App isn't very good
I was really excited about this smart lock. It was easy to install and worked really well with my existing door lock. Unfortunately, after I paired the lock the app on my phone, things went downhill. The lock did not show up as a device on the app. Trying to repair it, the app said it was already associated with my account. I tried to reach tech support, which wasn't easy as they don't have reasonable US hours. I was able to chat with someone, but they couldn't help. Reinstalled the app, tried everything. And the dumbest thing is that there is no way to factory reset the hardware... without the app. To factory reset the hardware, you must delete it from the app. But the device wasn't listed. Round and round we go. The tech support person asked me to submit a ticket through the app, which I did. The next day they told me to update to v8.5 of the app (I was on 8.4), but alas there was no version 8.5 in the Google app store. Two days later finally it showed up. I updated, but nothing changed. Still no device. Still says it's already paired with my account. I returned the product. Terrible support, no factory reset for the hardware, and a very buggy/unreliable app means this is a pass. I gave it two stars only because it might work for some people, and then it might be solid. But for me, a big fail.

It's OK when it's the only option for your particular situation.
We live in a condo where we can't change the appearance of the outside of our doors. So anything has to be done inside. And we have those fancy door knobs where the deadbolt and door handle are connected internally so you can unlock both just by opening the door. The physicality of the existing handle and lockset limits what can be used. Can't bolt on one of the existing ones like August onto the deadbolt because of the cover plate, so you need something like this to stick to the door to physically turn the deadbolt knob. It works in my situation but looks a little frankenstein. The good news is that with the hub it's now part of our Apple Home ecosystem and can be locked and unlocked remotely even from around the world. Edit Feb 2025: Seller contacted me and offered to refund the purchase price of this item because it didn't work out for me, even after the Amazon return period had ended. I took them up on their offer. They issued the refund. So 5 stars for the seller for service after the sale for sure. I am not inclined to change the star rating of the PRODUCT because of what the seller did for me, it's still a good option in specific circumstances and, visually, is not as elegant or pleasing as competing offerings which I could have used had my situation been different. So thank you for the refund, but I'm not going to lie and say that the product deserves 5 stars.

Not worth the money
If you want a smart lock, save your money and buy something better. I’ve had this for a few months now - purchased so I could check the door lock status from my bed instead of getting up. Set up was fairly simple, and things were fine for a while. First issue was that the batteries that came with the device died about a month into my ownership. No big deal, I figured they might have been in the lock for a while, so maybe they were a little old. When I only used the lock to monitor the door status, it was great. Now that it’s warming up, I try to use the lock when I take my dog for a walk so I don’t have to carry my full key ring, and there are problems. The app no longer recognizes the change in lock status - it always says the door is locked, whether unlocked by key or by app. But the bigger problem is that every time I unlock from the app, the lock jams and can’t or won’t reset. EVERY TIME. I have to manually reset the lock once I’m inside, and after fixing the jam and locking the door, the lock will unlock itself. It’s as if the bot is still trying to clear the jam. Not good. You also can’t reset the lock from the outside with the key, the lock won’t turn when the SwitchBot is jammed. It’s to the point that I only unlock from the app when I know I’m going to have my hands too full to fumble with my keys. Sucks because I was looking forward to integrating the SwitchBot curtain openers and blind tilts into my ecosystem. Seems like their products end up being more trouble than they’re worth.

Always Jams, Batteries Dead in a Week
Let me start by saying that I love SwitchBot products and have a number of them. This one however is not their best. First off, the whole thing is plastic not metal like it appears in the photos. It works well for locking my door but every time it unlocks the door fine it actually goes into jam mode even though it unlocked the door successfully from what I can tell. Then there’s the NFC sticker that you’re supposed to be able to tap your phone on to unlock the door. I have to tap my iPhone like 5-10 times on the sticker to get the notification to pop up to unlock the door. And finally, after a week of use it’s now alerting me that the battery is almost dead and might not have enough energy to unlock the door. It’s likely been used no more than 5-10 times a day. Seriously considering returning this thing, it’s not been simplifying my life but rather adding complications to it.

Switchbot Over The Original Lock
This product is lightweight and effective. I chose the silver this time. Two years age I purchased the black Switchbot Lock. Which is a heavier version. Theres nothing made that is 1000% Yet this is the best thing as of now I have come across.

Much better smart lock compare to my Sesame Lock.
I have been using smart locks for years and this is my 3 lock and 2nd mortise lockset lock. This has a better feel and control compared to other brands such as Sesame Lock. The motor is smooth and has better tolerance to lock alignment. it uses 2 CR123A batteries in parallel which means it is only 3volt and has twice the runtime compared to most Series Battery 6Volt setup I wish for more software advancement on the app such as autounlock when near bt range.
