You will need to swing it but yes! I obliterated some large rocks in my yard very quickly and it held up incredibly!

Are there any markings on the hammer that indicate it is soft steel?

No there’s no markings other then the weight on mine, however I have a 4 lb 14 and 20 version of the B.A.S.H hammers and all the faces have not dented much
