focuses on uses mainly "tricks" to get students to respond to problems. For example: multiplying a 4 digit number by 11. 5243 x 11 The solution recommended is: the first and last digits will remain the same. To find the middle digits, start with the left and add each digits to the next digits. so 5243 x 11 can be resolved by (5 + 2) (2 + 4) (4 + 3) so the answer is (remember to keep the first and last digits the same) 57, 673. These tricks are all well and good, but there is absolutely no explanation for students as to WHY or HOW they work. More importantly, getting students to recall 30 or so strategies is bound to fail - they simply will not remember them!!! Behind each of these strategies students will need to understand the maths concepts and good visuals to support their understanding. The explanation of the maths ideas behind these strategies are never expounded in this publication. I will not be purchasing anymore SAP publications as I am unsure if they really are following the Singapore Maths methods. Purchase with caution.

Great practice strategies
These books are great for teaching/practicing mental math strategies. Each strategy is explained & demonstrated followed by about 10 practice problems. Math skills in this series tend to be about 1 grade level higher than labeled according to US public school standards.
