A nice little board
A nice little board which is just what I needed to draw up small projects for the home and garden. The stand places the board at a comfortable angle to work on and has plastic covered feet to protect the table top. It folds away neatly and acts as a carrying handle. The board itself is light but flat and stable. The rule is a little flimsy but OK if used with a degree of care. It would have been nice to have the rule quickly detachable but sadly it isnt, however the wire parallel motion is smooth and seems reasonably robust. As an ex design engineer I can recommend this board for the occasional use on DIY projects and hobbies.

Blundell Harling A2 Challenge drawing board
This is a great little board for the money. It all works easily. The non-slip feet are great allowing me to perch this right on the edge of my table. I used masking tape to keep the paper attached as it does the job for me, athough I'm sure you can pick up clips to keep the paper in place. The angle is ok (15 degree), although I would liked it to have been higher. As I dont own a bar stool to clearly see the top end of the drawing. I easily rectified this problem by using my small plastic step stool! I placed the step stool on the table under the legs which gave me a 60 degree angle...fabulous!!! With a little bit of improvisation I gained a good little work horse...worth every penny!! If I were to ask for one thing from the manufacturer it would be extendable legs please :-)

Perfect
Literally perfect, it's the same one that we use at uni, so when I found it for this price I was over the moon, I'd heard they are usually £70 ish from other places! I had previously ordered a Bertram drawing board but I accidentally got the smaller size and I'm really glad because after sending it back I got this and it's MUCH better quality for only a few pounds more! The parallel motion is great quallity because on the Bertram drawing board it was simply nylon string type material but the Blundell and Harling board has a proper wire one that isn't going to stretch or snag on anything. It arrived really quickly! I can also highly recommend getting a set of clips for the drawing board as they are easier to use that something like masking tape which might get stuck under the ruler which is thankfully quite difficult to remove. Couldn't be happier

excellent value for a beginner or student!
Just received this item, am very pleased with it so far. Haven't actually used it yet except to test it out, but it seems to be almost identical to ones I've used before, with the handle and stand at a set angle. And it's much cheaper than the average price too! The only things I would warn about: The parallel motion does not reach the very top or the very bottom, leaving about an inch on both top and bottom that can't really be used. Secondly, the parallel motion doesn't have adjustments so that the ruler can be fixed if it becomes.. not parallel. But then again, I'm pretty sure this is because these cross-wire style parallel motions stay parallel constantly, and can't fall out of place. It's just different to ones I've used before with parts that can be tightened and loosened to readjust the ruler if needed. Apart from the above two points, everything about this is good value and perfect. For my uses, the issue with the ruler not reaching the very top or very bottom is minor, I can live with it. And I'm sure anyone else looking for a basic parallel motion board will be able to cope with it too, especially at this price! I will update this review if I find any problems in the future.

I'm really glad I bought it though
I'm an architecture student and I need to be able to finish A2 drawings at home. This was the cheapest A2 board I could find that would arrive quickly enough. I wasn't expecting much from it, especially after reading some of the reviews suggesting the parallel motion isn't very parallel. I'm really glad I bought it though, as it's actually great. The drawing surface is only slightly larger than A2 paper, the boards we use in school are much bigger, but there's more than enough room to tape a sheet on and draw. The parallel motion moves easily up and down, and stays where I leave it. It does feel a bit loose but it only moves away from the board and back again, it remains parallel. The stand is really useful, doubling as a handle so you can easily move and carry the board. It makes a comfortable angle for sitting at a desk or table and drawing. The board is very stable and doesn't wobble at all. It's light enough to carry out to the car and back very easily so I can take it with me to school or work. The only downside I can think of is that it takes up a lot of desk space when in use, so I have to move my computer out of the way. This is obviously not a failing on the part of the board though. I really like it.

Flimsy rule
The board is made from good materials; i.e. nice smooth melamine with good edging and strong solid-feeling metal legs, but the sliding rule has a bit of lateral play in it, about 1.5mm in fact. This isn't a huge concern, as it can be quite easily fixed by taking up the slack with a fold of paper or card wedged between it and the side of the board. When I received mine, some of the increment marks on the rule had been rubbed off slightly so that they didn't quite reach to the edge. Again, not a huge concern. The rule stays square to the board at 90 degrees as it should do, which is the main thing. All in all, this is a good product for the money, but obviously aimed at the student rather than the professional. Also, make sure your desk is big enough to accommodate it! It need a minimum of about 480mm top to bottom for using it flat and about 530mm if you want to use the legs. It also needs a mimimum of about 660mm of width.

can't go wrong with this as your first drawing board.
Brilliant as a starter drawing board. does the hob really well. the feet mechanism with built in carry handle is really useful. Would recommend for those who do not need absolute precision as the ruler mechanism has slight play in it, this is because it uses a cable slider system. Other than that I have been really pleased with this drawing board
