Songbird

She had such a beautiful singing voice. It's delightful to listen to.

I bought this to replace a CD copy of the same album - the music needs no introduction or review; Eva Cassidy was a rare talent. Onto the product itself. I read a few negative reviews so was a little unsure what to expect, however, I needn't have worried. The particular copy I received is superb - a nice heavyweight slab of vinyl, which seems to be the norm today. That doesn't necessarily translate into perfect sound, however, on this occasion the results are stunning. The noise floor is all but imperceptible - inky-black silences, stunning clarity and a real sense of the acoustic in which the recordings were made. This would be one LP to play to any die-hard digital fan to demonstrate just how good analogue playback can be. It's probably true that modern pressings are not all equal, however, my feeling is that overall, vinyl pressing quality is considerably better than it was at the end of the 1980s into the early 1990s. Back then, it seemed clear to me that the major labels had lost interest in the old format, with pretty rotten quality control, to the extent that I gave up on buying vinyl. Fast forward thirty years, and things are so much better, with this particular record being amongst the best I've bought recently.

Eva Cassidy's voice is so beautiful and pure, it can bring one to tears: "Fields of Gold", "Songbird", "Over the Rainbow", are examples. Her ballads are outstanding. Unfortunately, on this album, there are a few more pacey, 'gospley' numbers which, for me at any rate, don't work, and I find I need to fast-forward these. Nevertheless, I would buy the album again - and did with this (I already have the album, and this one is for a friend), simply for the beautiful ballads.

It’s a CD so what can I say? Arrived as expected and plays well. Eva Cassidy is fantastic and had the most beautiful voice. One of my favourites ever.

I’ve only recently been buying Eva Cassidy albums and I’ve been missing out on such a beautiful singer jazz and blues with a little country thrown in for good measure her voice is stunning and the music arrangements are fantastic there’s plenty of detail on offer and a great sound stage I will be buying more of her albums in the future I would highly recommend this album.

I have listened to this album 1,000 times. It never ever gets old. Makes me cry with joy and sorrow every time. Eva is one of the greatest singers of all time. Truly beautiful. So sad for the fact she has departed this world. But ~ she lives on, in our hearts 💕 💜💝💖❤️‍🩹

Mir war bekannt, dass Eva Cassidy Katie Meluas großes Vorbild ist. Das "virtuelle" Duett mit Katie Melua -"Wonderful World" - hat mich sehr berührt und neugierig gemacht. Daraufhin habe ich diese überwältigende Album erworben. Diese wirklich begnadete Stimme vermag Stücke in solcher Emotionalität und Tiefe zu interpretieren, dass es einem wirklich die Schuhe auszieht. Es ist schon schade, das ein solches Juwel nicht mehr unter uns ist. Heutige Popsternchen und vor allem diverse Produzenten-Teams sollten sich hier einmal ansehen, was wirklich einen Star ausmacht. Alle Stücke auf der CD sind mit glasklarer Stimme vorgetragen. Hinzu kommt eine - ich nenne es einmal sparsame - Instrumentierung, die allerdings perfekt und lebendig arrangiert ist. Man möchte die einzelnen Musikquellen (im Auto, CD-Player im Wohnzimmer, MP3-Player) gar nicht mehr ausmachen. "Autumn Leaves" ist eines dieser prächtigen Werke. Aber auch Stings "Fields Of Gold" ist bemerkenswert interpretiert und verleiht diesem ohnehin wunderschönen Stück noch einmal eine sehr persönliche Note. Gänsehaut ist aber in jedem Fall beim Titelstück garantiert. Sprachlos und zutiefst berührt bin ich jedesmal beim Hören von "Songbird". Wundervoll! Gäbe es mehr Sterne, ich würde sie vergeben. "Songbird" gehört garantiert zu den besten Alben, die ich mein eigen nennen kann. Einfach nur Klasse und nach dieser Hörprobe nicht das letzte von Eva Cassidy. Mit dieser Stimme kann sie nur im Himmel sein.
