Don't think you're going to get one (or more) of the sacks you've seen on YouTube! You ain't! It's sold by weight...which is fine, if you know how much this stuff weighs.... which you only find out once you buy it .... It's heavy, ergo... the bags are small, very small. THIS is why they don't say "covers up to.... X square feet" The bag you get (I blew £66 on two) is roughly about the size of two coke cans. Making this stuff yourself isn't rocket science, just a bit of a faff. I'm going to be testing batches and will YouTube my own review once I've matched this for temp. Ultimately you're going to spend more on this, than you did the forge itself. Dear Mr Volcano..... Nobody likes getting ripped off.

This is great stuff to treat your forge with. After watching some you tube videos how to apply ( which were incorrect ) for the most part. Go to Mr Volcanos web site and download the instructions on how to mix and apply the Satanite. After following there instructions to the letter I got a nice fairly smooth finish and after baking off the moisture as per instructions I had no cracks and now the inside of my forge looks and operates to perfection. It’s a two step process to mix with exact proportions so your final result is perfect. Just be sure to use Ridgidizer before applying the Satanite. Again get the instructions from Mr Valcano on proper way to apply.

There's a ton of material in this. Wear a respirator or mask when opening up the bag. I'd say from the point you open the shipping plastic to avoid breathing in any of this dust that might have leaked out Safety glasses are also highly recommended. Feels like I barely used any to coat the forge. Seems to hold up well, and only noticed slight chipping in cracks with proper preparation. You need to start with rigidizer for best results and pay attention to the air-dry cure times. Mix into a almost clay like consistency for application. The trick i found was just to add water slowly to the powder until I got it where I wanted it to be. There are a few YouTube videos out there that can help with this if you need it. Use plastic spoon/fork and plastic bowl that you don't mind not using again for anything else but satanite. Once dry after 24hrs or so, you'll need to fire the forge for a few short intervals to remove moisture and bake the clay to fully harden before use. Any cracks and chips can be gone over again and filled in with a bit more satanite. You have enough to do a bunch of forges many times over.
