Did the job!
Being new to gardening, I was very disheartened to find that grubs had killed almost all my potted heucheras! After cleaning up the mess, I treated the leftover pots and a large trellis with this solution. Very easy to use, safe to pets and wildlife, which I appreciated a lot. My surviving heuchera is now blooming as are the other plants in my pots! Will order more to do another round next autumn, just to be sure. Haven't seen a single grub since so very effective!

Read the instructions carefully.
After another find of Vine Weevils, this time in my strawberry raised bed, action was required. Nematodes seemed to be the answer as they only target the vine weevil grubs and no other creatures are harmed. I placed an order which arrived before the expected timeline, well packaged. Id previously read that if not being used immediately, to refrigerate them, which I did untill I was ready to use . I didn't open the package immediately but knew they were to be mixed with water when just about to use . Once opening the package and reading the instructions, I realised that the weather conditions weren't suitable. Luckily the use by date gave enough time for the forecast rain to come. The film in the actual container was fiddly to open but if you carefully read and follow the instructions, everything else was quite straightforward. I don't know yet if/ how effective the nematodes are but I expect another application will be required in a few months.

Gets rid of a nasty pest
Vine weevils are not the easiest to get rid of, particularly on food crops such as strawberries in containers. All container plants seem to be at risk. The first sign is usually poor or no growth in spring and investigation finds plants with little or no root and white grubs. With effective chemical treatments usually unsafe for food plants one solution was to dig plants up, remove all soil and grubs, wash the roots, and replant in clean soil, which sets back the plants for weeks. The use of nematodes is simpler. Water them in and let them do their work eliminating the grubs. It is a simple and effective solution, chemical free, ecologically sound and perfectly safe which seems to work well. The supplied nematodes will only attack the grubs not the plants . . . the plants will have their own nematodes! If nematodes are new to you they are the most numerous species on the planet with an estimated 60 billion for each human and can be found everywhere and in everything, including each of us.
