    Pretty Good Book

*by A***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 23, 2023*

I've liked the whole series, this book being the last. It is a little drawn out and it's not my favorite in the series but still good. Great for teens and young adults.

    Why Julie?!

*by J***. on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 17, 2014*

Julie Kagawa has done it again!! The Iron Traitor was a freaking incredible read that totally blows you out of the water! Seriously, I am shaking with emotions and I cannot even begin to describe them! While it's been a year too long since I read The Lost Prince, only a week has passed since its events. And things aren't going too good for Ethan. The word on the street is that he kidnapped Kenzie and took her to New York. Not only are teachers and students giving him looks and trouble, but now Kenzie's dad is stepping into the picture and forbidding him to see Kenzie. Like that's really going to happen! The big issues in this one are that Keirran is missing, Meghan comes to Ethan wanting to know if he knows where he's at and he doesn't. Then Annwyln comes to Ethan and is practically dying...or fading away. If she doesn't get back to Faery soon, she will be gone forever. So Ethan sets out to help her find Keirran so that they can try to find a way to save her from totally disappearing.Kenzie tags along as well, much to Ethan's disappointment. His overprotecting, overbearing self, wants Kenzie to stay as far away from everything faery as possible, but Ethan has yet to really learn how stubborn and determined Kenzie can be. She will do what she wants when she wants and I gotta say, I love that about her. Ethan's icy demeanor and sometimes hostility do nothing to deter her from her goals. And I think that's what makes them perfect for one another. I have to admit, that I was peeved with Ethan for his overprotective streak. The problems that caused between the two so early in their relationship had me worried. But Julie never disappoints, as the two somehow manage to work together anyway, I guess because it goes back to their stubbornness. They team up with Keirran in order to save Annwyln's life by doing a favor the Summer Queen. Which just so happens to take them to Tir Na Nog and create a bit of chaos.Old faces return once again! I was ecstatic to see Grimalkin and Puck return! Meghan made a brief early appearance and yes even Ash! I gotta say I totally love Grimalkin and Puck! Those two are a riot! Grimalkin just has that attitude that is too funny! I totally hear his voice when I read his lines!I gotta say that I am always tickled with the romance between Kenzie and Ethan. Ethan still shocks with me by how much he's grown, but still, I love the guy! A little thickheaded at times, but aren't most guys? Kenzie definitely has her hands full but she knows how to handle her tough guy!The pacing in this one was perfect! I'll admit I kept wondering when we'd get to something, but Julie gives us a nice slow simmering that when I look back on it, was awesome! We move from one problem to the next. One quest to complete before another is thrown towards the gang's way. And of course problems occur during each "quest."But what really, really killed me? The ending! OMG! The ending is without a doubt the worst shouting cliffhanger ever! I was just left shocked when I saw the end coming up, I was in denial because I thought there's no way Julie would do that to us...but then authors do get a sick pleasure in leaving us readers hanging! I knew ahead of time there was a dastardly cliffhanger, but still I HAD to read this one and I still highly recommend reading this one as well. Why wait another year to read the two back to back? Us readers are always enduring torture! An overall fantastically fabulously epic read!! I am sooo ready for the finale! Bring it on, Julie!Overall Rating 5/5 stars

Sucks you in right from the start

After his last jaunt into Fairy, Ethan Chase wants absolutely nothing more to do with the fey. He just wants to spend his time with his new girlfriend, Kenzie and try and pretend the other world doesn't exist. But when his nephew, Prince of the Iron Realm, Keirran goes missing, he finds himself dragged back into the thick of things with the fey. Somehow it became up to him and Kenzie to stop Keirran from the unthinkable when it comes to his methods of saving his love. If they fail, Keirran could cause a war that won't only effect the fey realms, but spill over into the human one as well.I could literally spend this entire review talking about how much I loathe Keirran. I wasn't his biggest fan in the previous installment, but in THE IRON TRAITOR he hit an all time low in my book. Sure his actions are supposed to be about sacrificing everything for love, but it sparked more of selfishness in my opinion. As much as I hate to say it, I feel like his parents, Ash and Megan set a really bad example for him. Their love was forbidden, but they found a way, so of course now Keirran won't let anything stand in his way. The big difference however was that Ash and Megan did not set out to ruin anyone else in their determination to be together. Sure, you could argue in the long run that they did hurt others as their being together allowed Keirran, the catalyst to be born into the world, but they didn't set out that way. Keirran several times throughout the book turns cold and forbidding. I honestly do not understand why any of them stuck with him, especially Annwyl. But I'll get into the rest of the characters later. I know I've read books with characters that are much worse than Keirran, but there is just something about him that infuriates me. Don't get me wrong, I love Julie's writing, but I'll be honest that there were a few times while reading this book that I had to force myself to continue on because I was so angry with him. But then again, that right there might actually be a testament to her skill at crafting a character that elicits such a strong response. As far as the rest of the characters, Annwyl just struck me as weak, honestly when she only put up token complaints whenever Kierren was off doing something horrible in search of saving her. But I tried to mostly overlook that as I can't imagine what it would be like to be fading like she was. But then again, Kenzie wasn't doing so hot either, and who knows how much longer she will have herself, yet she doesn't allow or expect anyone else to save her. Speaking of Kenzie, I absolutely adore her. She's so strong and amazing, and I just love how she and Ethan are together. She softens him without making him into a wimp. And Ethan, while I adore him, well he needed a bit of softening. Sure, his life has been anything but easy, but he really needed someone to get his head out of his butt to show him being angry and standoffish to the world was not the solution, and Kenzie was that person. They definitely have a swoon worthy romance, only stepping this book up yet another notch. From what I understand, this series is supposed to be a trilogy, but I'll be honest that I'm not really sure how everything could possibly be wrapped up in just one more book. Sure there was a little forward momentum with the prophecy surrounding Ethan and Kierren, but I still feel like there's a long way to go yet, especially with the way things ended in this book. Talk about a brutal cliffhanger! But I guess that just means that trilogy or not, the next book will be one heck of a ride. Once again, Julie Kagawa has pulled off one heck of an amazing book with THE IRON TRAITOR. Take my word for it, this book is one heck of a read that will suck you in right from the start and not let go.
