Great solution to upgrade older laptops! *by R***E on August 20, 2026* I’m tinkering with a couple of older laptops that needed new WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities. I bought this knowing full well it did not officially support Linux; however many of the recent reviews claim it does. Add mine to those now. I used this on two different older laptops onto which I’d installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.3; in both cases it was immediately recognized and activated by the system, with no separate driver required. It does not report which chipset is used; it does identify as a RealTek but doesn’t say which. I suspect it is an RTL8822CE, as this is known to have good compatibility with Linux. For some reason I get different results in one laptop vs. another, which I fully attribute to the laptop itself. I had very similar results with an RTL8823CE internal WiFi card, and also with another USB WiFi dongle I’d purchased and then returned in lieu of this one, in order to also have Bluetooth. One thing I found out is that for some reason, neither it nor my other cards would connect to my regular wifi network, though they would connect to my “guest” network. However I was able to get this and the others to connect by using the (virtual) WPS “button” on my router.
