While they worked great for that they are far more practical than just being cute. We've used them on cool mornings when its wet out or cold when out camping and they keep him warm and dry. Fit wise they do seem to run long, very long. so our kiddo (79% in height at the doctor) we had to cuff the bottom 3" of them so he wasn't walking/tripping on them.
