Review: I've been teaching English as a second language since 2013 and when I saw the authors of the book were Penny Ure and Scott Thornbury I knew it would be good as these are two top authors of teaching methods and materials within the industry. Moreover, the publishers University Cambridge Press always produce the best books. Just as the title suggests, the book contains 100 fun and engaging activities for teachers to use in the classroom. The activities can be adapted to suit all levels, and there are a number of pictures and pages that can be photocopied and used as handouts. The activities have been grouped into six categories: the four skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading) plus the two main language systems grammar and vocabulary. The activities are designed to be used in a physical classroom. I've been teaching exclusively online for many years now, but a number of the activities I can adapt for my online classrooms. A few of the activities I've seen before due to owning other books by the authors and having been in the industry now for a while, however I've still managed to get a lot of new ideas from the book. For new teachers out there, especially physical classroom based teachers, this book is filled with brilliant ideas to get the students engaged in fun activities in the classroom. The teacher instructions are very easy to follow, meaning this really cuts down on preparation time, a huge plus. That said, as a more experienced teacher I've still got a lot out of the book, so it's worth getting even if you're an experienced teacher looking for some new, fresh ideas. I'm very pleased to have added this book to my collection of ESL books. Furthermore, I'm happy to recommend it.

I've been using teaching ideas books by Penny Ur since my early days of teacher training, and this one continues the great tradition of super practical, instantly usable advice for beefing up your MFL classroom game. There's an excellent range of activities that cover all axes - word, sentence and text level, as well as the four skills reading, writing, listening and speaking. The book is organised neatly around those skills, and I honestly don't think there's a dud one in here - it really is 100 solid ideas for packing out a lesson plan. I work with chiefly with French, German and Spanish, and everything is easily applicable - likewise, it would be an excellent resource for EFL teaching and others. With the great education writing pedigree, it's just solid, practical ideas from a name many of us are happily familiar with from past publications. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to new and experienced teachers, as there'll be something in there for every classroom. Great stuff.
