HD Cable for Wii

Does a good job of converting the Wii's signal to our HD tv. There is noticeable picture quality differences, but that's due to up-scaling, not the fault of this adapter. No lines, no skipping or juddering. Good solid product.

I needed to find a product that would give a clean 480p output in preparation for a new retro upscaler I ordered called the mClassic. You'll see several small white brick looking adapters for the Wii on Amazon. Some output an upscaled 1080p image, but I wanted just 480p which is the highest natively supported by the Wii anyway. This left me with 2 options the Hyperkin HD cable and the KCool variety of small white brick adapters. The KCool did indeed display a 480p image at half the price of the Hyperkin but with a lot of noise displaying as a diagonal red lines across the image (painfully noticeable when flat colors were displayed on screen, and against the horizontal lines the Wii uses at various places in its user interface). The Hyperkin however had no such issue. The result is a clean image that looks just as good as my official Wii component cables with no distracting visual noise. For whatever reason you may need an HDMI output from the Wii (with cost in mind and without mods that require disassembling the system), this is the product you want. Easily worth the extra cost. Remember, this will not "clean up" the image. I thought it may be a tad sharper or "crisper" overall but in my limited testing playing the same small section of a game with official component cables and then the Hyperkin, they looked virtually identical.

Works great for old school Wii

I bought this adapter to convert my Wii to HDMI as efficiently and as high quality as possible without paying crazy prices. For the price, this adapter is extremely high quality. The picture quality as very crisp, audio is clear and rich, setup is super easy, barely an inconvenience, and the cord is long enough to reach most setups without an extension. It does come with a catch though. As pointed out by other reviewers here (thanks guys), the left and right audio channels are flipped. If you're running mono (who even does that anymore) or don't care about audio, this probably isn't an issue. However, for the audiophiles out there, this is a major concern. Playing Star Wars: Rogue Leader and hearing the TIE Fighter fly around one way and hear it flying the other way is really annoying. BUT!!!! There is a fix. If you open the box portion of the cable, cut, swap, and resolder the correct wires, you can fix the problem no issue. I did it, probably took me an hour or less, and now it works great. It also forced me to learn basic soldering, a skill I have now to use for other projects. Annoying as it was, I do think it was worth it to have this premium of a cable for this good of a price. In short: great cable, great quality; major flaw, but can be fixed relatively easily. Would recommend, but only if you're willing to put in the effort to make it what it should have been out of the box. This is the HDMI adapter to get for hooking up the Wii to modern TVs. There are cheaper options out there, but the Wii only outputs a 480i/480p signal and so the ones that claim to "upscale" to 720p or 1080p aren't doing the Wii's picture any favors. This one leaves it alone at 480p, so the same as if you used a component cable (the Red/Green/Blue/White/Red one). This results in a sharper image than if you use the Yellow/White/Red cable and doesn't add any unnecessary processing to the image. You simply plug it in and go. You might have to go into the Wii settings and change the image from 480i to 480p, though. The resulting picture is noticeably sharper than using the stock R/W/Y cable and looks good on modern TV's. Obviously this machine is a few generations old so the quality won't rival the Switch or even the WiiU, but it looks good and many Wii games hold up well today. So I'm very happy with this cable and it's simplicity, it feels well made and is a great option for hooking a Wii up to HDMI.

I was worried this wasn't going to work with my pal wii after reading some of the reviews but it works great and the sound and video quality is very good.

Out of the box, the Hyperkin Wii to HDMI cable seemed great - the scaling looked accurate without oversharpening, there was no blur or distortion. However, after about 4 weeks of use, the cable is essentially unusable. It flickers, distorts and cuts out every few seconds, which makes it useless for any function.

The output quality is way better compared to most of the Wii2HDMI adapters (no diagonal/jail-cell lines, noise). The caveat is that this cable may not be fully compatible with some 4K smart TVs. Make sure your display supports a 480p HDMI 1.4 signal. In my case, the cable worked perfectly on a gaming monitor that had HDMI 1.4 ports, but had frequent disconnections (handshake issues) on a 2021 Sony Bravia TV with HDMI 2.1 ports (not ideal for action/racing games). I found a workaround by using a Denon AVR connected to the TV that is capable of HDMI switching/passthrough. Connecting the cable to that has worked perfectly without any signal degradation.
