Tron Legacy [Blu-ray] [Region Free]

Tron is a classic Sci-Fi film that has been shown on TV so many times over the years, most people have probably seen it, but considering how long ago it was released although good nowadays it doesn't look that good. Maybe that's just me, but I prefer more modern movies. I've always been a fan of Garret Hedlund ever since I saw him in Four Brothers so when I saw he was in Tron Legacy I thought worth giving the film a go as I enjoyed Tron. He plays his role very well and he especially plays the rebel well. This film starts of with him showing that he isn't one for following rules and society, so sort of gives you the whole idea of the film. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The way the effects was done was good, it blended reality/sci-fi/fantasy all into one very well, and the music by Daft Punk just made the whole film gel together. If you are not a fan of Daft Punk you will get why they did the music for this film, I don't think anyone else could have pulled it off. I suppose if you haven't seen the original you might think you won't understand this movie, that isn't true they explain rather well how this leads on from the original. The characters in the film all make sense and there are some good well known actors in it Michael Sheen, Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Garrett Hedlund, John Hurt. I like the way that Jeff Bridges is in the movie in his original role of creator of alternative world. The action sequences are fun and look really good, the way they make different parts come together is very good. For example its a fantasy computer world, so the director had lots of options to play on in order to really experience an alternative reality. The film ends strangely, but the way it does, it opens up the way for a third movie, which I must admit I would be looking forward.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Tron and Tron Legacy was the film that 100% convinced me that 3D is a gimmick (I was 99% sure before this) but I do love Tron Legacy. It is a film that works best when you really don't think about it. The story is all kinds of silly but it works because the entire concept is a bit silly. Garrett Hedlund does an ok job of the lead but he is wasn't the most charismatic lead of all time (or even 2010). Jeff Bridges as Sam Flynn always had charisma and it shows here, he is the key to the story and does a good job in a role he could have chewed up the scenery with. As Clu he does go scenery chewing and whilst it might have worked without the CGI (which is the weaked CGI in the film) but it doesn't quite work. For me Olivia Wilde is the stand out of all the actors, she brings a fun, child like innocence to the film as well as much needed comic relief. Michael Sheen is way over the top and the rest of the cast are just there doing a job but really this isn't the kind of film you go to see to warch Oscar winning performances. Visually the film is stunning, not since Blade Runner can I remember a film that looked a visually pleasing. Most of the effects are great, with the exception of Clu, who looks too CGI, for some reason. The editing is generally good, most of the time it works well but there is an occasional horror of a cut, which just jars for a couple of seconds. The film does run slightly long but at no time does it feel flat or boring. Easily the best part of the film is the score and in many ways it feels like a 2 hour music video for Daft Punk. It is truly exceptional and I would easily give the album 5 stars. What I truly can't understand was how the score wasn't Oscar nominated. Overall it isn't the perfect film but I have watched it many times and always enjoyed it. If you want the best film of all time, then this isn't it, if you want something silly and fun, it is worth a watch. The DVD quality is good, not up there with Blu ray but with up scaling looks impressive. Extras are a bit lacking which is a pity as this would be a good film to see all the extras on.

Great film if you loved tron

bought this to remind me of the story cause i went to the cinemas to watch the new film tron ares which was a really good film dispite all the negative reviews

Since Tron isn't really in this film and Clu has a lot more screen time than Tron, it should be called "Clu Legacy" (though wasn't Clu permanently derezzed in the first film?!). The scanning laser does not make 3D digital copies of the real world thing it scans but rather physically changes the object into a virtual object; that's how our hero enters the 'game grid' to play lightcycles and doesn't need an omni-directional pad, haptic suit and VR headset to see and interact with the virtual digital environment. Okay so, if the 'game grid' was offline since the mid-1980's until Flynn's -retconned- son, Sam, turned it back on in 2010 when he entered Flynn's Arcade, then shouldn't the grid be exactly the same looking as it was in the first film? I mean, Windows XP on my old PC doesn't evolve into Windows 11 while my desktop is switched off in the closet over the years, right? But, obviously, we're not dealing with logical consistency or continuity or any of that silly stuff here. Tron Legacy looks stylish, shiny, glassy and beautifully illuminated with all new flexi-striplights. However, the story does the same thing to the heroic character of Kevin Flynn as The Last Jedi did to Luke Skywalker, that is, completely removes his heroic nature and demeans all that he had fought for in the previous film and turns him into a useless, taciturn, outcast loner. Tron Legacy is less of a Tron sequel and more of a rebooted Tron mixed with Lawnmower Man 2 (yeah, the awful one). They could've gone a bit further with the story and risked making Kevin Flynn the villain in this piece and have his son, Sam, enter the grid to save him from himself (something like Luke did for his father in Return of the Jedi). But they didn't or weren't brave enough as script writers, instead they gave us the worse 'The Last Jedi stinkpile' of a sequel.

There's a lot of 'meh' reviews out there for Tron: Legacy and I understand where some of that comes from. For me though, this is exactly what I wanted from a sequel to Tron - I adored the silly but romantic idea of the phone-call from Flynn's Arcade and the world that call led into thrilled and amazed me. It was thoughtful, slow sometimes, but always incredible to be inside. I'll leave my review of the film there - much better reviewers out there have written about it, and turn instead to the 3D. Cinema and Home 3D are different animals, that's somewhat unclear to most punters, the technology companies really need to do a better job of explaining it. So where at the cinema, the 3D component in Tron was interesting, sometimes heady in scale, it felt underplayed. At home, where 3D is brighter, crisper and more pronounced - wow. Experiment by turning the 3D on and off during different scenes and what you see is that this is a film not only enhanced by 3D but defined by it. Without the 3D, you're watching a cool pop-video full of effects. With 3D on, you're inside a proper world, not just in terms of depth but also height and scale: camera viewpoints perched high up on ledges give you mild vertiginous feelings, you get that tingle on the hairs at the back of your neck. Characters are distinct and solid within the world and action seems complex and exciting. The Arena scenes are an especially strong demonstration of these effects. 3D content has been achingly slow to appear but at last, Home 3D has it's reference disc to wow and delight. Brilliant effort, can't wait to see now what other directors and cinematographers pull off with the medium.

Die Blu-Ray Umsetzung des Films Tron Legacy ist absolut genial. Ich werde im weiteren Verlauf der Rezension etwas objektiver vorgehen, aber bis dahin muss ich erstmal schwärmen. Auch bei mir lag der Film schon heute im Briefkasten. Der Kauf der Blu-Ray war ein Blindkauf aufgrund des positiven Feedbacks aus meinem Freundeskreis. Jetzt habe ich ihn also zum ersten Mal gesehen und ich bin überwältigt. Er ist innovativ (gut, es gab einen ersten Teil, aber der ist kein Vergleich!), er hat ein HAMMER-BILD, einen ebenso überwältigenden Sound und ist ein Gesamtkunstwerk! Das Steelbook ist gut verarbeitet, schön clean und hat keinen FSK-Flatschen auf der Hülle. Dieser befindet sich, wie die Zusatzinformationen auf einem Papp-Umschlag, der leicht abzulösen ist (genauso wie der Disney Prämien-Aufkleber auf der Hülle). Das Set besteht aus drei Discs: Hauptfilm in 3D, Hauptfilm in 2D mit Extras und einer dritten Disc mit der Digital Copy Version des Films. Außerdem, wie immer dabei, ein paar Werbezettel. Zunächst einmal zum Testequipment: Panasonic 42" 3D-Plasma und Blu-Ray Player, AV-Receiver mit 7.1 Lautsprecher-Konfiguration. Abgedunkelter Raum, kein Licht. STORY Inhaltlich schließt Tron Legacy an den ersten Teil an (den ich auch gesehen habe). Allerdings wird in ausführlichen Rückblenden die Story soweit aufgearbeitet, dass man den ersten Teil nicht kennen muss. To make a long story short: Der Sohn von Kevin Flynn, Sam, findet einen Weg in den (das?) Raster und will mit seinem Dad nach Hause. Eine lange Zeit ist die Story recht simpel, unterwegs wird sie aber doch etwas verstrickter. Vielleicht unnötig. Vielleicht muss man sich den Film aber auch nur zwei Mal anschauen. Diese Frage werde ich nach dem zweiten Mal Gucken beantworten ;-) Wie immer, aufgrund verschiedener Geschmäcker, keine Bewertung in Prozent. BILD 95% Das Bild liegt natürlich in Full HD vor. Das Bildverhältnis wechselt zwischen 2,35:1 und 1,78:1 (Vollbild auf einem 16:9 TV) hin und her. Dies ist diesmal sehr gut gelungen. Wesentlich besser als in The Dark Knight, wo mich das doch ziemlich gestört hat. Um eine Idee zu bekommen wie der Film optisch umgesetzt ist, muss man tatsächlich nur das Disney Schloss am Anfang des Films sehen. Es ist, anders als üblich, im Tron Style umgesetzt und allein diese Sequenz ist Referenzmaterial um seinen Bekannten mal zeigen zu können, "was so geht". Wirklich umwerfend sind der Kontrast und der Schwarzwert. Da das Bild die meiste Zeit (80%) schwarze Anzüge und schwarze Gegenstände auf schwarzem Grund zeigt, mit ein paar farbigen Linien zwischendurch, ist es umso erstaunlicher, wie gut man doch Einzelheiten erkennen kann und vor allem der 3D-Effekt funktioniert! Anfangs war ich diesbezüglich doch etwas skeptisch, aber dieser Film nutzt die technischen Möglichkeiten voll aus! Vor allem Lichtbrechungen an Staub und Rauch sehen genial aus und vermitteln ein gutes 3D Feeling. Außerdem bricht das Licht auch an der Mattscheibe des TV, ein interessanter Effekt. Überhaupt ist der 3D Effekt der beste seit Avatar (da ich den auch auf Blu-Ray 3D besitze, kann ich vergleichen). Die Tiefenwirkung und Plastizität sind auf Referenz-Niveau! Es gibt zwar nur zwei Pop-Out Effekte (bei 1 Stunde 18 Minuten und 1 Stunde 54 Minuten), aber das mindert das Bild nicht im geringsten. Während der Szenen in der realen Welt ist das Bild in 2D. Außerdem sind die Farben erdiger, wohingegen auf dem Raster alles (logischerweise) cleaner ist. Ein weiterer Punkt, der die Qualität der technischen Umsetzung beweist, ist der Special Effect des jungen Kevin Flynn (oder auch CLU). Wirklich sehr gut gelungen, wenn auch bei Bewegungen des Mundes als Special Effect zu entlarven. Crosstalk und Artefakte konnte ich beim ersten Mal nicht ausmachen. Jetzt, beim zweiten Mal gucken ist mir eine Doppelkontur aufgefallen. Und zwar in Minute 39 beim Fingerzeig des Gehilfen von CLU. Die 5% Abzug gibt es wegen des wechselnden Bildverhältnisses. Warum nicht einfach alles in 1,78:1?!? Ist für 3D echt besser. SOUND 95% Der Sound ist genauso gut wie das Bild. Er liegt als 7.1 DTS-HD vor (Deutsch, Englisch, Französisch). Auch hier werden Referenzwerte erreicht. Um es gleich vorweg zu nehmen: die 5% Abzug gibt es wegen der nicht ganz so guten Verteilung auf alle Kanäle. Der Soldat James Ryan auf DVD kann das z.B. etwas besser. Wirklich hervorzuheben ist der Soundtrack. Er hat zwar ein paar Anleihen von The Dark Knight, kommt aber sehr druckvoll und stimmig rüber. Er ergänzt das Bild perfekt. Vor allem der Subwoofer hat immer wieder was zu tun ;-) EXTRAS 50% Die Extras sind der große Schwachpunkt des DREI (!) Discs-Sets. Es gibt zwar einige Extras, auch alle in Full-HD und teilweise sogar in 5.1 Surround Sound, aber die sind so inhaltslos, dass man sich diese hätte sparen können. Auf drei Discs hätte man deutlich mehr unterbringen können! Auf der ersten Disc befinden sich nur zwei 3D Trailer von Fluch d. Karibik 4 und Cars 2. Auf Disc 2 liegt der Film in 2D vor und die meistens Extras. Außerdem darauf sind drei kurze Making-Ofs (jeweils 10-15 Minuten), ein Kurzfilm, der die Ereignisse zwischen Teil 1 und Teil 2 von Tron beleuchtet (beleuchten soll), ein Musikvideo, einen Trailer zur Animationsserie Tron Uprising und eine Erklärung zum Thema Blu-Ray 3D (mit Timon und Pumba!??). Besonders die Making-Ofs haben mich wirklich enttäuscht. Man hätte so viel zeigen können: die Technik, das Motion Capturing, Design, Musik usw und so fort. Man bekommt auch von alledem etwas zu sehen, aber es kratzt nur an der Oberfläche. Auf der dritten Disc befindet sich nur die Digital Copy zum Herunterladen des Films. Alles in allem sehr enttäuschend und nur die Menge bringt dann noch die 50% Wertung. Noch ein Nachtrag, der nicht wirklich in eine Kategorie passt: zwei, drei Details haben mich doch sehr an Star Wars erinnert: zum einen die Kapuzenumhänge (vor allem in schwarz), zum anderen der Sound des Gleiters bei 1 Stunde 46/47 Minuten als er am höchsten Punkt den Motor ab- und wieder anstellt. Das klang doch sehr verdächtig nach einem Podracer. Bei Fragen, Anregungen, Kritik: Kommentieren! Ich hoffe, ich konnte helfen.

When i saw Tron Legacy i don't believe that i had seen the first Tron much or was a big fan of it per say.But This amazing sequel got me into the franchise.First of all let's get the obvious out of the way.This movie looks stunning visually.No wonder this director got chosen to direct Top Gun maverick.Even though there isnt much in common with the 2 movies except how well the movies are directed and made.Tron legacy wasnt really all that well received i believe when it came out.And even today i dont know if people really appreciate it all that much compare to the original classic but personally i find this sequel underated.Its a perfect sequel to the first one.I know to some it might feel more like a situation where style takes over substance or story.But i find the story is still well suited to follow the first movie.Its the perfect follow up i find.The story makes sense in the way it would continue things like that.In the sequel we follow the story of jeff bridges's son who goes into the world his father created and has to kind of go through the same kind of beats that his father had in the first movie except that everything in the sequel looks way less cheezy and is upgraded to a hundred when it comes to style and look.In car analogy if the first movie was a classic cadillac the sequel is a sleek sexy lamborgini lol.The costumes,the sets,the special effects,the production design....its like the director saw the first movie and said i want a version of that but all upgraded for a modern audience.Even the score is perfect and goes well with the movie.its a perfect match.I love some of the new upgrades.Like the light cycle battle wich is one of the outstanding moments.It is so much nicer than the one if the first movie.The movie's special effects look great except for a de-aged jeff bridges that look a little fake at times but that is expected its not easy to make an actor look like 40 years younger with the computer and have it believable looking at all times.Some scenes look better than others and some look a little odd and creepy looking lol.But since the de-aged bridges in most of the movie plays a bad guy the creepy fx actually ads a scary quality to him that work given the context of the movie.Olivia Wilde is in the movie and she's the added eye candy that is part of the upgraded elements in this overall very sexy sleek looking sequel.I hope they make a third movie one of theses days and build up on what is offered here cause there is lots of potential.Its surprising the movie never got release on 4k cause this is one that could look great with hdr i'm thinking.But 4k aside the movie look good enough on bluray.This is a great transfer from Disney.No dnr.Just a great image with good details and a light natural grain layer.This is a great transfer.Audio is good too.Very boomy in the low end.The score really shines on the bluray.Pick this one up if you like the movie before Disney discontinues it cause we all know how much they like phisical media right?lol.I think we might get a 4k later in the future cause this title seems prime for it but not sure if we will get it from Disney.They might give it to some other boutique label to do instead cause i doubt they will do it for a title that dont seem all that popular.I mean the first movie is liked a lot cause its a classic but not so much the sequel.But then again i dont think the first movie would benefit from a 4k compare to the second one.

The original Tron movie is one of my all-time most favorite movies ever. I saw the original Tron movie on the big screen back in 1982 and I was really wowed by it. Here was a movie about a young computer programmer and video game designer named Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) who gets trapped inside of a computer world and must survive against his very own creations. How cool is that for a movie storyline? Plus, I could really relate to this movie because back in those days I used to go to the video game arcade all of the time. In fact, in the same shopping center where I first saw Tron, there was also a video game parlor located there named Time Zone Arcade where I spent a lot of Friday evenings playing the newest video games before going to see the latest movies. Even now, 28 years later at the theater where I watched Tron:Legacy this last December, I played Ms. Pac Man, and Galaga in the theaters game section just before seeing the movie. It was like Deja Vu. Anyway, I absolutely loved the new Tron: Legacy movie. It was everything that the first movie was and so much more. To think that some 28 odd years later after the release of the first Tron and here I was seeing a big-budget sequel on the big screen featuring the return of two of its original stars, Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner and, well...Wow, I practically had to pinch myself to see if I was dreaming. I never would have thought that there would ever be a sequel made to this movie in my wildest dreams. During its theater run I managed to see Tron: Legacy 4 times, twice in 3D, and twice the regular version, and I would have seen it at least a couple more times if I could have. This movie is awesome and really entertains you. It is films such as this one that I go to movie theaters for in the first place, to see big, epic, larger-than-life action adventure movies loaded with wild and interesting characters, great action sequences, spectacular special effects, and lots of fun, and this movie delivered all of that and more in Spades. The only negative that I can give the film is that I did not think the 3D looked all that impressive. Of course I only saw this movie in a regular theater, I did not see it in IMAX, which I have heard the 3D looked much better in IMAX. But I digress, this review is not about the 3D Blu-Ray DVD, only the standard Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack of which I own. EDIT: As of 12-17-2011 I am now the proud owner of the 3D Blu ray version of the film and let me tell you, it looks absolutely stunning! I really was surprised at how so much better the 3D in this movie looks at home. If you are considering obtaining the 3D version of this film, do not hesitate. It looks very impressive. But, besides all of that, this movie still rocks whether viewed in 3D or not. All I can say is if you enjoy big epic Sci Fi action adventure movies as much as I do then you should definitely see this film. Trust me, they do not get much bigger or more epic than this.

De eerste film ging meer over de corrumpering van het Internet, afluisterpraktijken, software piraterij door grote bedrijven en de integratie van statistische kunstmatige intelligentie in de zoekmachines ter vervanging van bibliotheeksystemen met dominantie van de zoeksystemen over de gebruiker als gevolg (Master Control). De gebruiker wordt daarin door de programma's gezien als een God-entiteit, maar ook een probleem voor Master-Control. Deze film heeft een andere invalshoek. De sequel van TRON richt zich specifiek op de gijzelneming van een enkeling die zich dan als sterkste counter-hacker moet manifesteren en zich in zijn eentje tegen het misdadige systeem keert. Hierbij bevindt de gijzelaar zich in een besturingssysteem dat de beslissingen neemt voor de gebruiker en zich afkeert van de gebruiker. Wat je specifiek te zien krijgt dat je laat zien dat het om een counter-hacking omgeving gaat zijn de Zombie-threads en de compleet gecorrumpeerde architectuur die UNIX-achtige besturingssystemen bieden, waarbij je ook als je geen autorisatie hebt, je door te drammen toch toegang kan krijgen in enkele gevallen, wat uiteindelijk dan het hele systeem bloot legt. Psychologisch laat de film te wensen over. Wat wel correct uitgebeeld wordt is de wensen van de gijzelnemers. Het ene kamp compulsieve gijzelnemers wil dat je je situatie accepteert, je erbij neerlegt en je werk en je leven vergeet. Het andere kamp gijzelnemers bestaat uit spelverslaafden die willen dat je continu hun spelletje speelt. Het gaat fout met de uitwerking van de karakters. De karakters hebben de diepgang van een garnaal en lijken op karakters uit spelletjes die continu van de hak op de tak springen en zonder enige motivatie een complete ommekeer maken in wat ze vinden dat nodig is. Ze komen als het ware zonder inzicht tot inzicht en dat klopt niet. De film is ook verwarrend omdat het niet duidelijk gemaakt wordt wat het verschil is tussen een user en data bij het omhoogsturen van data door het portaal. Het zou geholpen hebben als de film nog een keer duidelijk zou maken dat de disks data betreffen en de avatars de karakters. De uitwerking van de film laat dusdanig te wensen over dat ik achteraf nog eens moest nadenken over of het correct was en dat haalde me uit de film tijdens het kijken. Het einde, zonder er iets van weg te geven, was inhoudsloos en oppervlakkig. De complete onderbouwing van het verhaal ontbreekt.
