EA Sports always seemed to find ways to advance their way of gameplay, to offer more to do. FIFA 13 continues legacy of this development into what we now see today. Great work, thanks.

The closest yet to real-life football
After buying FIFA on release day, I wanted to give it a week to write my review. After through playing of every game-mode, this is the conclusion I have come to. Gameplay: The controversial First-Touch is a great addition to the game, if sometimes over-powered with lower league teams. It really gives a realistic feel of playing football, as sprinting onto the ball with Theo Walcott will make it immensely difficult to take the ball easily. On the other hand, holding LT gives the FIFA Street-esque dribbling, where your player will make small, controlled touches to take on a defender at close quarters. The Impact Engine has been toned down well, although the Push/Pull function ends with a booking 9.5 times out of 10. Passing build-up play works much better this year, giving a more realistic football experience. Gamemodes: Ultimate Team has lost the single game mode, which is a shame but the seasons is a good idea (albeit with awful matchmaking). Head to Head is the same as it was in 12, only with the handy feature of the game saving squads when you pick your team. Career is vastly improved (even with the dodgy transfers - see Mascherano to United). I've yet to try International Management, but I can't wait to give it a go! Pro Clubs is improved, and is still my favourite gamemode. The seasons feature gives a much more long-lasting and satisfying experience, although only having cup windows is a bit annoying. Skill Games are a great addition, even though they aren't too difficult to complete. The leaderboard feature gives it longevity, and most are fun enough to come back to to hone your skills. Other Features: The EASFC catalogue is a great idea, especially with the 10,000 free credits. The only downside is that if the EASFC servers go down as they did today, your unlocked celebrations and boosts don't work. Matchday is a good idea, although I don't have much interest in playing Kick-Off matches after the first day. In other news, the servers are still poor and grass is green. Overall: The biggest fault of this game is EA, with the poor servers and need to fiddle. The game itself is fantastic though, and has room to improve. Bring on FIFA 14!

AMAZON DELIVERY FAIL REDEEMED!
i paid extra cash for this game to be delivered on the day of the release and amazon have failed. this is the last mistake amazon will make for me. if you have experienced the same problem i suggest you do as i have- DEMAND THE POSTAGE BE REFUNDED. IF THEY FAIL TO DO THIS DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT. there is nothing on amazon that cannot be bought anywhere else. the game itself plays quite well (my brother got his from tescos for £39 at midnight), it feels very fluid and for the 1st time in like 3 years EA have actually overhauled the pro club system, lets just hope they don't nerf (make weaker)the pro teams like they did last year. EA can be pretty stupid sometimes. EDIT: since i wrote this review AMAZON have refunded the money that i paid for a release day delivery. since then i have had time to read the comments left and i acknowledge that the rant above is not a review. FIFA13 is quite the football game that now thanks to server hosting instead of console hosting has eliminated modding and boosting! this is a step that should have been taken along time ago but it's here and the playing field is level for all online modes. the career mode now is far more detailed and offers many more options for a pro career. the manger mode also offers more options than previous versions. the game handles quite differently from 12, the first touch system is almost 50/50 depending on your positioning. Tactical defending is still present but is no longer as unforgiving as it was. the impact engine still occasionally causes players to trip over each other like some sort of slapstick comedy but it's something that FIFA had needed for a long time before 12. the pro club mode is the reason i play FIFA, it is great to play as part of a team and the pro clubs has almost had the overhaul it needed. the first point is that the old league system is gone and along with it the stupid points system (63pts for a win? -22 for a loss?). replacing it is an individual league system that requires your club to get a certain amount of points to avoid relegation, gain promotion and win a league title. the cup competitions have changed also, now the one cup has been replaced by four different cups unlocked as your progress up the league ladder. there are 10 leagues to progress through which are seperated into 4 tiers, non league, bronze, silver and gold leagues. this new system is fantastic and is what the pro club system needed but it is still the lack of a kit editor that is probably it's only flaw. overall if you like football you will probably have bought this game regardless of this review but if you haven't it is a wise investment and you will get you moneys worth.

Best of its kind.
If you like Fifa then no doubt you will love this. If you like Pro Evo then no doubt you will never go back to it. Improved in ways that you don't even think about. Ultimate team could be sold on it's own. The standard of it is brilliant. It's own season mode, on and offline really adds depth. Packs have got better and playing your mates has got easier. You can get so immersed in this that you forget about life. The other game modes briliant as well. The seasons online was already great before but it seems they have tweaked the difference in divisions enough now for it to feel like you are the underdog when you have been promoted. Season mode better than ever. Transfers are really top quality now, some players really are hard to buy. Gameplay tweaked to be great now. Morale is a huge addition. When you go one nil down you can feel your players get sluggish and lose that edge to their game. Vice-versa when you are winning. Crossing has been sorted out now, you can actually get on the end of them from the wings. Shooting is very saucy, can score some wonder goals when you get into. Too much to cover to be honest Just buy it, if you read up to here why are you hesitating so long? Sort it out and add to basket.

Truly awful online play
I bought this to play online, usually in seasons mode. But the gameplay, as mentioned by others here, is just so frustrating that it's virtually unplayable. The 'first touch' feature, which is supposed to make the game more 'realistic', means your players randomly become incapable of playing football and give the ball away. No reason to it, just totally random. Sometimes the player you are passing to just starts to sprint towards the ball for no reason, even if you're supposed to be in control of that player by then. Of course, due to 'first touch' he is then completely unable to control the ball and it just just bounces of his shins. If not running towards the ball he'll back off from it allowing an opposition player the run in front and get the ball. Nothing you can do about it, just because the you're supposedly in control of the player, you can't stop him doing it. Goalkeepers are completely hopeless, balls roll past them and they stand and watch (computer controlled players do this often also). They make impossible saves from a couple of yards out, but fail to save a mediocre daisy-cutter from 30 yards. Defenders will run back towards balls going out for a goal kick and touch them out on the line for a corner instead. You can't stop them doing it, the game just doesn't let you control the player. The defence AI is truly, truly awful. As others have said, just lob the ball over the defence and your attackers can run on to it, while the defence reacts like zombies. Left-back or right-back will often just go missing, either up field or practically playing centre-back, leaving huge gaps for the opposition to run into. Assisted passing, and even semi-assisted (which is not supposed to control direction), makes totally insane decisions. Passes sometimes go in almost the completely opposite direction to the direction you want it to. A constant problem I find is running down the wing with the ball, you have one player in line with the defence, and another running into the space in front of the defence. You can't pass to the forward player, but there is a clear path to the attacker running in. But the game will almost always ignore you and try to pass to the furthest forward player and give the ball away. 'Through balls' often do the same thing, ignoring your direction on the LS and making stupid passes to players level with the passing player, sometimes even behind. Yes, that's right, a through ball that goes backwards! The ref, terrible in fifa 12, is no better in 13. Blatant fouls go unpunished, with tiny touches resulting in a foul and a booking. In one game I had a player running back towards goal, chasing the ball, followed by an attacker. My player made a 'sliding tackle' in order to nudge the ball back to the goalie. The following attacker fell over the defender on the ground, the ref gave a penalty and sent the defender off! The ref also gets in the way of the ball, and often your players, far more than he should. He often makes no effort to get out of the way. Also, it's surely not difficult to make sure the ref wears different colours to the teams, but often one team can be playing in red with the ref also in red. It's very hard to tell them apart when your in the thick of the action, effectively giving the other team an extra player in some situations. This is basic stuff! The auto-change button often gives control to a completely illogical player, sometimes not even a player on the screen, and often nowhere near the ball. Even with auto-change off except for air-balls (the default setting) the game often changes the player you're in control of in normal play without prompting. Sometimes you're trying to defend and in control of a player near the ball and the game changes to a player further away! It often makes defending impossible. For me this is a big step backwards from fifa12. That was frustrating enough! This might look more realistic with the 'first touch' feature, but really it's just random player stupidity thrown into the mix. No reason to it. Defence AI seems worse than fifa12, attacking AI is improved a little, but with the random direction ignoring of passes or through-balls this doesn't help much (fifa12 also did this, but changing passing assist to semi in fifa12 was more helpful in removing it). Ref AI is just as bad, if in a different way. A big disappointment, if this is the best a football game can be on the current generation of hardware, than lets have the XBox 720 (or whatever it will be called) asap PLEASE! And I haven't even started on the bugs...

GOOD GAME, BUT...
The game itself is fantastic the concept of the different features such as ultimate team and pro clubs is fantastic, I consider myself to be a serious gamer in the likes of call of duty and games like it but I have never played football games such as FIFA. After being told and told and told to get this game I finally decided to get it, I can honestly say that it was a good idea as I love ultimate team and the other features of this game, the game hasn't left my Xbox for over a week now. However, I have found on call of duty I get very angry which is evident when you look at how many controllers I have broken this year and can safely say that FIFA 13 has never made me so angry in my life. I don't know why it makes me like this as I know I am bad at the game to start with, it is probably because I am used to winning on call of duty and to suddenly keep losing is very annoying. So to conclude, the game is very good but do not get it is you get very angry with games very easily because you will...

FIFA 13- THE BEST
Fifa 13 did not dissapoint and big improvements have been made. The graphics are getting better and better. Gameplay feels more realistic with less glitches now and full body control on the ball, there is more fluidity. The Kinect microphone feature is quite nifty, where you can shout out your feelings to the referee. I love the skill games, there so addictive, you could find yourself on them for hours. The matchday feature is great, where latest scores and fixtures are read out. I like it when subbmitting offers for players in the transfer market, it puts the managers signature on each offer sent,to me it makes for a more realistic experience. Finally on career mode they have added a personal scout for the manager, telling you if you have any job offers, with international opportunities as well, which makes it intersting managing your own club at the same time. FIFA 13 is the best so far.

The ugly game!
The base game of FIFA has marginally improved from FIFA 12 but not enough. The first touch idea is a useful one as it requires you to think a little more about how you pass and receive the ball but it doesn't really improve the quality of games a great deal, as the ball physics have remained the same. This is the area that most needed revamping, matches still become scrappy counter attack affairs, simply because the ball can be launched with laser guided precision up field, even clearances out of desperation can create devastating counter attacks, this happens far to often for my liking. Having large amounts of possession and territory should be a good thing and don't get me wrong you can score goals by maintaining possession and territory, but you run the risk of giving your opponent very easy counter attack chances that they didn't have to work for, which totally kills the fun and pride in trying to outplay your opponent. I also have a problem with the way players can chase you all over the pitch for 90 minutes without slowing down, sure an individual will slow down if he's chased you around the pitch but the minute they switch players the previous players stamina regains quickly and he is able to chase you all over again, I have had games where I've maintained 70% possession purposely letting my opponent chase me all over the pitch just to see if they slow down any, if they do it's barely noticeable. Another example of bad ball physics is when after making a tackle the ball bounces away in very predictable patterns, rolling back to your opponent, often creating better positions for them than they had before you tackled them, which often results in conceding a goal. While I commend trying to stop hackers, the decision to make ranking up your virtual pro possible by playing online "drop in" matches only, was a poor one, which punishes everyone for the cheating of a small minority. I have revised my review after playing it for a month from 3 stars down to two stars. Having a midfield in this game is often completely pointless as the best form of attacking is a hoof up field, slowly building your attacks actually hinders you more often than not and as another review on Amazon put it "my tackle means nothing" it really is ugly watching the ball roll back to the opposition over and over again, the ball physics are HORRIBLE. Pros: First touch system Slightly improved impact engine EA sports football club store (when you can manage to connect to it for 5 minutes) Cons: Poor ball physics online virtual pro not as fun, due to lack of options Big mismatches in ultimate team matchmaking Terribly glitchy
