A really engaging and easy to follow guide for solving the Rubix Cube. Each stage is well explained and nicely illustrated and the interactive nature of the book is very thought out. Solving is divided into seven steps, each giving a simple explanation for what needs to happen and how to achieve it, and algorithms are introduced in a clear and simple way. The sense of accomplishment in solving a Rubix Cube for the first time is enormous – if you buy this book for your child, be warned, you will forever be hearing those turns and twists.

The Rubik’s Cube is old! I had one as a kid so long ago I can barely remember. Now, if I’d had this book then, solving the blasted thing would have been simpler. But it is a complex problem – as this book reveals, given how long it takes to explain in simple language what to do. And the language and pictures are good, and the thing has an interactive feel, the narrator asking questions and posing quizzes to the reader throughout. The biggest issue, though, is: how many potential buyers are out there, given that this is a dated phenomenon? Still, if your kid does somehow acquire a cube, then this is an invaluable resource… though perhaps let them try to work out the solution themselves, first, as we all had to do, before giving them this extended cheat sheet.

This book does not give you the FASTEST way to solve a cube but it does offer a fool proof solution which is VERY easy to learn. I recall when I was a kid (about 11 or 12) getting a book which gave a long list of alternative moves for each situation you might encounter as you solve each layer of the cube but they were far from easy to learn and retain. This cube gives you TWO very basic moves which are then used in different sequences throughout the solution. All you need to remember is how many times you perform the move and what way the cube should be in your hand as you do it. My 9 year old solved his first cube within 3 hours of getting this book and 2 days later he he here now solving cubes without having to refer to the book at all. He's very pleased with himself. I see other reviewers have mentioned the perhaps overly childish descriptive chapters - I would tend to agree with that. But it does not detract from the book's effectiveness. My boy simply skipped over the chapters and focussed on the important parts - the moves.

My 8 years old is observed with rubiks so I thought this would be great. Wrong!!! Difficult to understand 😪 not great book.

Great book! Very well written. I would highly recommend this. Word of advise - the cube is very difficult for beginners. Not appropriate for young kids, it will only frustrate them. Maybe 8-10 years old minimum. It took me 5 hours the first time to solve puzzle, 2 hours the second time. Two thirds of puzzle is very easy to master without book and can easily be learned. Final third is difficult to master without book, but can be mastered with practice. After many days of practice, I can now solve cube without book. Most younger kids would lose patience after an hour. Recap - book is well worth price, and is well written with good illustrations.

It was fun to re-connect with the fun puzzle-solving f my childhood. I remember someone showing me how to do the rubik's cube and once you learn the system (or one of them) you can always solve it. Of course that was some time ago and I have forgotten all the moves. I must say, it is quite the task to try and explain this in a written format. But the writer did a good job. I am just not sure what age group this book is aimed at. It is written in a way that would be relatable for 7 year olds, but the systems explained are much too complex for that age group. It is a good thing the book offers videos as a bonus that can make it easier for younger kids and visual learners.
