PowerBee ® Solar Ray Solar Shed Light 48 Superbright led's Motion Activated Mains equivalent for your garden shed, garage or outbuilding

I was so impressed with this item that I purchased another as a gift. I have it set up in my shed, with the solar panel mounted outside on a south-facing wall. It gives plenty of light for a 6ft x 8ft shed, and activates quickly when I open the door thanks to the built in motion sensor. Mounting it on the ceiling wasn't convenient for me, so I have it high up on a wall instead.The light activates whenever it detects motion and when the movement stops it stays on for around 2 minutes before it turns off again. This works well for me as it gives me enough time to lock up the shed when I'm done, using the light from the windows to find the keyhole when it's dark. The solar charging system seems to work well, but does provide noticeably less charge during winter months. I've had a couple of occasions where the LEDs have started to go dim, presumably because the battery is running out of charge. I guess your experience may vary depending on how much you use the light and how much sunlight the solar panel receives between activations. I've not had this issue during the summer months when it gives constant light every time I go into the shed. I haven't noticed any 'false activations' (activating when I'm not in the shed, or activating when I go into the shed during daylight) so I'm confident that battery power isn't being wasted when I'm not in the shed.Installation was simple, only requiring a few screws to mount the light itself and the solar panel. The hardest part was finding a way to route the cable from the solar panel outside to the light unit inside without creating excessively large holes. Although the cable itself is fairly thin, the cable plugs into the light unit with a 90 degree connector, meaning that if you're drilling holes into walls and hoping to poke the cable through then you'll need to drill a fairly large hole to fit the connector through. A straight connector would have reduced the size of the hole needed. In a timber shed this is fairly simple to work around, but may be be an issue if drilling through blockwork.The battery is replaceable, which should help add to the units lifespan as the batteries are often the first point of failure on solar charged devices.

I bought this light to fit into a new 8 x 6 shed located near my properties boundary and thus hoped I would not have to run mains cable to light it. After some research this item seemed to have good reviews so I decided to get one. Here is my review.First of all the item is neatly packaged and well presented. The cable length is generous and the fittings are ok, they could be a little better but that's not a real issue as the part outside in the elements is well put together .The instructions are a little sparse but let's face it there is not much to this set up and you can easily work things out. So I connected the items together and as suggested I sat the solar panel in my lounge window facing the East and left for 24 hours.Next test was to set it up again in my lounge just before retiring to bed with the intention of going into the room in the early hours of the morning ( I never sleep well and I am always up many times in the night). This is the result:Picked up my approach from at least six metres as I cam up the hall way into the lounge. The light was very impressive for this relatively small unit. The light is clean and bright. All the time you are moving it does indeed stay on and if you keep still then within about 20 to 30 seconds the light goes out.The shed will be up by this weekend and so I will get it into place to work in its intended environment, but so far within the house as a test light it has performed admirably.I can say that yes I am very pleased so far with this product and I may well buy another if I can think of an application for it. It is great value for money and I love the fact that solar power is free, they haven't managed to tax that yet!All in all I am very satisfied and glad that I made this my choice of a solar light for my new shed.

For the price this is an excellent product. I have installed it in an 8ftx6ft garden shed and the light produced is more than enough to see what is in there. I think it's probably equivalent to a 40w incandescent light bulb. So, probably not the best thing if you use your shed as a workshop and want to work by it. My shed, like most, is mainly a storage space, and this is perfect for that. The automatic on-off motion and light level sensor is brilliant. Basically, you can just install it and leave it on. When it is dark enough the light switches on as soon as you open the door and remains on as long as there is movement in the shed, and then switches off automatically - it is not possible to adjust the length of the on-time, but you just have to move to keep it on and most people in a shed will be moving about, so it should stay on! It is powered by a lithium battery, which is easily replaceable when it gives up the ghost. The light is easy to install. I had it done in 30 mins, which included drilling through the shed wall to route the wire. The only issue I had was that I installed the solar panel in a position where the door opened back onto it, the wind door the door and knocked into it and broke the tabs on the mounting stand for the panel. I don't see this as a fault in the product - purely mine for not installing it in a better place! The problem was easily sorted by sticking the panel to the stand with heavy duty Velcro tape. So, all in all an excellent product. If you want electric lightbulb levels of light, look at Powerbee's more powerful (and expensive) products, but this is more than adequate for an average shed, which is what it is intended for.

I have always been wary of solar powered lights as they seldom give enough output to warrant the hype but these are really the exception. I Installed them outside my back door in the 'conservatory' area where I feed my cats and keep tools and things and I was always tripping over in the evenings and so forth. I installed the set within ten minutes with the solar panel facing west due to the location and I was amazed by the quality of light even from the first night. They give a warm friendly light which is more than enough to work by and the automatic switching on and off is very useful. I like the idea of solar powered things and this is the first time I have came across a practical example which does what is needed. I am getting another set for above the front door entry. Highly recommended.

Pros:1. Once charged the light that this puts out is excellent. It's enough for me to be able to work on a bike in my shed at night.2. It requires very little power to operate.3. The PIR is great - I don't even have to remember to turn it on an off, it just works.4. Comes with mounting screws for brickwork.Cons.1. Only has mounting screws for brickwork. There's no alternative provided.2. The Pivot on the solar panel only goes 90 degrees3. Does not include and rubber hole covers or similar items.Workarounds:1. I used Sticky back velcro to fasten it to the roof of my shed - this works well.2. There's nothing stopping you from mounting the panel upside down, so whilst 90 degrees seems restrictive at first, it's actually OK. You can mount it so that the mounting bracket is at the bottom and the panel will lean back, or put the pivot at the top and the panel will lean down.This gives plenty of options for being able to mount the light in different ways.3. I mention this as you need to get the wire from the light to the solar panel. In my case I need to go through the wall of a metal shed and have to drill a hole. In other cases, I'm sure that it'll be possible to run the cable through existing holes.I'm giving this 5 out of 5 as these issues are more to do with my needs, than the product itself. I'm already thinking about getting a second one of these lights so that I can double the power of the illumination in my shed. I'd highly recommend this for a small shed (5*7)Update: (a year later)Purchased a second one of these to install and boost the overall brightness of the light in the shed. After having problems with the lights falling down (the sticky tape didn't hold properly on hot days) I switched to using powerful magnets to hold the light up to the roof.There is space in the battery box to be able to place the magnets in the space next to the battery. I've taped them to the back of the battery cover. The whole thing is now held neatly in place without the need for tape.I can confirm that one light is a great solution for lighting an area for occasional use. Two of them makes for an area that you can work in for a while. I'd highly recommend this solution.

Having read many other reviews on solar powered shed lights I was unsure whether this one would come up to scratch but it does, a very bright and almost blinding light if you look at it. My shed is 10ftx8ft and it gives plenty of light for doing simple jobs, as soon as I open the door and enter the light comes on and stays on for as long as I am in the shed, I have no idea how long it will run before the battery is discharged but would guess it's well over an hour. The instructions could be a little better but there is little to go wrong. A jack plug fits into the light itself and is permanently connected with a couple of metres of two core wire to the small solar panel. I managed to find a gap in the roof of my apex shed to thread the jack plug inside the shed and plug it into the light. If you cannot do this then you will need to cut the wire to thread it through a smaller gap or hole and reconnect with a connecting block and remembering to make sure you reconnect them the right way around. The light fitting is mounted by measuring the distance between the two slots at the back and fitting two screws that distance apart to the wall or ceiling, the light fitting then can go over the screws and be slid sideways to hold it fast. A surprisingly small solar panel is fitted at 45 deg to a wall fitting to maximise exposure to the sun. If you mount the wall fitting first then it is difficult/impossible to slide the panel onto the fitting when it's flush with the wall, this could have been better designed. You either mount the wall fitting onto a block of wood mounted to the wall so the fitting stands proud and gives you more room to slide the panel on or prefit the solar panel, pre drill the holes for the wall fitting and use a right angled screw driver for the tight space to work in. Other than that I am very pleased with result and the performance, a great automatic light for the price.

Easy to install, bright and works perfectly. I installed this in my shed yesterday. It's quite sensitive to light so only comes on when it's quite dark in the shed (which makes sense). The motion detector works well and switches it on when I open the door. Remarkably good. It will be interesting to see how long it keeps working for! It includes instructions for replacing the Li-ion battery when it wears out, so I take that as a good sign.That was my initial review. After a couple of months it had stopped working as the solar panel stopped producing any current for charging. I dismounted the panel and heard water sloshing about inside it! Unsurprisingly, the connections had corroded away. The panel (mine anyway) was not rainproof which is a pity as it's otherwise well constructed. I recommend smearing something waterproof around the panel to seal it, or mounting it somewhere protected from rain.

I put this light into a new shed at the end of my garden a couple of months ago. Installation was easy, the light has a clip underneath which could be used to hang it on any existing objects. Alternatively there is a mount supplied which screws into the roof of the shed. The thin cable links it to an external solar panel which you can put on the roof of the shed, or attach to the side of the roof.This light is exactly what I was looking for and is powerful enough to fill the shed with light. The light is motion activated so it comes on when I open the shed door and dont have to fumble around in the dark for a light switch. The light stays on while I am in the shed and then turns off a minute or two after closing the door. I am very pleased with this and surprised to get such a good light without having to lay a mains cable across the garden. After years of using various solar lights, this is definitely the best I have found by far. I would recommend this product.
