Winter savory essential oil ? Satureja Montana - This essential oil of winter savory (Satureja montana) has been used historically as a general tonic for the body always mixed with a vegetal oil carrier (base) and in a highly diluted form. It is native to warm and temperate regions of southern Europe. It is a perennial plant that reaches 50 cm high and has white flowers. Winter savory has greyish green leaves creating a thick outer layer, and a spicy taste. Winter savory is often used as a culinary herb, but has medicinal benefits, especially for the digestive system. The whole plant, and especially the floral buds, are moderately antiseptic, aromatic, carminative, digestive, expectorant and stomach. It is a remedy against colic and flatulence, also to treat gastroenteritis, cystitis, nausea, diarrhea, bronchial congestion, menstrual disorders. It has medicinal use as a stimulant and aphrodisiac. In ointment it is used externally against arthritis. Its essential oil is a transparent liquid, from yellow to reddish brown. Characteristic, strong, light touch to spices, phenolic.
