Bought this for a relative, I already own one. It’ll make your knives razor sharp, I know from experience because I’ve accidentally cut myself after sharpening. You’ll not regret your purchase, but please do be very careful!

Here is the Executive Summary: Buy this. You will like it. I have tried just about every knife sharpener there is from plain wet stones to expensive electric models. This is the one I always go back to. It is by far the easiest sharpener I have found. Best of all, it really works! No particular skill is required. As long as you can cut straight down you will be able to keep your knives sharp. This is my go-to Wedding present. I know it will get used and be appreciated. It is also durable and long lasting. Will it produce the most ultra razor sharp 8 degree sushi cutting edge you have ever seen? No. Will it keep your everyday kitchen and hunting knives sharp and ready to be safely used? Absolutely. I have several of these. One in the kitchen, one in the motor home, one in my game processing bag and one in my fishing bag. I have to get another one for my friend in Honduras. His wife confiscated the one I gave him to have in her kitchen. Like I said. Buy this. You will like it.

Does the job. I have had a steel for years but there were a couple knives that weren't that sharp from the factory. With a little work, this put a very sharp edge back on them that I can hopefully maintain with the steel. This isn't idiot proof, in that it doen't hold the blade at an exact angle every time. It's simple enough to get the prescribed angle by simply holding the knife blade perfectly vertical. But there is room for error, I haven't mastered how to put a shoulder angle and then an edge angle quite yet, but I followed directions and ended up with an edge that felt very sharp by feel. Not sure it's razor sharp or sharp enough to cut a paper without holding the paper rigid, but it's a lot sharper than the knives were. I don't anticipate having to use this much at all, as it's more for removing metal and restoring an edge that's been worn off. I'll use a steel to maintain the edges on my knives until they really can't be steeled back to sharp, then use this. This may be a little tough to use on longer knives, as you'd have to pull a lot more than move downward. To sharpen a 10 inch carving knife, it would be difficult unless you sharpened in two sections. For a steak knife it's fine, though I did have to do separate passes to sharpen the curved tip of the knife.

easy to use effective sharpener

I've tried several types of knife-sharpening systems including different types of stones and electric sharpeners. Until I purchased this Lansky system, I was never able to sharpen any of my knives to a truly sharp edge. Not that I have a collection of high-quality knives. Most of mine are budget-type folding knives and a few camping knives that I purchased based on price instead of quality. Even so, the budget knives should still be capable of being honed to a good, sharp edge even if that sharpness won't last very long with repeated use of the knife. Well, the first four knives I sharpened with the Lansky system became sharp enough to shave with. We're talking M-Tech and similar style folders here. So I can highly recommend this system. To me, it's well worth the money and I'll probably purchase another one as soon as this one starts showing any significant wear on the sharpening rods. It is incredibly easy to use and gives remarkable results in much less time than a traditional sharpening stone. I don't think it would be as easy to use with knives that have blades longer than six or seven inches, but one of these days, I'll test out some of my larger knives to see how this tool works with them. In the meantime, I'm loving this tool. It works, it's fast, and it's easy.

I bought this newer ceramic/diamond hybrid Lansky sharpener because one of the ceramic rods on my 1st Lansky fell and broke. The new diamond impregnated steel rods are great for premium steel, like S30V, and they save many strokes over ceramic rods. Follow with the included ceramic rods provides a razor-sharp edge. I've used many sharpeners before settling on this one for all my premium steel (hard) knives. It didn't have the ubiquitous 'Made in China' label on it, so it appears to be US made. The rods fit tightly in the box holes, and the swivel rod cover holds them in place for travel. Thanks Lansky for making my go-to knife portable sharpener.

Es de fácil uso, sólo me falta buscar un desarmador para guardar la cerámica. Afilé un cuchillo aus 8a con curvatura en menos de 5 minutos, hasta me corté un poco al limpiar el filo. No lo he intentado con los otros metales que tengo ya que no necesitan aún mantenimiento pero lo veo muy funcional y práctico

Funciona muy bién y es muy fácilmente portable, pero cuesta un poco de utilizar. Una vez aprendes, perfecto. Altamente recomendable.
