## Questions & Answers

**Q: Which size is about the same as a mug?**
A: The 0.35l is the perfect size for a cup of tea or coffee

**Q: When I opened the one of the glasses is smashed, what are my options re getting it replaced?**
A: I had the same; contacted Amazon and got a full refund and could keep the remaining 5 glasses.

**Q: How tall are these glasses?**
A: 9cm

**Q: Is the 0.35l the best size for general use? I drink mainly cappuccino and lattes, as well as tea.**
A: It depends how large you like your coffees. 0.35L, or 350ml, is approximately 12 fl.oz, which is what you'll get in most coffee shops if you ask for regular. Some people, including me, often ask for large, but what you then get varies. It could be 16 fl.oz, even 18 fl.oz.

Then, how much espresso is in there? It rather depends where you are. In the US and much of Europe, you'll get 1 fl.oz (30ml), though the Italian style uses a different size, and even the size I mentioned depends on the barista. In the UK, for instance, a rough guide is around 18g of coffee grinds going in, and around a 2:1 ratio coming out, so 35-40ml of espresso, but it varies by barista, and very much accordig to the beans used. Italians probably regard this as a double .... and a travesty. But if you order a "large" coffee in the UK, you'll probably get a 16 oz or even 18 oz cup, with 16 oz being around 450 m l, i.e. larger than these glasses.

But what's in it? A double (i.e. 30ml) or 60ml shot of espresso? A lot more milk? Espresso topped up with some water, Americano-style, and then finished off with milk? It depends who makes it.

One more thing. If intended for latte art, a lower, wider and rounded cup makes it much easier to 'prepare the canvas'. i.e. build the coffee/milk base before you start to do the art, because they make the swirling/mixing easier. It's possible in taller glass, but harder. Also, they may not fit under the portafilter, so you end up making the espresso in one glass, pre-warming another cup, and transferring.

Surprisingly, there are few generally accepted rules in this, and even "espresso" isn't universally defined. "Italian espresso" is, and there's a list of specificaitons for that, but it's not what is commonly served outside of Italy. Which is a shame, the original espresso method being an Italian development in the first place.

Confusing, isn't it?
