Written by award-winning author Julia Donaldson, Songbirds Phonics are highly decodable, beautifully illustrated real stories. The Level 2 More Songbirds phonics books revise all phonics previously covered in Songbirds Levels 1+ and 2, and focus on matching a sound to one letter or more: for example, 'll' as in 'will' and 'th' as in 'that.' The invaluable inside cover notes enable parents/carers and teaching assistants to support children's word recognition and comprehension. This Level 2 More Songbirds Pack contains six fun, high quality stories: · Mr Zed · The Ox and the Yak · The Doll in the Bin · Animal Quiz · The Seven Kids · Ron Rabbit's Egg . Also available: Level 1+-2 eSongbirds Phonics CD-ROM, featuring e-versions of much-loved Songbirds stories for your interactive whiteboard, with audio activities and animations for consolidation and reinforcement.

Great books for learning to read
Great books for helping small children learn to read. If you follow the order on the back of the books, there is a very logical progression in terms of the phonics each book focuses on. My little girl enjoys reading this series more than the other phonics series we have tried and has been progressing well using these.

Too negative and gloomy
I have a fair few books to help my kids to read their first words, however I find this particular series too depressing and negative. For example "the seven kids" has the fox in his den dreaming of "Kid Kebabs" which does not feel appropriate for this age group, and which left my daughter in tears. Several other books strike a similar tone. I don't know how many there are in this series, I've got 9 in level 2 and have binned 5 of them.
