1/2"(5pcs) Cobalt Drill Bit Set M35 HSS Jobber Length

I bought a 10 pack because where I needed to use them, there was no store to buy replacements if it turned out these were junk. In the end, these (this) bit was as pleasant surprise. I drilled 30 holes in a steel I-beam with only needing a single bit and it still drills effectively without needing excessive force. The holes were drilled fast and easily with clean breakout on the backside. The drill bit cutting edge was does show some damage (see closeup image) after the 30 holes but it still drills effectively. I have no doubts the bit would drill another 10 holes on the same bit. I am surprised there is rust on the cutting edge since the HSS and cobalt is pretty rust resistant… I wouldn’t expect rust after sitting just a single day. The hardness of the bit must vary from the tip (very hard) to the shank end (soft) since there is a lot of damage where the bit slipped in the drill jaws a couple times (see close-up). Whatever the hardness range is, I’m happy with the combination of hardness and ductility and the overall drilling results. The bits come in a nice plastic case that can expand in length so it will hold a variety of bits including longer bits. The case opens easily to grab a replacement (I didn't need to) and closes tightly enough to not worry about spilling any. The case is right sized and not too big for the typical handful of bits needed. Overall, I'm very happy with these bits.

Through the years I have gone through plenty of drill bits, some good ones and some not so good ones. I would rank these as pretty decent for the price. This is a pretty common size, so it is nice to have 10 sharp bits, in a great carrying case handy in my tool box. I have to mention the case, I really like it. Most bit cases tend to fall open and scatter your drill bits everywhere. This case has "locking points" (see pic 1) on it and the cover is very firmly on. To open it, simply push in on the side of the case and slide the cover off. I hope this cover lasts a long time, I will be saving it for future use. So if you need a 10 pack of 3/16" bits, I would suggest these. They aren't expensive and they seem to stay pretty sharp and I haven't broken one yet. 2 Thumbs up for value and quality.

Great drill bits. They cut very well. (Be sure to use them with a slow speed to prevent over heating which leads to dulling). They are truly straight, no tip wabble.

Ad says its for hardened steels and when received the case reads for soft steel.... I used them plus a dozen more drilling skid loader tracks for carbide studs.... With a lot of resharpening, it made it thru the harden steel fibers impregnated in JD skid loader tracks.

These hold up well. Keep a good edge.
