ROG Ally + XG Mobile = Perfect Gaming
If buying used make sure you take into account the serial number will already have been used for the warranty most likely. Otherwise I got one and it's an amazing product I use for my ROG Ally z1 Extreme. I upgraded to this and now use it like a desktop with a 34 inch curved monitor and it's the best gaming I've done in ages! It runs literally anything amd everything with zero issues.

Works as advertised. If you plan to frequently undock your device the process can be annoying
Picked it up for my ROG Ally Z1 Extreme since I've been using it docked as a PC I could take with me. These are hard to find in general so when there was a 4000 series I had to get it. Have only had it for a couple weeks but my thoughts are below. Installation is relatively simple you just need to ensure the connection is SNUG and locks into place. Initial setup the unit would not power on and the RGB fan light didn't illuminate so I was afraid of a bricked unit. But the good old unplug and replug fixed that issue. I do wish the cable to dock your device was a bit longer. Once the device was powered and connected you have to click the XG Mobile icon in the system tray. What's annoying is that the icon FREQUENTLY dissappears. Literally as I am writing this review the icon is missing. Not a problem if you keep your device docked but since I have an ROG Ally, the expectation that I would frequently take the device with me on the go is there. I have not encountered any other issues with the device apart from those mentioned in this review. The fan ramps up when gaming but it is not as loud as I was expecting it to be. The sound level is noticable in a quiet environment but not a problem if you play audio through speakers or use headphones. Haven't tried super intense games but it works very well for what I want to play. Overall if the process of connecting and disconnecting the XG mobile and the cable were a little longer this would be a 5 star review.

Game changer that CHANGES THE GAME!
I don’t write a ton of reviews but I had to share this with my fellow gamers! Diehard PlayStation/COD-BO6 fan. Looking for a mobile solution to play on the road I got a ROG Flow Z13 (2021) only to find out it could not quite hang with the graphics. Found this USED XG Mobile for $500 off and took what I knew was a big risk, but hoped I could return to Amazon if defective. It arrived and BOOM. Perfection. The screen on my Z13 is gorgeous after a few clicks. Plug/update/play and be amazed. There is actual blur of scenery in the distance as you start to stare down your scope for a shot. Playing Black Ops now is like watching a movie at the theater. And my game has improved! Put it up on the Samsung 55” and I am telling you it beats out my PS5! Picture is gorgeous, no lag/snap movements and with the clarity so many long shots!!! I am seriously considering moving completely to gaming off the Z13 with this 4090 (laptop) cranking! Amazing I feel like I’ve won the lottery here. Now back to gaming ;-)! Oh yea Forza Horizons wow - I’ll let you be surprised by that one yourself, it is a treat!

Nothing but issues
Had it for about two weeks. Was super excited and worked decent for a day or two without issues. Benchmarks were great and all happy. Spent my last week and a half trying to get the damn thing to work now. Keeps making my x13 go to Blue Screen of death. With constant reboot s. Now, display port isn’t working . But it worked great for a week. Every time I try to update nvidia driver it goes to BSOD. Other issue is you are supposed to got to your windows tray and clock the xg mobile icon to disconnect. Damn icon doesn’t work. I really love my flow x13 but want more power at home. But this not working may be the deal breakers.

Must have for asus rog ally owners.
I know nothing about the flow products that use this as well, but its so much fun on the rog ally. The perfect handheld hybrid pc now. Comes equipped with raw power. Most external gpu only take advantage of about 70% of the gpu but with asus you get about 90% with little to no bottleneck. So easy to set up, make sure the ally is up to date then plug the xg up and you have an update that will make you restart and away you go. Anything of this nature is no expensive so you are not saving much money depending on your needs. Becuase to take full advantage you will need a monitor or tv that takes advantage of all that power. The gpu can get load but it stays relatively cool. It's alot cooler than my asus zephyrus g14 ryzen 9 3060 I will tell you that. The Cord is short and you have to bend it a little, I set the gpu up a little higher so I don't have to bend it at the connector end of either poi t of the cable to pro long it. The cable is thick so I trust it. Gives me just enough ports to plug everything in as I like wires and prefer to have as little lag as possible. With the current discount it's so worth it. No longer in production so if you had it on your mind I say do it but I'm an enabler 😁. The stand on the gpu is surprisingly sturdy and can hold up with all my cable tugging on it every way. Still playing with it but first couple hrs of gaming are amazing.

asus quality
I have a Flow X13 and XG Mobile 2021 that I bought in 2021. I've had infrequent power issues with that combo. Sometimes a usb port would lose power momentarily, or plugging in an ethernet cable would cause a reboot. It was enough of a problem to request a RMA but not enough to actually send them in for a 2wk+ repair. Over time, I've just coped with not relying on ethernet, and the usb issues didn't happen much at all. When the XG Mobile 2023 came out, I kept eyeballing it. Either I got a slightly defective old one, or maybe this new version will fix the issues I had? It has a 4090, which I don't really need, the 3080 in the old version did plenty fine for me. Finally this year, I decided to try it out since I saw it on sale on amazon for $100 less. Unfortunately, I still have power issues. I've had more usb power failures, and a bluescreen at least once a day. Ran through ASUS support again who still don't seem to have a specific troubleshooting guide for the XG Mobile. All of the steps were just checking drivers on the laptop. They even had me wipe the drive and start over. I was skeptical about that one, but I tried it anyway. Didn't bluescreen after that, but I had random reboots and the windows event viewer noted a few crashes. I ran some of my own diagnostics on the side since asus' diagnostics all came back healthy. The Flow X13 appears to be fine, memory and ssd tests were just fine. When I hook up my XG Mobile 2021 to it, it's back to its normal if imperfect behavior. In the end, ASUS offered to RMA but since I'm still in amazon's return window, I opted to do a return. Amazon's return process required me to chat with a rep, but they got it squared away quick. I'm just going to continue on with my 2021 XG mobile and look out for a better laptop/egpu combo in the future. With oculink and TB5 options from other vendors on the horizon, I probably won't go with ASUS again.

Great performance boost
High end performance when docked. Able to use my SD card again (broken on rog ally). Ram intensive games will still need lower settings. Everything I play runs great on it so far besides oblivion remaster.

It's a beast
Great card, a bit over priced though. Plays everything in max settings. My only complaint is setting it up, the instructions are not very clear and you have to make sure armoury crate is updated as well and make sure the onboard graphics is setup a certain way. I would think asus could have made this thing plug and play with how much the whole setup costs.
