Bosch 5 In. Variable-Speed Angle Grinder with Paddle Switch and Dust Guard GWS13-50VSP-DG

Bosch makes a good feedback controlled variable speed unit that is smooth and doesn't hunt for the chosen speed (unlike Hitachi and Porter Cable from my experience). I bought this on a lightning deal and may buy another if it is offered again for the same price. I'll never buy another single speed grinder. For things like sanding paint, the slower speeds keep the paint from melting into the sandpaper; this also works well with the mesh abrasive wheels. Wire wheels are another reason to use slow speeds and avoid broken wire missiles that penetrate heavy clothing etc. I really like the paddle switch on this grinder (and paddle switch over slide switch grinders in general) There are other paddle switches that are a lot harder to use, especially while wearing gloves. The blade guard is OK, a lot easier to actually use than some older grinders. The diameter of the motor housing where you have to hold it is a little big for small hands (maybe that's why they also offer slide switch models) but I have no problem with holding it and the paddle switch. I seldom use side handles on mini grinders, so I cannot comment on the included handle. The threaded spindle is long enough for most standard accessories and there is a step for 7/8" center diameter wheels.

Bought this angle grinder to even out rough concrete and cut slate tile. It did a great job on those tasks. Seems well made. The multiple speed selections are handy. Would look for speed selection on any grinder. The Bosch VAC002 vacuum adaptor does not fit the dust shield, even though Bosch states that it does. If there’s a downside, it’s that the grinder is not small and pretty heavy. My arms got a bit tired after a day of moderate use. Might be an issue if you’re a heavy user. The safety interlock was not the easiest to activate but they’re supposed to be. The grinder was comfortable and maneuverable. Haven’t owned the grinder for very long so can’t comment on durability. Recommended. Would buy again. It should be more popular than it is.

This thing rocks PURE AND SIMPLE!!!!! Versatile, powerful, speed control is great. I have used this thing a lot, and it has outperformed my expectations. The Power switch is great and does not cause fatique.

I decided to buy this one instead of Dewalt variable speed because of its cheaper price after coupon and prime discounts. I received a brand new item with Bosch sealed stickers. It's a nice angle grinder.

Knocking down a weld at high speed and then finishing it off at low speed to almost a polish with 80 grit!!! Cmon this thing is amazing. It’s comfortable, it’s not as loud as most, it comes with the adjustable guard and guide, the price is unrealistic compared to what you can achieve with this thing and just think of all the angle grinder extras we all make like, chop saw, bench grinder and belt sanders. The variable speed and power this gives at full makes those extras even more versatile. If you don’t have one of these in your shop you are crazy. No joke it will make you wonder why you haven’t had one all along and will open up your imagination again it’s that great. Love it!!!

Unit included the "saw" shroud with dust collection and that was exactly what was needed to re-work a granite counter cutout - With a thin diamond blade, the combination was fast and easy to use and made clean cuts with most of the dust being caught by the vacuum - not a finished cut like for an under mounted sink but a perfectly fine result for a normal install and without removing or replacing the counter top.
