He was Cannonball Adderley's last piano player until the saxophonist's untimely death in 1975. Firmly rooted in the bop tradition but open to new adventures, he presents this 1977 all-star quartet featuring Japan's trumpet genius Terumasa Hino, free jazz veteran Cecil McBee on bass, and the one and only Tony Williams (ex-Miles Davis, ex-Lifetime). With impressive playing from Galper & Hino supported by a superb rhythm section, the hard-driving modern jazz on ‘Now Hear This’ deserves to be more widely known.
