You still have to climb up to release the clamp (rendering it pointless as the idea is to avoid having to do that) when released it suddenly drops down which damaged the bracket it was hanging from in the trial. Although you can winch it up, which is a bit of a work out, you will have to keep climbing up once each time you sort out your hanging plants. (Tried it at the bottom, same problem). I was expecting it to release quickly but this is instant so I know, for many people this will just end up ripping out plasterboard or rawl plugs in the wall. Good idea, just doesn’t work in practise. I'd use something beefier. The pulley housings are plastic. They are fine within their specified load rating. **Q: Is the end of the rope tied in a knot around the metal hook piece at the end, or crimped with a piece of metal to make a loop for the hook?** A: The carabiner opens to affix the pulley system to the object you’re lifting/securing. One end is affixed to an immoveable object while the other end is affixed to your moveable load. The stainless steel hook (carabiner) opens to accommodate a ring or whatever to attach it to the pulley system. For the 1/8” systems, the snap latch in the carabiner will open wide enough to slip probably a 1/4” rope through the opening. Or you may thread the rope through the opening. The latch is useful when attaching to a larger rope or a 1/4” or smaller ring. In the tie down mode both ends are immoveable, and the ratchet makes the line taut to hold whatever is under the line is secured. VBNE1? **Q: will these work with bird feeders?** A: They sure will. As long as your feeder is able to hang in balance on 1 line or has multiple attachment points to keep it stable. **Q: Can I replace the rope with one of my own length** A: Yes.
