Which do people prefer, top or front opening?** A: One can lift the top too but have to be careful not to break the bulb. The door in the front is really practical **Q: Could I use this to make bacon Or is the process totally different?** A: I suppose you can use it to dry any red meat. You would end up with some form of cured pork, whether it’s anything like bacon, who knows. Also when curing pork it’s recommended to freeze the meat for min 2 weeks before hanging to kill any tapeworm infestation. **Q: Could this be supplied with a screw cap bulb fitting so I could use a ceramic heating bulb instead** A: Hi There. The Makers are not designed to be used with a Heat lamp. They are designed to be used with a 40W Candle or Golf Ball Type incandescant light bulb. You can obtain an adapter online that will convert the Bayonet Fitting (BC22) to a E27 Screw fitting, you can then use the 40W screw type fitting bulb as well as the 40W bayonet Bulb.. They will also work with a 25W light Bulb. We do not recommend that any heat lamp is used. **Q: Can you tell me the internal temperature of the maker while in use with the 40w bulb...?** A: Hi there Drying Temperature is low and between 25 to 30 Degrees, the average is 25 Degrees, this will vary according the the ambient temperature of the room as well. Warmth is requred and not heat, as this is a drying and not cooking process.
