And it is built like..
[See my update below] It works! And it is built like...like...like I don't know what, you don't get really well made stuff any more. A comparison is impossible. There are NO plastic load-bearing parts. It is all metal except for the roller. It is a joy just to hold. My kids are already squabbling over who gets it when I die. UPDATE: 10 years later... I've had that much service out of it, and it was still going strong till this morning. It failed, and I now recognize what some of the one-star reviewers have said. The handle turrns but the cutter doesn't. Now that I've taken it apart I have found the cutter is (supposed to be) attached to the spindle with three spot welds. Except they're incompatible materials. There is melted metal but no weld. It is amazing that just being jammed together the spindle and cutter worked this long. It is a fundamental design flaw. The spindle needs splines. I wince when I read my cheerful gush about "no plastic load-bearing parts". It turns out to have a worse defect.

Bean shredder
Its a modern interpretation of the old fashioned ones - and works quite well but is not as robust as the one my granny had!! I'm happy with it though.

Works a treat
I've purchased several different types of runner bean slicer (frencher). The slicer is absolutely brilliant and works well on all thickness of runner beans. I find the best way to use the frencher is put a small wooden stool on the counter top and put the frencher on the seat pad and put a container underneath to catch the slices.

Haven’t used it as yet as beans are out of season, well made but there is a problem with the work top attachment it should be at least two centimetres bigger to fit a kitchen work top

Excellent
I bought this for my wife as we grow our own beans and she absolutely loves it. The only downfall is that it’s made for American worktops and is too small for ours so we have had to use a glass table to attach it to. It is so good she loves just winding the beans through and it takes minutes as opposed to longer with the old fashioned pull through slicers. Definitely worth buying and adapting the fix it has made her life so much easier and no breakages in the beans! We love it 👍

Great Kitchen Tool.
Excellent runner bean slicer, easy to use. Touch of a problem attaching it to the kitchen counter top, but with a bit of DIY skills all sorted.

product update
so I've had this a year now and brought it out to do my beans that are just cropping and it no longer works, it will slice about 1-2cm then the handle just goes around and the blades stop turning, I also noticed that a crack has appeared in the casing, and it's metal! so its turned out to be a waste of money not pleased at all.

It works but not easy
Yes it works but keeps moving and you end up having to cut the shredded bean pieces to a shorter length. I found difficulty finding something suitable to fix it to. No good on granite counter.
