Night After Night: Music from the Movies of M. Night Shyamalan celebrates one of the richest collaborations between a contemporary film director and a composer – an all-new recording of music for M. Night Shyamalan’s most acclaimed films by the Emmy®- and Grammy®-winning composer and nine-time Oscar® nominee James Newton Howard. The Sony Classical album will be released on October 20, 2023. Included on Night After Night are highlights from Howard’s haunting scores that became part of the identity of eight of Shyamalan’s eerie, mind-bending thrillers – The Sixth Sense (1999), Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002), The Village (2004), Lady in the Water (2006), The Happening (2008), The Last Airbender (2010) and After Earth (2013). For this album, James Newton Howard created eight suites that are piano centric and include new and original material. Featured soloists are violinist Hilary Hahn, cellist Maya Beiser and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Review: Really terrific album - I am super picky about modern orchestral works. This one delivers. I first heard it on a streaming service but, I wanted a copy of my own. The CD is excellent. I played it on a new Yamaha amp with KEF speakers and Emotiva sub. I also played it on some $10 KLH speakers, a 1990s JVC receiver ($0) and a 2000s JVC CD player ($25) with a 2000s BA sub in my office. Terrific performances and quality. But, alas, like most CDs nowadays, the jewel cases are very thin and cheap. Not like the cases from the 1980s and 90s and even cases into the 2000s. Get ready to have to replace this case when you drop it by accident. If I was an artist, I would insist on seeing case options and pick the best quality one. Not cardboard type. Jewel case is good but, old school quality. Pick a case with the solid color spindle section. The clear kind end up not working after a few years as the tines on the grabber all break! Then the CD falls out and, who knows if it is playable after that. But, great recording. Review: Fantastic… - James Newton Howard re-explores some of his best work from the Shyamalan era… beautiful, emotional renditions of memorable tracks, but also revisited and expanded compositions, further exploring the emotion and character of each world… Hilary Hahn is back on Violin for The Village tracks, and the rest of the orchestra is deliciously haunting and beautiful… an easy purchase for M Night Fans, James Newton Howard Fans, and film score fans in general (and if you’re a fan of all 3, you are the exact target audience for this album)… ♥️ 💿 🎶

Absolutely perfect
I didn't know what to expect when I first heard about this. I knew the tracks would be re-recorded cues from JNH's collaboration with Shyamalan, but I was not prepared for just how lush and gorgeous these new arrangements of his music would sound. I'm a long-time fan of Howard's music, especially his collaboration with Night... but this record gives us a new way to enjoy his music that doesn't make us feel like we're just listening to the same music. He makes it feel new and fresh again.

Bone-chillingly good
Listened with some wired Edifier speakers, sounds like you’re standing in the middle of the orchestra. Brought me to tears. The Village is still one of my favorite films of all time, still a cinematic masterpiece to this day.

Beautifully Haunting
M. Night Shyamalan and James Newton Howard has always had a good collaboration. Its as if the score is a character within the movie. This is a good CD collection of music from M. Nights movies. 21 tracks from 9 films.

I enjoy original soundtracks (OST) and own many OST albums. I have owned several of Isham's albums. Just didn't enjoy this.

Misty Magic
I started collecting film music in 1994. I was seven years old when The Lion King came out and my wonderful journey into the film music world began. I discovered James Newton Howard in 2004 with “The Village”. I still have not watched the movie, but the music remains in my heart and that soundtrack still remains among my top 10. After listening to "Blood Diamond" in 2006, Mr. Howard became one of my top five composers together with Danny Elfman, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and the late James Horner. While Hans Zimmer deviated from his lush, imposing melodies (opting more towards electronic synthesisers and atmospheric tones), Mr. Howard has remained within the branches that defined his early career. I would better describe his style as a mist that descends and gently touches everything around you, creating a magical aura that penetrates your heart. It is difficult not to pause what you are doing and get absorbed by Track 3 ("Signs - The Hand Of Fate"), Track 4 (“The Village - Morning”), Track 6 (“The Village - Ivy Saves Lucius”), Track 12 (“Lady In The Water - Story”), and Track 16 (“The Last Airbender”). These are just some examples from this beautiful album (there are more, just take a listen). I am so glad that I discovered this album. At the same time, I am very thankful that Mr. Howard and the wonderful musicians involved in this venture decided to do this. This album is a unique jewel that any film music or James Newton Howard fan will appreciate. The introspective tone and elegant variations from several well-known themes is a delight to listen to.

A sublime collection of music by James Newton-Howard.
This was a spec purchase, although I have a number of James Newton-Howard soundtracks in my collection. The composer has put together a number of musical suites from his work with M. Night Shyamalan and arranged them for a mainly string orchestra. And the outcome is ....magical. A beautiful flow of wonderful music aided by a spectacular recording. An easy five stars in my opinion.

Recopilación para el recuerdo
Excelente recopilación de bandas sonoras de James Newton Howard. Me gusta mucho este compositor, sobre todo las que tiene que ver con las películas de Night Shyamalan, aunque no sea muy reconocido.
