A great read for horror fans
After reading the first volume 'Days Gone Bye' I immediately downloaded 'Miles Behind Us' and was not disappointed. These six issues focus on Rick's budding friendship with Tyreese who comes into the comics a lot ealier than he does in the show and has more of a pivotal role. He helps out more, acts as Rick's second in command and does not do any whining which annoyed the hell out of me in the show. We are introduced to Hershal's family at the farm and a lot of the arc on the show sticks closely to that of the comics with a fue subtle changes here and there. The most obvious being that some of the characters are still alive that are dead in the show and vice versa. I was hoping to see more of Andrea and Glenn but I guess their arcs will develop as I get further into the story. Carol has been the story quite a bit in these issues and she seems very different than her show counterpart - she is younger, more outgoing and happy and one of the more optimistic members of the group. One thing I've noticed is that the undead aren't referred to as 'Walkers' in the comic but reffered to by their original name 'Zombie' (or occasional 'Roamer'). It is so much fun reading the comics after watching the show to see how the characters and story were originally conceived but I still do find myself missing Daryl who is a fan favourite on the show. Overall, worth reading if you are a fan of the show or a fan of the Zombie genre in general.

On the road
Second volume in the collected editions series of horror comic the walking dead. Depicting the struggles of a group of survivors in the world post an outbreak of zombies having led to the collapse of society. Led by small town sheriff Rick Grimes, they struggle to stay alive. This being a horror comic it does contain strong language and situations and thus is for adults only. his collects issues seven to twelve of the comic. All together as one long narrative with no breaks between any of them. And with a short afterword from actor Simon Pegg at the end. This volume might work as a jumping on point, but you are probably better off starting with the first one. Quite a lot happens over the course of the six issues in this volume. It begins with a flashback to a moment in time that has had consequences for Rick's wife. And the couple struggle with the choices that result from this. That's not their only problem. The group has to stay alive. Find food and shelter. And decide whether or not to trust any other survivors they meet. Especially those who might have a different way of dealing with their situation. They have to come to terms with the fact that the way of life they knew has gone. And may or not come back. And they have to deal with grief. Something everyone handles in a different way. This is thus the best kind of speculative fiction because as it forces it's characters to consider those things, it forces the reader to do the same. You will also find sections that get the adrenalin going as they have close encounters with the undead. The volume ends with a surprise discovery that should lead to interesting events in volume three. The first volume was a good start. This is even better. Things are moving along very nicely now, and this should make you very eager to find what happens next.

Great read.
This comic is exactly what drew me into the TV show the chronical of their lives ... how it all unfolds. 🧡

Rick and Co. On the run!!
Hot on the heels of volume 1, the action of volume 2 picks right up where the first ended. The shift in tone as the group start to think in terms of flight, not fight brings new problems. Certain characters who, until this point had been relegated to secondary players get a little more room to manoeuvre, a particular favourite being the seemingly rudderless, yet streetwise Glenn, whose cavalier motives become slightly clearer in this edition. Without giving too much away, this part sees Rick,Lori and the rest of the group strike out for safe refuge. As is the case with Kirkman's style,it is the human elements of the plot that take precedence here, the necessity of a safe home, food, love e.t.c. The undead are more often than not the spur to throw into sharp relief what happens to the mind and body if these things are absent. The pacing of this part doesn't let up, as per the previous edition and though there were odd sections where it seemed like a moment to reflect on events might not have gone amiss, I cannot deny that it gripped my attention like one of the walking dead!! That said, I still cannot wait to see how things progress into parts 3 and beyond, with twists and turns on the horizon no doubt.

I love the illustration style. The story following on from book 1, is just as compelling as the first. I hate myself for reading it so fast, but its hard to put down. I may have to read it again. Looking forward to reading book 3, 4, 5 ... and the others soon. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the WALKING DEAD tv series. The previous book. Or any fans of the Zombie Horror Genre.

Like many readers, I've been an on again/off again comicbook fan for many years... In the last couple of years (since the year 2000) I've returned to the fold, this time taking advantage of the many top-quality graphic novels out there, and Robert Kirkman's "Walking Dead" was one of the titles most frequently recommended to me since I started this reading spree. It lives up to the hype. I just finished reading books 1-4, which collect the first twenty-four issues of the comic, and man, I can't wait for book #5 to come out. The series tells the story of a guy named Rick, a small-town cop and self-described Barney Fife who wakes up from a hospital stay to find the world changed around him -- it's zombie time, but zombie time with twist. The twist is that, unlike all the movies and TV shows we've all seen, "The Walking Dead" has a much longer, open-ended story arc -- Kirkman and co. don't have to wrap things up in a tidy, two-hour package, so there is space for the story to unfold at its own pace, with character development that's more prolonged and in-depth than the usual zombie flick allows. By the end of Book 4, the crisis has lasted about a year and Rick and his band of survivors are about twelve strong, having lost about an equal number of family and friends over the course of the story. It's a taut, grim, reflective plot line that keeps your interest and compels you to read. I, for one, hope this isn't just another one of those neat B&W comix that kind of fizzle out, but rather that Kirkman really gets the chance to do what he says he wants to do, and follow Rick's saga as far as he can. Anyway, I'm hooked. As long as he keeps writing this series, I'll be first in line to buy it. [copyright joesixpack @ slipcue.com ]

Fan des Walking Dead de la première heure, je continue à les dévorer comme au début, contrairement à la série qui m'a déçue. Les premiers volumes se relisent avec nostalgie :-)
