The Queen of Your Kitchen
I would like to apologize to my arms for ever making them knead dough by hand. This is not a mixer. It is a war machine disguised as a baking tool. I have fed it bread dough so dense it could double as a medieval weapon. It did not struggle. It did not hesitate. It rotated with the confidence of something that knows it is stronger than me. Cake batter? Silky. Cookie dough? Obliterated. 6lbs of potatoes? It barely considers it cardio. And the bowl-lift mechanism? Dramatic. Industrial. Theatrical. When you lift the bowl up into position it feels like you’re preparing for launch. I almost expect dramatic music and a countdown. It’s heavy. It’s sturdy. It does not scoot across the counter like lesser appliances. You will choose its spot wisely because once it’s there, it lives there now. This is not a “tuck it into a cabinet” kind of mixer. This is a permanent kitchen resident with strong opinions. The kitchen is no longer yours. It belongs to the Kitchenaid. If you bake occasionally, this might be overkill. If you bake regularly, cook in bulk, meal prep, shred meat, or want to own an appliance that emits chaotic domestic power and could take over your house, this is your machine. Five stars. Ten if I could. I welcome my countertop overlord.

I Cannot Recommend this Mixer
I purchased this KitchenAid 7-quart mixer, in contour silver, at a sale price of $549. It stopped working about 3 minutes into mixing icing, only the second time I used it. Just STOPPED. I followed all of the troubleshooting guidelines, however, it still did not work. I checked my breaker, plugged it into different outlets, kept it unplugged for 30 minutes….all to no avail. There was no smell when it stopped. It wasn’t warm. I was just flabbergasted when it “quit”. I was so excited to be able to finally get this mixer. I had dreamed of having one for at least 20 years. I didn’t even get to use it for the tough jobs so many people brag about! I know this sounds melodramatic, but my dreams were sure shattered. I began the return process through Amazon. I saw an option of returning the defective mixer, and replacing it with another, same make and model. However, Amazon could not fulfill the request (no reason given) after I selected the option, probably because the mixer is no longer on sale. I will say, however, that the return process is seeming relatively easy. Luckily I had kept my box! FedEx will be picking it up at no (further!) cost to me. Packing the mixer back up was a beast of a job, but with my husband’s assistance, we were able to do it. As of right now, I am not sure I am going to order another one. I don’t want to go through that emotional turmoil again. I had been in the middle of making icing for my granddaughter’s birthday cake. Thank goodness my old, trusty Sunbeam Mixmaster got me through the remaining mixing. I did not review the ratings on this model before I purchased it because the KitchenAid (mixers) has always had such an outstanding reputation. I know people who have had their mixers for 25 years and they are still working perfectly. But now that I’ve had an opportunity to review the feedback from others on this particular model, I see that I am not the only one who had problems. It seems there are issues with the durability of the 7 quart mixer in general—many, many with this same exact problem. I’m not sure if it is just the batch that Amazon got or if other retailers have lemons too, but KitchenAid needs to do better. This was a tough disappointment. I was so excited when I received this beautiful mixer that I had dreamed of for so, so long. I can’t recommend a product that failed, therefore, my rating reflects that. This mixer failed during one of the easiest tasks possible for any mixer, let alone one that costs upward of $550.

Nice mixer with many options
I recently had to replace my old 6 qt KitchenAid. I was very leery with some of the reviews I'd seen with the new mixers, however, I was pleasantly surprised with effectiveness of the machine. It has a great capacity and is way quieter than my previous KitchenAid. I love the ability to utilize the accessories I already have and the flexibility to add other new ones. The only downside is that there is a slight defect in the enamel paint job on the base, which doesn't impact the functionality, and I can live with it.
