They're fine for these purposes, though they might be too sheer to wear alone. I liked that these tanks were made of 95% polyester (5% spandex) instead of the what most of the other tanks I looked at were made from—a newer fabric known to release toxins that I figured could irritate my sensitive skin. It was a challenge to figure out what size to get. I usually wear a small or size 6 but got large in these and am happy with the fit. They are not snug but they're form-fitting enough that they don't crumple under another layer of clothing, and the length is good (I’m 5'6.5). Before settling on the large size, I tried on old tanks to see how various sizes fit. I also looked up several different tanks on Amazon, consulted their size charts for the bust and length measurements, and compared the measurements to those given for these tanks.
