Abba - Classic Abba - CD Review: MAGNIFICENT ABBA - This budget compilation is a fantastic collection containing some of their top selling singles, and also a selection of their brilliant album tracks which could have easily been hits if they had been released. ‘ Slipping Through My Fingers’ is a beautiful ballad and then we have the rockier sounding ‘Why Did It Have To Be Me’. Then we have the disco sound with ‘If It Wasn’t For The Nights’ one of my personal favourites. The magnificent ‘Eagle’ and the lovely ‘Hasta Manana’ are amongst other treasures here. Just listen to the wonderful voice of Frida on ‘Our Last Summer’ which really showcases what a superb singer she is. ‘The Day Before You Came’ is a real masterpiece which was ignored by the record buying public at the time of release , but perhaps not commercial enough compared to their earlier work. I am an ABBA fanatic and appreciate their gift of excellent pop music. Look forward to the forthcoming release of ‘ABBA The Singles - The First 50 Years’. Odd title really as there certainly won’t be another 50 years? Would have been better to name it ‘The Singles - 50 Years Celebration’. I have ordered my copy as I love every CD that is released, ABBA’s gift of music to the World. We certainly need their music to uplift our spirits even if some of their music is melancholic. This is a fabulous ABBA album with many of their biggest hits on it. It is also beautifully mastered and sounds great. I highly recommend this CD.

Diese CD aus dem Jahr 2008 vereint 18 Hits von ABBA auf einer CD. Angefangen von "Thank you for the music" über "Angeleyes" bis zu dem Ohrwurm "Ring Ring". Im Innenteil der CD befindet sich hinter dem Cover eine kurze Biografie der Band (auf Englisch) und ein sehr schönes Foto der Musikgruppe (in jüngeren Jahren). Ich höre diese CD immer mal wieder gern.

2009年ごろ発売の、ヨーロッパ盤。 先ごろ発表された《40年ぶり・奇蹟の再結成》を祝い、写真のセレクト、ABBAのロゴの位置など、ジャケットのデザインにまずは惚れ込んで“ジャケ買い”と相なった。 しかしよく見ると「ダンシング・クイーン」も「マンマ・ミーア（ママ・ミア）」も「S.O.S.」も「恋のウォータールー」も「チキチータ」も入っていない、謎の選曲。 本来であれば「まずはビギナーに聴いてもらいたい曲」が、ことごとく外されているのだ。 それでも「ザ・ウィナー」「悲しきフェルナンド」「エンジェルアイズ」「イーグル（シングル・ヴァージョン）」「ザ・ウェイ・オールド・フレンズ・ドゥ」「落葉のメロディ」などなど、 いい曲は揃っており、ビギナー向きではないにせよ、聴きごたえは十分にあると思う。音質もまずまず。 主にABBAの歩みやその及ぼした影響について記した、英文の解説つき。 このコンピレーションや、『ABBA 40/40』など他の手持ちのアルバムを聴きながら、ABBAの４人に『オカエリナサイ』を言う日を、いまは心静かに待ちたいと思っている。
