## Description

Triple Comedy Award-winner Miranda Hart brings us Miranda Series 1 on DVD.Miranda is desperate to fit in, but her public school background makes her a bit of a misfit, especially compared to childhood rival Tilly (Sally Phillips) and the rest of 'the girls' (not least because she's a foot taller than them all). She can’t seem to quite grasp how to behave socially and constantly fails to avoid embarrassing situations, especially around men, specifically Gary (Tom Ellis) her old friend from Uni. A constant disappointment to her mother Penny (Patricia Hodge), and lacking any real capacity or interest for business, Miranda employs her childhood friend Stevie (Sarah Hadland) to manage her joke shop, within which Miranda is at her happiest, playing with anything from Pirate Hats to fart machines.Despite blowing her whole inheritance on a joke shop and employing childhood friend Stevie to manage it, Miranda is desperate to fit in; a near-impossible task with her over-bearing mother, Penny's, constant attempts to marry her off. When long-term crush Gary Preston returns from his travels, Miranda bumps into him and, anxious not to make one of her usual conversational cock-ups, talks all about her Olympic gymnastic achievements and her two children, Orlando and Bloom. Surely everyone ends up lying to impress when they're nervous, don't they? After an impromptu "date" is planned, Miranda decides to "Trinny and Susannah" herself, and takes a trip to the new "bespoke" clothing store, Transformers, picking an outfit guaranteed to stop people calling her sir to her face. A reluctant lunch with newly engaged Sloane Ranger school friends Tilly and Fanny leads to a wedding dress shopping bonanza and leaves Miranda looking like she's had a chiffon-based anaphylactic shock, witnessed by a delighted Penny and rather terrified Gary.It doesn't matter what Miranda attempts in life – be it dating, trying to cancel her gym membership, or simply dealing with her overbearing mother--she always seems to fall flat, quite literally, and is incapable of leaving a room without knocking something over.

Review: Brilliant! Perfect comedic timing! - I have been a fan of Miranda Hart ever since I stumbled upon her series from the BBC called 'Miranda.' I watched all of season one and two on YouTube, (living in America and not having access to the BBC,) though as the series' are copyrighted they were quickly removed from the web. This meant I'd have to purchase the DVD's in order to continue watching and loving the show. Which brings me here! I've just gotten season one and intend to purchase season two, (and eventually three,) as soon as I get my next paycheck! 'Miranda' is such a funny show and reminds me a lot of the American show back in the the fifties called "I Love Lucy." Miranda seems to always get herself in a pickle. She finds herself jumping out of windows, impersonating other people by accident, and searching for love in all of the most unlikely places. At 6 feet tall she seems to be mistaken as a man far too often, and has great adventures with her very short, (but loyal,) best friend Stevie. One of the funniest things about 'Miranda' is the way Miranda Hart speaks to directly to the audience, (I often find that I see myself in her strange and awkward character,) and its very like you as an audience member are going through all of Miranda's crazy antics and adventures along with her. I highly, HIGHLY, recommend this show to anyone 15 and up, (there are some not very child friendly--but, super funny jokes,) and to anyone who likes lots of comic relief at the end of a long day. I did also purchase a second copy of season one in order to spread the Miranda love and send a good friend a gift; I can't wait until she receives it! SUCH FUN!
Review: Just brilliant!!! - I watched the first episode of Series 2 last night and have logged on today to check whether my copy of Series 1 is on it's way yet (not quite...) because now I really want to watch the first series all over again. I love sitcoms - mainly American ones. But it takes something pretty special to make me laugh out loud, wipe away tears of laughter, shout encouragement at the screen, cheer and go "awwww" quite as much as I did watching Miranda last night. The first Series was great - especially the episode where she goes on "holiday" round the corner from her flat. Great sympathetic characters, loads of visual and verbal jokes, never takes itself too seriously (in fact it's very silly) but never goes for a cheap laugh either. Enough in-jokes and catchphrases to allow familiarity, but not so many that they breed contempt. And Miranda herself is just brilliant!!! And then there's Gary.......ahhhh..... If last night was anything to go by, the new series is going to be at least as good as the first. Let's hope we don't have to wait another whole year for it come out on DVD! Such fun!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ It may be a little early to write a review but it's so funny
*by H***X on 19 November 2009*

I have only seen two episodes as yet but I must say that I am one of those people who find very few comedians funny, who remain straight-faced when others are having fun and yet, I have not only smiled but laughed watching both episodes. Miranda Hart is heart-warming and the character she portrays is endearingly awkward and very moving as well as extremely funny. I love her facial expressions which are fun without being over the top clownish. It might be an old-fashioned sort of funny but it suits me fine and I have found some moments that were (in my opinion) little gems. The awful mother is a wonderful creation and totally believable in all her nastiness. And watching Miranda's elated face at finding stuff her size in that shop for cross dressers was hilarious , as was her chasing after Gary dressed as a bride. I hope it continues in this vein because then I will be sure to buy the DVD.It is not often I find shows that actually make me laugh! this is one of them!
