Amazing printer! I love the Wi-Fi feature—it makes printing from anywhere in the house so quick and convenient. Setup was easy, the print quality is great, and it’s exactly what I needed. Very happy with this purchase!

I love it. No app to install, but there was an optional one that probably makes it even easier to setup. Anyway, you can just give it WiFi credentials with the buttons/menu interface, and then it just works with air print perfectly. The print quality looks good too! I almost wish I splurged on a color one.

I print from my laptop, never my mobile device. Setup for this printer is via a QR code, so after spending more than an hour going through the registration/setup process, I was only able to use the printer via my phone. Useless to me. At the very end of setup, there was a message to go to the Brother website to setup to print from my computer. Geez!!! Just show the computer setup option without having to scan the QR code and wasting time setting up on a device I never print from. I then spent another hour+ setting up for my laptop. Before printing, I clicked the Brother Print&Scan icon to register my printer. It didn't recognize the password on the back of the machine and it didn't recognize the password I'd assigned from the mobile set up. Brother wanted me to enter the serial # on the back of the printer. I'm old. My eyesight isn't great and after 4 attempts to enter the serial #, which BTW, cannot be displayed as you input it, there was no way to confirm if I'd made a mistake keying the # or if it was because I couldn't tell if the last digit of the serial # was a zero, letter O or a Q, and besides, by that time I was too tired and too irritated to continue because I'd already spent more than 3 hours unboxing and setting up. Setting up this printer was ALMOST as bad as getting a new computer and trying to figure out all the settings. Next, I set up the dashboard. After entering all the required info, I received a message saying that processing dashboard setup would take an hour, please be patient. OK, it was 10pm. I was not in a good mood. I tried to turn off the printer by pressing the power button. The machine stayed on even after multiple attempts. I said the F word and unplugged the printer. (The following day, there was enough light to read the display and I noticed a "Shutting Down" message after pressing the power button, so after waiting patiently, the machine did finally shut down.) At 7:54am the following morning I received an email saying my dashboard was available! Whoo Hoo! - only 10 hours later, and only to find out that the "dashboard" was designed to sell me products, not to configure print options as I'd expected. I spent the next 7 hours procrastinating weather or not I had the sanity and/or energy to actually test the printer. I finally sucked up and tested the printer, which worked like a charm and gave me decent quality albeit somewhat dark prints. As an artist who uses B&W photocopies in my collage work (the main reason I bought the printer), I did appreciate that the copies are more like old school photocopies that lack the shiny quality so often part of photocopies from Staples, etc. nowadays. The matte prints are easier to hand color with colored pencil or watercolor. And, MOSTLY, I also appreciate that I can now print from home instead of having to go to Staples every time I get a collage inspiration. Would I recommend this printer? No. Setup is definitely unnecessarily complicated - even for a 71yo former software analyst. The footprint is bigger than I expected, and because I'll only be using it intermittently and the manufacturer tells me not to keep it plugged in when not in use, I will probably find it a hassle to crawl under my desk to plug and unplug it every time I want to use it. Edit: I discovered that I can make lighter prints from MS Word by selecting "Printer Properties" then selecting "Advanced Printing Options" and clicking "Toner Save Mode". The lighter prints are exactly what I was hoping for and I'm happy to conserve toner to extend the toner cartridge life. I've run an extension cord to make plugging and unplugging the machine relatively easy. Patience has taught me that when the machine is in "Deep Sleep" mode (which happens within seconds of printing), I have to press the power button then wait for the machine to enter "Sleep" mode. Once the machine is in "Sleep" mode, I can finally press the power button again to shut down the machine. Edit #2: Changed rating from 3 stars to 1 star. The annoying things I've discovered about this printer after using it for a couple of weeks are #1 despite selecting collate from my print options, machine always prints the last page first so I have to hand collate everything AND #2 I have repeatedly selected toner save mode and pressed the default button within documents AND I've also set toner save mode from my default new document, AND I've tried to set toner save mode from the Brother icon, but the machine will not set toner save mode as a default - meaning I have to select toner save mode from the advanced settings EVERY time I print a document!

Some of you considering this printer might be wondering how difficult it is to set up and connect. This is especially true if you are considering it as a gift, or if you just want a simple setup experience so you can get your printer going fast and get on with your workday. This review is limited only to initial set up and first use (I haven't owned this long enough to provide feedback on reliability, ink toner capacity, or similar long-term characteristics). Almost all printers are not very intuitive or easy to set up initially, so I'm comparing this printer with other printers that I've set up. No set up is perfect, but this printer is certainly above average. I set up my HL-L2405W printer using Win11 and chose to use a WiFi setup, which is what the majority of users will likely do. The printer also comes with a LAN cable that plugs into your computer's USB. I like having this option in case there are any future issues with connectivity. To set up the printer using WiFi you must first make sure the printer itself is connected to your router. Whether you're doing this for your home office on your home router, or at work using a workplace router, the process is the same: The printer takes only 10 minutes to completely unbox, setup, and power on using the convenient quick start guide. The quick start guide is pretty good at getting you powered up and going. The only thing that confused me a bit was a green tab on the toner cartridge. There's a diagram showing the green tab moving back and forth and it almost appears like you are supposed to remove the green tab. Do not remove the green tab, just slide it over and back one time to get the toner "primed" and then leave it alone. The quick start guide instructs the user to input your WiFi network name and password. It takes a while to enter in all the numbers and letters to do this, but it's straightforward. A couple of times I wasn't sure what to do and had to back out on the menu and then go back in before I could find the next step/screen. It took about 10 to 12 minutes to get the printer connected to my home's WiFi. Then I went into Windows 11 and simply opened the Settings/Bluetooth & devices/Printers & Scanners screen. Click on "Add device" and your new Brother printer will show up. Click on it and it will automatically start downloading whatever drivers/software is needed (less than 30 seconds). Total time from unboxing to printing the first page was less than 30 minutes, and for many people it will likely be even faster (I tend to go slowly and methodically). When I went to print a test page, I got an error screen. You may or may not get that too. Simply close the screen and try to print again. For whatever reason when I tried to print again everything worked great. The printer will eventually "fall asleep" but if you send something to it for printing, it automatically "wakes up" and does the job. Printing is not necessarily quiet, but also not noisy. Pretty much average noise level. It takes up a bit of desk space, but I'd rather give up desk space and have a more "substantial" printer than the space-saving compact printers that can be more difficult to setup and maintain. This may have only been a 4-star stetup, but compared to other printers it's a solid 5. I love, love, love that it didn't force me to opt out from or download a bunch of software that I don't want/need. No terms & conditions to sign off on, no "agreements" to acknowledge, no bloatware asking for your email or credit card information, no auto-installing apps. None of that. This is the cleanest install I've ever seen from any printer, period. That is also what makes this a 5-star experience.

I needed a printer for my home, and I didn't need a color printer. The printer itself works fine-finally. But the printer lost a star because it was difficult to set up the WiFi connection. I have set up my Apple Ecosystem, a Kliptsh sound system with an Onkyo receiver to sync up with a Sony TV and synced up my iPhone with any number of rental cars, so not an idiot. I followed the prompts from their app but never could connect the printer to the WIFI. I then headed over to YouTube and found an instruction video with 250,000 views from others who have despaired trying to follow Brothers instructions. I had to unplug the printer and the router, wait 15 minutes, plug them back in and then turn around three times while burning sage. Then followed the prompts on the printer which was a lot of ups and down arrows, answering Y or N, and then inputting my long WIFI password based on all of the directions from the YouTuber . Printer and WIFI finally connected - took me about 2 hours from the time I started.

4/17/25 Update: After a few months of use, the printer went into Deep Sleep and when it came out, my EERO 6 had blown it away. After several tries to reconnect it, I reset EERO power and was then able to re-connect to it. I then contacted Brother support and found that (A) Deep Sleep can not be disabled. Tech also sent me a link on "using dual band and Mesh networks". Found that (B) Brother doesn't do 5gHz AT ALL. (C) suggests that you use only SSID's that are 2.4 gHz ONLY. (D) They also say in the note that they "have no way of stabilizing their (apparently all Brother devices) wireless connection with EERO routers" and recommend using another. brand. BUMMER...My fiber service supplies only EERO's. I was on its duel band login but I had them set up a second login that is 2.4gHz ONLY. If this happens again, I will reconnect to that one. If that doesn't work reliably, there are cheap portable devices that will log into EERO's WIFI and then set up their own WIFI network (as a totally different login) I can connect the Brother to. Maybe that will work. Got a LOT OF PAPERWORK with this printer. Cards about phone apps etc. 3 different warranty sheets. I’ve set up a lot of printers over the years so I had faith that if I could connect it to my WIFI network I’d be done. The quick connect instructions (down loading the software as shown to the PC) had several options. The all wireless approach asked for a user and password. I tried several and couldn’t get it to work. My second try was using a USB cable. That worked great. The printer logged onto my WIFI. Green light came on steady. At least for the initial connection, It’s critical that you follow the instructions and RESTART both your computer and the printer. Power them both completely down. Then power up. The printer logged onto my router and when I looked for the printer on my MacBook Air, the printer was there and showing green idle. I also tried “add a printer” and it did so. I deleted the second one. It printed great. My IPhone also found it (both were logged into my wifi) and it printed from my lPhone. My wife’s WIN11 laptop also connected as expected. It’s not clear if this printer uses a chip in the toner cartridge. Some 3rd party toners say they have them. Loaded the Brother Connect app. Looks like it’s an alternative to using the PC & web site to initially install the printer. Would be good If I didn’t have a PC. Updated the printer’s firmware. Registered it and changed the password. It displays the toner level. Seems to be useful in that it accesses my iCloud files and I can print them from the app - all on my iPhone. However, it’s got lots of ads and IMHO is over-complicated to set up. But, today, more and more people have only a smart phone (no PC) so the app takes care of them well. The toner meter shows its full. If it’s correct, it means Brother included a standard toner cartridge, not one with just a little in it like most other printer manufacturers do.

Okay, I KNOW what you're thinking. "Do my kids really need her own printer? There are printers on campus." That's what I thought too. And then I remembered we're talking about college students who will absolutely discover at 11:47 p.m. that something needs to be printed for an 8 a.m. class. BUY. THE. PRINTER. This Brother is compact enough that it doesn't take over her dorm desk, it's wireless (hallelujah), and because it's a laser printer, there's no dealing with ink cartridges that somehow dry up exactly when you desperately need them. It's black and white, which is honestly all she needs for papers, assignments, forms, study guides and all the other very exciting things college is about to throw at them. This is one of those purchases that feels slightly unnecessary right up until the EXACT MOMENT it becomes the most important thing in the room. No walking across campus at night. No discovering the library printer is down. No "MOM, I HAVE TO PRINT SOMETHING" emergency text. The cute dorm gets the pictures. The boring little printer keeps the operation running. Five stars. Buy the printer!!!

Just received this yesterday and today spent about 2 1/2 hours setting up. Most of the set-up time was either my laptop was running slow or the brother set up was slow. Either way it was fairly easy and pretty painless. The only hitch came when trying to connect wireless, and here I tried a few time with the recommended way. Unfortunately after a couple of attempts it would not work, so I had to manually input the information. Once the screen showed it was ready to type the network password with the up down arrows it seemed a bit time consuming but was actually easy. This was the only glitch I had during the whole process. I guess I could have given a four star, but then again it's just how the machine talks to the router. I had read that other people had this same problem so I was prepared for it. Overall the printing speed compared to my old inkjet was fairly quick, which is a given for a laser printer. Happy with the printer as it is fairly decent and at a decent price.

Muy buena, pero gasta mucha tinta por impresión, aunque pongas "draft" en config. Pero imprime excelente y nunca he tenido problema con conexión a mi compu / cel.
