Is this similar to GeoSafari of the 90's?

Yes, we actually took part in designing and production of the GeoSafari in the 90's for EI. This is our revised version, except its for 1 or 2 players instead.

If I buy one of each for my grandchildren, are the cards interchangeable?

Connectrix cards will only work with Connectrix. Connectrix Junior cards will only work with Connectrix Junior.

Connectrix or connectrix jr? I have a 2, 6, and 8 year old

That's a tough one, Connectrix is suggested at a minimum of 6+, but can be rather difficult on some cards that even adults won't know the answers too. Connectrix Jr. is more for around 3 to 8, not for the 2 yet though, but the 8 year old may find most of the cards easy.

would this be too young for an advanced 7 year old?

A 7 yr. old child will be able to use this.
