This an amazing value. Easily the best value for a bulk amount of willow charcoal. ICompared to Blick or other art stores, the quality of these sticks are indistinguishable. I will only be purchasing these to restock our drawing classroom from now on.

They produce a very black line. When one draws with light lines it’s easy to erase but impossible to erase once pressure is applied to get a strong line. I will use them because it’s too many of them but I think I will go back to a vine charcoal afterwards. I used it with cannon drawing and Ingres paper. Superb for those smoky soft lines. They might break easily so a softer touch is recommended. They come in various thickness and size and are perfect for my art projects.

So… apparently math is optional now. The photo shows two containers, my mailbox delivered one, and my soul delivered a sigh. On the bright side, the single container that did arrive is sturdy enough to survive an art student’s emotional breakdown and hold charcoal without turning my entire desk into a crime scene. The willow sticks themselves? Great. Smooth, dark, perfect for sketching dramatic shadows or the face you made when you realized you only got one container. Five stars for the charcoal. Minus 1 star for the photo trickery.
