At the age of 10 he was designing things such as an infinitely variable bike sprocket (that never worked), and a pedal hovercraft (that did). Not content with these, he later came across a copy of Ron Champion s Build your own sports car for as little as £250, and built his own sports car for £3000. His interest in moving objects and machines led him to gain a degree in mechanical engineering, a useful qualification when building the first 1k camper. Stuart Ball is Mr DIY so much so that he calls B&Q his second home. He is qualified in many areas furniture making, wood turning, upholstery, and computer aided design, to name just a few and is the proud owner of more power tools than most building companies.
