Stable, Budget-Friendly WiFi 6 Mesh with Impressive Coverage
I purchased the Halo H60X system to upgrade from an ageing AC router setup and bring WiFi 6 capabilities into a mid-sized 4-bedroom house. After three weeks of use, hereโs my experience from a performance and technical perspective: โ WiFi 6 at an Entry-Level Price Supports 802.11ax (WiFi 6), which brings OFDMA and MU-MIMO for better handling of multiple simultaneous connections. I noticed a tangible improvement in latency and device performance under load (20+ devices), especially for smart home gear. โ True Mesh, Seamless Roaming All three units form a single SSID mesh with seamless roamingโmeaning I can walk between floors or into the garden without any drops or IP reassignments. Handover is smooth even during video calls. โ Beamforming & Signal Stability Beamforming support gives this mesh an edge for range. One unit is placed on the loft floor and still delivers ~120 Mbps to a WiFi 6 smartphone two floors down. Walls are not a major issue unless theyโre solid brickโrange is excellent in modern homes. โ Gigabit Ports โ Ideal for Wired Backhaul Each unit has 2x Gigabit Ethernet ports, and Iโve set up a wired Ethernet backhaul via Powerline adapters. This drastically improves backhaul bandwidth, reducing mesh latency and avoiding 5GHz backhaul congestion. โ Setup & App Experience Setup is via the MERCUSYS app (powered by TP-Link). Initial pairing was fast, firmware updated in under 5 minutes. The interface is basic but reliableโno advanced QoS or parental controls, but it offers device prioritisation, guest network, and basic DHCP settings. โ Speed Tests Using a 500 Mbps Virgin line: Wired (Gigabit LAN): 475โ490 Mbps WiFi 6 device near router: 450โ470 Mbps WiFi 5 laptop (one node away): ~270โ320 Mbps WiFi 6 phone at max distance: ~120 Mbps โ ๏ธ Limitations No advanced admin settings like port forwarding granularity, VLANs, or VPN pass-through toggles. Lacks USB ports and smart integrations like Alexa or IFTTT (unlike TP-Link Deco). The app is quite minimalโgreat for beginners, but power users may want more. Verdict: For under ยฃ100 (at time of purchase), the Halo H60X punches well above its weight. Itโs ideal for homes with moderate technical demands who want WiFi 6 speed, mesh coverage, and wired backhaul support. Not for networking enthusiasts, but a rock-solid performer for households and smart homes.

So far, so good
Initial thoughts as I've only just completed setup. Had no trouble setting the units up and what problems I did have were due to the Virgin router which I put in modem mode so I could reuse the existing login and password. This allowed all my other devices (cameras and Alexa etc) to act as if nothing had happened. I had already changed the WiFi card in my laptop to be WiFi 6 capable and now I have a fast connection. I'd tried a few things prior to this but these devices so far, seem to work great. I have a large house with lots of walls and the units connect well. A week later: Still impressed with the speed. Further problems with the Virgin router though as the Virgin cable box reported it had no Ethernet connection so plugged it into the Halo (which has enough Ethernet connections) instead of the router and it now works fine. It seems that when converting the Virgin router to modem only mode, it also disconnects all the Ethernet connections although they were still showing flashing lights indicating that they were working. After a few weeks of using these, I am still very happy with the speeds but I have spotted a potential problem for some users. The main base station which is plugged into the router broadcasts to the two satellite units but they in turn do no communicate with each other so it is strictly not a true mesh sytem. Other than that, they work fine. A few months later: I've deducted a star because it isn't a true mesh sytem and it has started acting a little temperamental. Switching the main unit off and on again seems to have cured it for the moment.

Early days but it's done exactly what I wanted to do so far
I've been using power line extenders to get a signal from the house to a steel framed man cave, the router is installed at the front of the house and the man cave at the back about 25m away. The powerline tech did work reasonably well but despite being some bit tech savvy, I could never get the set up to be "unified" in one network... so I was always changing network on some devices I spent ages looking at mesh wifi products and there's so little to differentiate the performance for many of the suppliers. Mercusys are a subsidiary of TP Link [so good quality in my experience] and this H60X 3 pack was on sale for ยฃ100 and seemed the right offering for my situation Out of the box, the "router" set up was easy enough but I was a little thrown by the fact the "satellites" seemed to be set up already... I tried to "add" them but they set themselves up in seconds. Strange.. they looked new and untouched So for the acid test. I moved the first satellite to the back of the house on a window sill... about 30 feet from the router. Through 2 concrete walls. Great signal! Then moved the 2nd satellite into the cave... put it in line with a window and the 1st satellite... BINGO! there's been a great signal since, perfect streaming and no drops. I didn't like where the 2nd satellite was so moved it about 6 feet but now no longer in line through a window... signal went weak... moved it back and signal is fine again. The point is when they say a strategic placement is needed, they mean it. I got lucky with my placements... will try moving the 1st satellite upstairs to see if I can improve the connections. Early days but mission accomplished... I didn't think they would "daisy chain" from the front to the rear of the property, they do!

Email account hacked when registering!!
Huge problems with this mesh. Had to download the app and setup an account. Did not get the confirmation email to the registered btinternet.com address. Within minutes found that the email address had been hacked and phising emails sent to all contacts. Contacted BT to secure the account but hackers then used same contacts list to send emails from newly set up hotmail accounts. Phishing emails included requests to buy stuff on Amazon. Set up a new gmail.com account (with no associated contact list) to register with the Mercusys app account. This worked fine and the rest of the set up was straightforward. The mesh has good coverage and good speeds but would be very wary of buying again due to bad experience with hacked email account. This MAY have been coincidental with the Mercusys account set up but it is VERY suspicious.

Very Effective & Very Easy
Edit: This network is, frankly, now useless. Speeds are so slow. No one in the house uses it. It still provides some back up, but in the end is not worth the money. I received this at about 6.30 pm. I had it working by 6.45. Honestly, super super easy. You plug the "router" unit of this pack into your powered-down internet box with the supplied cable. You turn it back on. The light goes green. The web app talks you through this and allows you to name your network and set your password. Then you plug in the two satellite boxes where you want them, in my case one in the kitchen and one upstairs in the bedroom. After about 3 minutes, they automatically connected. Boom, done. Network strength and speed is good, so far. A bit pricy, but works perfectly and with ZERO fuss. Well worth it.

Mercusys are so easy to setup
I am an IT guy but not much of a networking guy. The Mercusys Halo systems are the easiest WiFi improvements you could set up. All done on the app, walks you through the process and it's easy to set up parental controls or bandwidth limits. I had h30s, but limited to 100mbs internet. Upgraded to these H50s and the improvements have been yuge. My main desktop PC now gets over 10mbs internet, the Pi media server streams awesomely to every device in the house and I can now stream games without it looking like a slideshow. Wish I could have got the h80s but these h60s have been a generational upgrade themselves. Good but of kit.

Mecursys H60 Halo WIFI6 mesh
I ordered the Mercusys Halo H60 Wifi Mesh as I needed a WIFI6 Mesh system in my home Once it arrived (next day with Amazon Prime) I unboxed the device, there are 3 units, 1 x H60R (Route) and 2 x H60x (Satellite boxes) I connected the H60R to my Sky SR203 Router via a ethernet cable - NOTE the one in the box is CAT5 which is a bit pointless for a WIFI6 Network, so I ordered 5 x 1.5m CAT6 Network cables seperately You have to download the app and register yourself, which took minutes Once the H60R was powered on and connected I used the app to setup the system this was very easy to do and once connected I created a new SSID and password Once this was done, I setup the further 2 boxes and that was it, it was very simple So I was with 2 issues... both my Sky router and Halo was publishing the SSID's so I had to go into the Sky admin page and disable WIFI on my Sky Router That solved that issue, next was I getting "Double NAT" on my Xbox, this is when you have 2 routers To fix that, you either have to put your ISP router into "bridge" or "modem" mode, or change the Halo system to "Access Point" mode (compared to router mode) Unfortunately the Sky SR203 doesnt allow Bridge mode, so I just changed the Halo via the App and it resolved the double natting problem (more based around gaming and lag) This meant it was using the Sky for IP/DHCP etc rather than the Halo offering IP's on a different Subnet So overall this is a great solution for basic networking, it cost me ยฃ89 for the 3 Halo's and now i am getting 400mbs on 5Ghz on my iPhone and Laptop (I have Sky 500mbs WIFI) and when I am in the same room as the H60x I get nearly 500mbs So if you want a budget friendly WIFI Mesh, I would recommend this item

Simply not useable.
Really disappointed with this, was hoping for a much better exriance but sadly didn't provide me with what I needed. I wanted to upgrade my gen 1 Google WiFi system with a WiFi6 system as on occasions my system would struggle with some of my WiFi cameras and with casting to devices, I figured this was due to having a large amount of clients on the system (about 80) given I have lots of devices I thought that this seemed a good upgrade especially for the budget price. Sadly though after 3 days I had to remove, set up my Google WiFi again and return from a refund. It was terrible, constantly dropping devices, I would get constant notifications that my cameras were off line, wouldn't connect to my solar battery storage system so couldn't control it as and when I needed too, my hot tub wouldn't connect so couldn't control that either, kids constantly saying what's wrong with the WiFi as their TVs and phones would constantly buffer video content. I'm sure it would be fine for a small household with upto 20 devices but for me with approaching 100 it simply wasn't good enough, my ISP speeds are 1gig, and running a WiFi speed test next to the mesh I would get around 300mbps, not terrible and a tad faster than the 200 I would get through WiFi on my Google system but given all the issues I wouldn't recommend. I will now be looking at either the new Google nest WiFi pro6e system or go down the unifi pathway, either way you get what you pay for so I will have the bite the bullet and spend a few hundred on a system.

Good for basic wifi mesh extension.
-Works great. -Easy to set up. -The range is good. -Only sometimes the router disconnects from the internet. A restart usually fixes it.
