great popcorn maker
Love this popcorn maker. I purchased the popcorn kit 6oz and it worked very well. no adjusting the temp just turn it on. you are able to see it pop and smell the aroma in the room. I like it because the cart size popcorn maker is too big for 2 people and very hard to clean. this maker could be cleaned using a soapy rag (do not immerse in water)

It works great!
I tried out a few poppers from Amazon, one being completely broken when it arrived, and the others not popping all kernels properly. This popper gets the job done! All kernels end up popped, nothing gets burnt, and it's pretty easy to clean and use. I will report back if anything happens, such as if it breaks after only a few uses or etc. But so far, I really love it! EDIT: It's been a pretty long time since I wrote this (It's now September 26), and this popper still works great! The quality hasn't changed since I bought it, and I must've used it at least a hundred times now, since my family and I really love popcorn. I'm so glad I bought this. EDIT #2: Wow I forgot I wrote this. It's November 2017 now (more than a year later) and I still use this popper weekly. Still no burnt popcorn and works incredibly well. This was a solid purchase. EDIT #3: My phone notified me this hit 250 helpful hits. Thanks everyone! It's October 2019 now, and I'm still using it. I actually just bought kernels and butter the other day since I was running low. The popcorn maker is still going strong.

Great popcorn with a few caveats
Our faithful OR Presto popper wouldn't turn on one day, so I needed a replacement ASAP. In the meantime, I made a horrible batch of popcorn on the stove. I really did need a new popper fast. It wasn't in stock at Walmart, and Amazon had better pricing anyway. I was going to get an exact replacement, but I always wished that it had an on/off switch instead of having to pull out the cord with the power still on. Then I saw this one, which had the switch and had the same capacity as my old popper, but it was under $30 instead of over $40. It just made sense to give it a try. The first one came, and I instantly got the impression that it was a return. After opening, I found that there were scratches and scuffs on the cover/bowl and the base and the cook plate was rough like there was something off with the coating and had a few scratches. I ordered a replacement, which was much better than the first order. I washed the lid/bowl with soapy water like the manual says to, but for the plate, I used a wet soapy rag and then wiped with a wet rag without soap. After drying, I applied a thin layer of coconut oil and then heated the plate empty for a minute or two just to make sure there wasn't any residue left over. It had no bad smells or smoking during that process. I then made my first batch with 3/4 cup of kernels and 3 TBLS of oil. The kernel stirrer was turning, but it was too high to actually come in contact with the kernels. I just gently bent it with my hands until it was properly stirring. After popping, I chose to transfer to a separate bowl while dusting with buttery popcorn salt. There were only 5 or so unopened kernels and no burnt taste or sogginess. I honestly feel like the popcorn came out better than the popper that I replaced.

Love this!
I recently got an electric popcorn maker, and it has completely changed my snacking game! My microwave broke down, and I suddenly realized that the only thing I ever made in there was popcorn. I couldn't imagine living without it, so I decided to invest in this popcorn maker, and I’m so glad I did! This electric popcorn maker makes fresh popcorn that is absolutely delicious. It’s super easy to use—just add the kernels, turn it on, and within minutes, you have a big bowl of fluffy popcorn ready to enjoy. Cleanup is a breeze, too! The parts are easy to wash, and I love that I don’t have to deal with any leftover microwave mess. If you're a popcorn lover like me, this electric popcorn maker is a must-have. It’s quick, easy, and makes the perfect snack every time. I can’t recommend it enough!

Why can't someone make a good popcorn popper?
I've bought most of the self-stirring popcorn poppers like this that are available. They all suck for at least one reason. Here are the reasons the Nostalgia popper sucks. 1) First, the plastic dome/bowl does not look like the picture. It's more... egg shaped now. NBD right? Except the tapering up the top keeps popcorn from actually going into the top part of the bowl, leaving empty space up top. 2) Nothing is done to keep kernels or small pieces of popcorn from going under the heating plate and to the heating element area. Kernels down there will pop. This means every time you'll have to get a knife or something to get popcorn out of the bottom before using it again, or you'll set off your smoke alarms and get the pleasant smell of burning popcorn. It's awful. (This is a universal problem for poppers with removable cooking surfaces.) 3) The side handles are poorly designed. You can't pick up the entire device, because the handles are only on the removable cooking surface. (The WestBend Stir Crazy, for example, is built better so you can pick up the entire unit). 4) The heating element is 750 watts, which isn't very "high speed". But this isn't a big complaint, it's just a bit slower than others I've had (which were typically 1000-1500 watts). I will say one good thing about this over the WestBend: the heating element actually stays on while popping. The WestBend for some reason toggles on/off which leads to slow popping and lots of unpopped kernels.

Call me converted (from Stir Crazy) - Kudos!
Long-time [and now former] West Bend Stir Crazy user, my recent experience with [and return of] new unit of theirs made me try this appliance with some skepticism... call me converted. The manufacturer has designed a product that works well, looks good, has fairly robust bowl, good instructions, and with some nice touches: - There's a silicone-like seal between cooking surface and outer edge of popper. Keeps oil and condensation out of bottom of unit. Should prevent oil dripping out of bottom over time. [And hey, this is an electric appliance, so no immersion in water or dishwasher, folks... wipe only!]. - There's an on-off switch, which is a nice safety feature, as you can plug/unplug unit without arcs/sparks/excitement. Safe to leave plugged in on counter if you wish. - Built-in cord storage on bottom, with a space for the male plug. A bit fiddly to use at first, am now used to it and easily done. - Smaller footprint than Stir Crazy - diameter of unit is less [it IS taller] so less shelf/counter/storage space - especially considering cord storage. - Popping process seems to take a bit longer, but better heating of corn may be what contributes to next point. - Good popping efficiency. We use Orville - level 2/3 cup of popcorn fills bowl to point of lifting it during popping - maybe 10 kernels unpopped. One point: when new, unit is still "outgassing" so a plasticky aroma is there when you lift cover. Odor does not transfer to popcorn, and it seems storing unit with cover cracked [for ventilation] for a while, in addition to actually using unit, solves that issue. Only thing I am not decided on is stirring rod - unit comes with a hard-to-describe rod that concentrates on lifting the popped corn off of the cooking surface, vs. the West Bend straight rod that stirs kernels more... Am alternating between manufacturer original and a slightly modified Stir Crazy straight rod... a larger sample of popcorn batches is required <burp> :-) before I declare which rod (original or modified) is my favorite. Overall, based on experience to date, highly recommended.

Nostalgic for StirCrazy
The 'Nostalgia SP660SS' popcorn popper is to the Original StirCrazy popcorn popper as 'Spaghetti'Os' is to actual spaghetti. OK if you're not expecting anything like the Real Thing. Quirks & Peculiarities & What to Do About Them... 1. Generally flimsy construction. Not much you can do here other than Compensate. A. Handle All parts with Gentle Firmness, particularly the center post, stirring rod & center knob assembly which is quite wobbly. B. Stirring rod not centered on post &/or of uneven lengths ( one end too long for space ). If you find that one end of the rod is scraping the inner edge enough to abrade the non-stick surface, using power tools Shorten & Round-Off Smooth the excess length. I used a Fordham flex-shaft tool for this. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, you probably have a friend who's into some kind of metal work who can help you out. (hint: Jewelry Makers are usually experienced & well equipped for such endeavors & don't forget about your friendly local Model Railroader or Hobbyist.) 2. User Misinformation Manual A. 'How to Operate' instructions start with the usual "Clean by Wiping With a Soft Cloth Before First Use" which are typically inadequate. I'm sure you were already prepared to actually clean it with dish suds & let dry. If not - Do It. Two or three times if you want. B. Good To Go? NOT YET....WAY NOT YET. BEFORE POPPING ANY CORN YOU INTEND TO EAT you'll need to hop in the car & go buy a couple of bags of the cheapest popcorn & store brand oil you can get. WHY??? you ask. Because it takes at least 10+ uses to get rid of the Smell & Taste of Hot Plastic & Motor Oil (as in Machine Motor Oil). By popping up a batch or two a day of junk popcorn for a week 'n' a half or so you'll be rewarded with a popper that finally makes good popcorn & during this 'Break-in' time the neighborhood birds will love you. (While you find it desirable to do this, or something like it, with pretty much all new poppers, this one took quite a lot more repetitions than usual.) C. LESS IS MORE !!! Please start out with a small amount of whatever popping corn you like using as different brands have different qualities of 'Poppiness'. My Experience: Using the Measures provided, with 'Orville Redenbacher' 'Original' two(2) measures starts pushing the bowl up off of the popper base, the bottom layer gets crushed & immobilized against the heated 'popping surface' which then scorches it before overflowing the bowl as the base is removed. No Big Deal - Easy Fix - USE LESS Corn (1/3 cup instead if 1/2 cup). The oil measurements suggested, however, are completely off for any type of oil. It seemed like a lot of oil when reading their instructions but tried their quantities first since oils aren't subject to the high variability if volume change that the kernels are. Big Mistake! The oil was running out of the rim & overflowing from the handles, running down the sides & puddling on the counter top. Turning the whole thing over to remove the base from the bowl summoned the ghost of the Exon/Valdez. There again, USE LESS. All-in-all, the 'Nostalgia SP660SS' ultimately does what it's intended to do. It works & hasn't fallen apart yet although it threatens to do so at any moment. Clearly, more effort went into Image Design & Packaging than the application of basic principals of functional design or integrity of manufacture. I bought my Good Ol' 'StirCrazy Popcorn Popper' for $2 at a flea market in 1965+/- as a student. It quickly became my desktop 'Kitchen-in-a-Bowl' & eventually a world traveler. After 40+ years of faithful companionship, 'Ol' Stir' went AWOL during the move to my current home. In the 9 years since, this is the 4th 'replacement' & this is the last time.

Best on market
Had previous model from same company. It was great but after many years wore out tried other brands - just didn’t pop as good or way to wide for the counter. Hunted down this one and it is even an improved design. Absolutely this is the one to get.
