This is very similar in use to the bullet comparator, the red body clamps to the lower jaw of your digital caliper with the proper bushing in it. In the case of the head space guage, you put a fired case in the guage and zero the caliper. The bushing meets the shoulder at the datum line. Ok then you put the case in your press and resize it with a full length die that is not screwed all the way down. Measure the shoulder to base length with the zeroed caliper as you continue to move the die down. When the calipers read -0.003 you have bumped the shoulder back 3 thousandths. I bump 2 or 3. Run the rest of your fire formed brass through die as set and you are good go. Do this only for bolt action guns, always full length resize brass for a semi-auto. The headspace gage pack covers everything from 22 hornet to 338 caliber. I use it for my 338 Lapua loads. It's njot a bushing. The kit measures headspace on the shoulder datum of a bottleneck cartridge using the supplied anvil and inserting the appropriate bored insert. You take a previously fired round, and measure the actual headspace with the corrext gage (the gage usage per caliber is listed on a chart that comes with the kit). Once you ascertain the existing headspace, if, you are experiencing a heavy bolt closure or getting brass wipe on the bolt face, start by bumping the shoulder back 0.001 (you check that with the gage and caliper as well and if that eliminates the heavy bolt closure or brass wipe, 0.001 is enough. As a rule I bump 0.001 and if I increase the charge and experience brass wipe or heavy bolt closure, I increase the bump accordingly. Like I said, the kit comes with ALL THE NECESSARY INSERTS TO GAGE FROM 22 HORNET TO 338 LAPUA. If you want to gage laerger than 338 caliber, you need to get a larger insert.The gage don't measure the body of the brass, it measures shoulder datum. Bottleneck cartridges index in the chamber on the shoulder only. Bumping back thr shoulder allows a cartridge to chamber more easily in a tight chamber. Temember, all chambers are different, like fingerprints, no 2 are identical. **Q: Wil it work for 7mm rem mag** A: Yes it will work for any belted magnum. While a new factory round will headspace off the belt, once the case has been fired you can use the shoulder for headspace, which is were this would be very handy. Use it for my 300 Win Mag and 338 Win Mag all the time. **Q: How can I buy the bushing for my 6.5 creedmoore?** A: Look above at the chart. 6.5 Creedmoor is listed under the bushing "C375." Unfortunately, the Sinclair site (now run by Brownell's) is now out of many reloading products.
