Brannan Max Min Thermometer and Hygrometer - Ideal Greenhouse Thermometer and Humidity Meter To Monitor Maximum and Minimum Temperatures and Humidity Easily Wall Mounted

Over the years I purchased quite a few Hi Low Temperature Thermometers, all of which have been the now discontinued mercury style affairs. The glass tubes are always far too delicate, and more often than not they break too easily. I've bought several Brannan products over the years, and they have all been excellent quality, and very accurate, so when I saw this rather attractive round needle thermometer, I thought I might give one a test run. The rear casing is made from good quality ABS plastic, if it was metal then the metal coils that react to temperature change would give an inaccurate reading. The main body of the thermometer is a nice metal bronze antique style affair, very clear to read, and the three hands,coloured black,red and blue are also made of metal. Setting both Hi & Low temperature needles is very straight forward, but the main black temperature needle gives a surprisingly accurate reading, that due to its design takes quite a while to settle. That is a good thing, because you know the temperature is being measured carefully. Even the small humidity gauge beneath, responds slowly, and quite accurately as well,compared to the very accurate digital Oregan Scientific weather station on my wall, it works well considering it's a very basic leaf spring construction. Without having seen this temperature gauge in the flesh before purchasing it, there was always a risk that the £13 had been too much to pay, after all it does look very nice in the photographs, but thankfully it represents very good value for money, and above all it's very accurate and if cared for properly should last many years. Always a risk buying a product without seeing it first, but it turns out this was money very well spent.

Bought to replace a long line of modern liquid min/max thermometers (not the old mercury ones) which end up with the liquids mixing or bleaching in sunlight after a short period of use. I was put off by the bad reviews, but have no problem setting the min and max needles by hand after reading the instruction. Seems tolerably accurate, (how do you know if it's a couple of degrees out unless you have a calibrated and certified thermometer to compare it with?), and the plants won't die if it's a couple of degrees out anyway. Really easy to read from outside the greenhouse, and looks good. Better than many thermometers on sale in this price range.

For reasons not under the control of the producer of this product, I managed to demolish two of these but persevered with a third. When not demolished, it seems to work very well giving accurately the information which I wish to have from such an item. However, it is a little fragile and needs careful handling!

Unlike many other max/min thermometers on the market today, this one actually works. I need it for my workshop as I want to monitor temperature changes over the course of a day/week too much one way or the other can lead to problems and I need to do something about that quickly. The hygrometer also seems to be accurate as far as I can tell (it's a bit hard to measure humidity variance without using another hygrometer - which I don't have!). So far it is an instrument with which I am pleased; it also looks attractive!

Easy to set and read. Far better than digital type.

It does not work as max,min all 3 needles move together, want to return item

Its a nice instrument as made by Brannan...but this one has the blue and red needles installed wrong. Red needle should be on the right of the black needle (Max temp) and the blue needle on the left of the black needle (min temp). Does it matter....well yes because the needles are 1degree thick...so you have to remember to read off the "inside" of the needles edge and ignore the pointer at the end of the needle.

Maybe feels a bit flimsy, but it seems good enough. Looks good and does the job

Bello bellissimo e perfettamente funzionante, lo adoro. Un po' leggero ma si sente che è fatto bene e la funzione massimo/minimo per la temperatura funziona bene.

Cumple su función aunque, lógicamente, no se le puede exigir una precisión extraordinaria. Es elegante, se puede colgar fácilmente en cualquier sitio, o situarlo sobre algún apoyo. Prácticamente no necesita más instrucciones que las que trae para configurar el inicio: poner las manecillas roja y azul en su lugar para empezar. El agarre para mover la manecilla azul (mínima), iba algo duro al principio. Luego hay que dejarlo unas horas para que se estabilice y ya marcha solo. Para hacerse una idea de temperaturas y humedad, más que suficiente.

I haven't yet managed to fit the Max/Min thermometer as it only has a keyhole shaped mounting hole and my greenhouse has an all metal frame. I will need to make up a backing plate to which I can fit a screw for the instrument to hang on, and at the same time allowing the backing plate to be attached to the metal structure - somehow and I haven't yet come up with anything suitable. The greenhouse structure is all aluminum as are the screws that hold it all together. These screws are all cut to length so that there is nothing left to which I can attach the plate to. This is annoying as the instrument looks great and is well made and my old Max/min mercury/alcohol thermometer has worn away internally and so does not register accurate temps any more.

Funktioniert einwandfrei. Abweichungen von 0,5-1 Grad aber das hängt damit zusammen dass das Thermometer/Hydrometer im Flur hängt und die Heizungen in den Räumen. Das Hydrometer reagiert auch ziemlich gut. Denn nach dem Duschen, wenn die Badezimmertür auf ist geht es direkt hoch. Bin sehr zufrieden. Hübsch und ohne Batterie.
