Small AC Generator Service Manual, 3rd Edition

This seems to be a bible of info for small AC generators for the time period involved-- 80s and 90s. About an inch thick and quite detailed as to both motor and electrical issues for the many brands and models covered.

In the Generac section there are errors. For the G1600/ G2600 on how to remagnetis the field assy you are told to place the battery ground on the generator frame. This will not work because the doide will block the current of the battery from the coil of the field wiring. (6A, 600V THAT IS SAID & SHOWN TO BE CONNECTED TO THE NEGATIVE BRUSH & GROUND) On my G1600 the diode is built into the black bridge rectifer module on the end of the generator and is not a seperate part. ( I wasted a lot of time looking for this diode & purchased two replacement rectifies modules @ a cost of more then $50) To remagnetis the feild assy you have to place the battery ground on the negitive terminal brush or on the negative terminal of the bridge rectifier module to bypass the diode allowing the current to flow throught the field coil assy to remagnetis the field assy. You still touch the positive battery end to the positive brush until you see your generator (green) light come on. This worked for me.

This items was well worthy so I kept it and will use it for future reference, future reference, future reference. Thanks

I am well satisfied with this manual. It will help me greatly in troubleshooting a problem with a generator that I am about to work on.

Just right for the older generators

I bought this while working on an older model generator. The company whose name was on the generator (Goodall) was not at all helpful but I discovered on the internet that the unit was actually manufactured by Pincor. The exact model I have was not shown in this book, but there were enough similar units shown that I was able to understand how to fix my problem. The book covered a lot of different models, and most important covers the features that are different on each model. The only complaint is that the models don't seem to be in any sort of logical order, so it takes a bit of searching to find the information, but so far, everything I have tried to find is in there. This book was definitely worth the price. It would have cost a lot more than this to take the generator to a shop for repair.

bought this for a pal he has started repairing generators ,and lawn mowers from scrapyards and he is doing very well ,selling parts and repairing them

In general a very good book.However not every make of generator is covered. However it is still worth buying. Has very useful specific and general informaion

This volume has provided all the information I needed to repair two of my generators, specifically regarding parts used in the control circuits. If you don't need all the technical data, this provides general information of most generators.

Not cheap but a lot of information. I liked the section on engines which apply to lots of other machines.
