I am updating this persons review now in 2020, and now again in 2025. [Thermo Pac], a military vendor out of Georgia, was supplying these in regular cheese, jalepeno cheese, and cheese bacon in Mre's and was the delicious cheese spreads that troops have coveted and loved for years. In 2017, the U.S. military switched vendors , to [Gamay], then also added [Welcome dairy llc] out of Wisconsin, another government mre supply vendor who now supply the Mre regular and jalapeno cheese packets to the military that Thermo Pac used to make and supply in these two flavors. The complaints online are valid from troops and civilians alike. The Gamay & Welcome dairy llc regular and jalepeno cheese spreads are a completely different taste and texture and like a bright yellow cheeze whiz which some people may or may not like. This is not the same oily, orangy, thick , wonderful tasting cheese packets that soldiers who served will remember living on this. Leave it to the government to screw up a good thing. I myself have bought these new ones by Gamay and Welcome dairy and confirmed this as swell that these do in fact not taste the same or as the good ol Thermo Pac regular and jalepeno 1.5 oz cheese spreads in Mre's we had for years. . Also the government made them change the size of these from 1.5 oz down to 1.0 oz for ALL CHEESE spreads in a effort to reduce troop calories.. There is still a single cheese spread being made by Thermo Pac supplied to military, and they only make it in the bacon cheese. I can barely taste the bacon, but it is there and it tastes like the same old wonderful regular cheese spread because that is exactly what it is. This is the only way to as of right now get that same old great tasting cheese. These are the real deal.

These are individual squeezable packets and are great for take-alongs. Good cheesy bacon smoky flavor and are especially tasty on buttery crackers.

- The individual packs say "thermo pac llc, Stone Mountain, GA" but it's not clear if that's origin or just packaging - The expiry date is coded. That annoys me. - "Tear here" arrows but I'll be dern if I can tear it. Had to cut open I'm not going to be buying these again. As a camper and prepper, I need to know expiration dates. As a consumer in general, I don't trust coded dates. Ok on to the product itself. The bacon is little tiny bits, not just added bacon flavor. It's not a strong cheese flavor but it's recognizable. I got no bacon flavor at all but I still enjoyed nibbling on the bits. Kind of like I enjoy strawberry seeds. The thing is, the final flavor note is sort of smoky and it lasts so long I have to classify it as an aftertaste - and I really liked it. I did not care for the mouth feel while swallowing. It had a bit of an oily quality to it. The lingering flavor, however, was good. My rating is based on flavor/texture only. I haven't had the chance to try this yet but I look forward to it. Cheese with bacon - what's not to like? If it's anything like the regular Cheddar cheese spread then it probably has a good flavor and is easy to use. It's a great item to have in your camping or emergency supplies.

Tasty snack for on the go during hikes and camping. Durable packaging and will last for years. Just bring crackers or use this as an addition condiment on a main meal. This can be slightly heated to be a melted cheese topping or nacho cheese. Great stuff and no this does not give you bubble gut or the urge to go #2.
