Ultimate Bee Gees

Time to set the record straight here - I have read a number of reviews about the Bee Gees over the years and a few on this album compilation. Most are good, a few average at best and some even quite derogatory in their content. Some people just never seem to be satisfied! yes, I have every one of these songs; more than once in probably every case, but what I do not or did not have is the DVD. If you do not want to duplicate songs you do not already have then it is simple - do not buy any more!!! It is not rocket science at the end of the day. The DVD is not all promos and such as some say, I have followed these guys longer than I can often remember and not regretted one moment, in fact I have enjoyed and relished every moment!! I have seen videos to their songs and they are here. It is a superb DVD collection of some of their finest work. No, not everything is there; far from it. Why? well there is not one DVD big enough to hold it all for a start and that is if everything they ever did was still available - thanks though to various {names ommited} broadcasting and other such companies a lot of their visual recordings have been lost, recorded over by incompetents or the like. I think we should be grateful that a reasonable enough amount has survived for us to enjoy and appreciate and be grateful for. At the point of writing this I have only watched the DVD, I've not yet listened to the discs, but despite having every song already; I will, I know, enjoy hearing every single one. An absolutely amazing career for these awesomely talented brothers - to quote Barry Gibb from "End Of The Rainbow" from his superb "In The Now" album - "...from humble beginnings, right to the end..." and what an end it will be I am sure; not over yet, Barry keeps this amazing legacy going some more yet!! Bless your heart Barry, thank you for all the wonderful songs and the fantastic memories that accompany them! Another fantastic collection of an amazing back catalogue!!!!

Loved the Bee Gees for years. This is great album all the top songs. Arrived on day stated and in perfect condition. Plays beautifully.

By far my FAVOURITE GROUP AND SINGERS and the AMAZING songs they wrote for others and the cash they gave away unlike mean Paul/Rod/Mick and others Next to Buddy Holly and Beach Boys. The Beatles were great but Paul is a mean one Bee Gees yes this IS the ULTIMATE Guilty the lot!!!! A.J.Wickham

Discs seem to work fine, would have been nice if the case wasn't s bit crushed.

Every song is superb, the double CD is truly the ultimate collection of Bee Gee hits. Love it. Excellent condition and delivery.

Bee Geesとか、The Beach Boysとか、ヒットシングルを量産したグループのベストアルバムは、ついつい何枚も購入してしまいます。 曲順が違うだけで、また、別の雰囲気を味わえるからかもしれません。 本作は「Ultimate Bee Gees：The 50th Anniversary Collection」と銘打たれています。究極のベスト、ということでしょうか？ ＣＤ１枚目は「Night Out」と名付けられ、ダンサブルな曲が多く収録されています。 すなわち、世界中をフィーバーさせた1970年代後半の「Stayin' Alive」、「Jive Talkin'」、「Night Fever」、「More Than a Woman」などが怒涛のように押し寄せてきて、思わずステップを踏みたくなるような構成。Barry Gibbのファルセットヴォイスは、やはり強力。ラストは最初期のヒット「Spicks and Specks」のライブバージョンで締めくくられます。 ＣＤ２枚目は「Night In」と名付けられ、これも彼らの大きな魅力であるバラード中心の選曲。 こちらは、1960年代後半の曲が多く、「How Can You Mend a Broken Heart」、「Run to Me」、「 I've Gotta Get a Message to You」などでは、Robin Gibbの切ないヴォーカルが心に沁みます。ラストには、やはりライブ３曲が収録されています。 そして、このデラックス・エディションの最大の魅力は、貴重な映像が年代順に収められた３枚目のＤＶＤにあると思います。 冒頭の「Spicks and Specs」は、第２の故郷オーストラリアで収録されたものだと思います。モノクロですが、３人にドラムスが加わった４人編成の演奏シーンを見ることができます。 続く「New York Mining Disaster」では、５人編成となっています。色鮮やかな映像で、歌詞に合わせたような炭鉱夫のシーンも加わり、チャラいプロモ・ビデオとは一線を画しています。 3曲目「Massachusetts」は、またモノクロに戻りますが、この頃はRobinをフロントに立てていたことが分かります。顔立ちがジャニーズ系で可愛かったからでしょうね。また、Mauriceのベースプレイもカッコいい。 続く「I've Gotta Get a Message to You」もフロントはRobin。ヴォーカルがBarryにバトンタッチされると、ギターとの位置が入れ替わるところがご愛嬌。 口パクはやむを得ないとして、動くBee Geesを見ることが出来るのは、ファンにとっては嬉しいと思います。 次の「Tomorrow Tomorrow」は、Robinが一次抜けてしまった1969年頃の映像だと思います。サウンドは充実していますが、ビジュアル的には、やはり寂しいかなあと。 6曲目「Lonely Days」では、３人が再結集して一安心。しかし、ロールスロイスやベンツに乗って、リッチさを強調する内容はどうかなあと・・。 続く名曲「How Can You Mend a Broken Heart」は、スタジオで女性ファンに囲まれ、お立ち台で歌うRobinとBarryがちょっとダサい感じですが、曲がいいので許せてしまいます。バックトラックはカラオケとしても、実際に歌っているところが嬉しい。 続くは「Run to Me」で、ここではバックメンバーなしの３人のみの映像となっています。 そして、怒涛のダンス・シリーズへと突入。先ずは「Jive Talkin'」で、主役はリズムの統率も取るBarryに移行していることがわかります。Mauriceのベースも上手い。 「Night Fever」、「Stayin' Alive」はMTV前夜の映像ですが、何度も見た記憶があります。 映画「Saturday Night Fever」の掉尾を飾った「How Deep is Your Love」での３人のコーラスは、やはり素晴らしい、の一言に尽きます。 続く「Too Much Heaven」も極上のバラード。 14曲目「For Whom the Bell Tolls」は、ドラマチックな構成で、所謂ミュージックビデオの趣き。 15曲目「Alone」は、昔の映像も登場し、大成功を収めた後の余裕すら感じさせます。 いかにもMTVで流れそうな16曲目「Still Waters」では、３人ともサングラスを。目元のシワが気になり始めたか？ 久々に元気な曲「You Win Again」では、それでも３人が素顔を表し、カッコいい作りとなっています。 ちょっと「Jive Talkin'」に似ているラストの「One」は、３人揃った姿の見納めのようで、一抹の寂しさが・・。 偉大なポップ・グループの全貌を俯瞰できる優れたベストアルバムだと思います。
