Mr Beams MB380 Ultra Bright Spotlight, White

An outdoor spotlight with motion sensing, no wires and no fuss that does the job it was purchased for. In fact so good another was purchased. Update April 2016 The original purchase has been going strong since purchased in a lightning deal back in 2014. The reason for the original purchases was that I wanted a wireless spotlight. By way of a refresher :- - easy to install - takes D cell batteries, normal or rechargeable. - weather proof - bright - motion sensor activated I have read other commenting on aspects such as taking in water, not lasting, motion sensor not activating etc etc but my ones continue to work perfectly well. The only time it has ever become a little temperamental was when the battery was nearly empty. Changing the battery rectified and Mr Beams worked as it should. I liked this product when I originally bought it and still like it now. I have no hesitation in recommending.

I'm really pleased with this light. It does exactly what it says does & does it very well. The unit is well made - the plastic is good, 'heavy' plastic & feels like it will last. The battery compartment opens & closes easily, has two reassurung 'clicks' when in place. The two adjusters for the direction of the light are also well designed & easy to operate. The movement detection is sensitive, it stays on constantly as long as there's movement. The light goes off after about 20-30 seconds after the last movement detected. I have also bought rechargeable batteries to go in this to avoid batteries going to landfill & also as it is cheaper to run the light in the long term. I have a 'garage' (IE overlarge old shed type outbuilding!) approx 12 feet wide, 25-30 ft long & this light will provide good light in this space. The edges are less well light, but the main circle of light is large & covers a great area. The alternative for me was to get mains electricity installed which would have cost IRO £450 as there was thick concrete between the house & garage, which the electrician would have needed to dig a deep trench in to lay the cable, etc etc. This light is good enough for my occassional forays into the garage in winter months to avoid that bill! I just need enough light to get my bike in & out or to be able to pop in & fetch something. I'm really pleased with this unit & would definately recommend it.

Its a bit hit and miss but your safe with Amazon as they will refund. I now have 6 of these working from 8. Two were returned, free of charge, as they did not work out of the box (either stayed on permanently or sensors did not work - one of the items looked like it previously owned!). 2 are in the garden (they are storm proof), 1 in conservatory, 1 in the under stair cupboard, and 2 on the stairs (in case kids get up in the night). They give excellent coverage and battery life (I use rechargeable) is good to fair. The lights in the garden tend to last for 4 to 6 weeks, one of the lights (on the first floor landing) lasts about a week because every time someone past it comes on, about 200-300 trips a day (due to first floor landing having no natural light and its a town house and the lounge is on the first floor and it provides access to the 2nd floor). Sensors are good but cant be adjusted - i find they work perfectly at the level they are set on. My only issue is that the light could have done with a proper ball joint - if you turn it to the left the light rotates (so if you have it facing completely to the left the two LEDs are aligned vertically). So you cant really get it facing where you want it. Hopefully the photos I attached make this easier to understand. I have had these for about 4 months now.

Bought these originally because they are battery powered and saved running mains electric supply to driveway. We are so pleased with the initial kit of 3 that we purchased that we have now bought another 3. Battery life is better than we expected and we generally get around 18 months out of a set, however, that may be due to them only staying on for around 10 seconds (so not really suitable for illuminating a working area). This cannot be adjusted, as is normal in a mains powered unit, probably due to it adversely effecting battery life if it were a longer period. They are bright, although as you might expect, not as bright as mains powered units. The sensors have a limited range (also not adjustable) and I find that placing them around 5 metres apart along a driveway gives sufficient illumination from one until the next one illuminates. They appear to be well whether proofed, the first set we bought around 3 years ago are still working well, and are reasonably adjustable in their mounting that should cope with any required position. All-in-all I would have no hesitation in recommending these units to anyone that doesn't wish to go through the cost and/or hassle of installing mains electric cabling.

Firstly the quality is very good it's well made and clearly will be durable, if you use the screws that come with it in wood then pre drill the holes as the heads are quite soft. It has been well thought out so you can achieve pretty well any angle you would need and the rotating parts that it adjusts on have splines so you can lock it off and it won't slip or move. I have mounted mine at the top of an arch over a gate at the end of the garden pointing straight down, we are out in the sticks it is really dark here with no street lights and the steps down are lethal even in daylight, with it mounted this way the PIR picks up movement from about 3 feet away either side of the light and stays on long enough to get down the path which is about 50 feet and the light is surprisingly bright. I got it at a really good price in a flash sale but even the regular price is justified, I can't speak highly enough of this product I was sceptical of it being battery powered but it's not an issue at all, I don't write reviews often and in a world where mediocrity seems the norm how nice to be able to report back on a good product like this.

*** Update after a year *** Came to replace the batteries and found the battery case would no longer clip shut. The springs to ensure the batteries are making firm contact are simply too strong for the retaining clip mechanism. Or vice versa. Can't say for sure as I have no conventional batteries but I reckon the rechargeable batteries are just a fraction bigger and therefore compress the springs more and so overstrain the clips that hold the battery case together. Or simply the plastic clips weaken over time. Solution has been to tape the battery case together. Not ideal but maybe a workaround that will hold *** Original review *** Bought this on an impulse as on a 'deal of the day'. But it was worked well. Motion sensor works perfectly being sensitive enough for when it should activate but does not keep coming on for no apparent reason. The need to keep changing the batteries was a concern but I have used high capacity rechargeable batteries which have been happily working for 2 months on an initial charge. Of course this depends on how often they are triggered but the good news is that the device does not drain the battery requiring me to charge the batteries every week. LEDs are great for power consumption but most people seem to find their light output disappointing but these LEDs are bright enough for the purpose. Sure they are not as bright as halogen floodlights and don't turn night into day but perfectly acceptable.

I have already installed two Mr Beams lights at the front of the house and needed something to replace some solar lights which weren't up to the job. Despite the description saying the light is brown it is black so if you specifically want a brown light you may be disappointed. In the images it looked black and black was what I wanted so all good there. The light is easy to install, I have it installed on a wooden post so no drilling required (it is supplid with scres and wall plugs if you want to install it to brickwork). The base detaches from the main body which eases installation and also allows for the light to be rotated from left to right, this is in addition to the up and down adustment which is on the body of the light. The illumination is good and the sensor appears to be working as it should. This takes 4 D cell batteries, the other 2 Mr Beams I have take 3 D cell and in 2 years I have only changed those batteries once so hopefully these will last for a good period of time. Not the cheapest light but you get what you pay for.

Benötigt man eine leistungsstarke Leuchte mit Bewegungsmelder für Positionen im Außenbereich, an denen kein Stromanschluss zur Verfügung steht, gibt es gar nicht so viele Alternativen, weil die meisten batteriebetrieben Leuchten nicht besonders lichtstark sind. Ich brauchte nämlich für meine Garagenauffahrt eine Beleuchtung mit Bewegungsmelder, habe aber an der vorgesehenen Stelle keinen Stromanschluss zur Verfügung. Durch Zufall bin ich auf diesen batteriebetriebenen LED-Spot mit zwei sehr hellen, leuchtstarken LEDs gestoßen, der mit 4 großen D-Cellen bestückt wird. Der Led-Spot hat ein wegen der großen Batterien relativ großvolumiges hochwertiges wasserdichtes Kunststoffgehäuse und kann somit auch an vor Witterungseinflüssen ungeschützten Stellen montiert werden. Mit den 3 beiliegenden Dübeln und Schrauben war das Teil in wenigen Minuten montiert und funktioniert tadellos. Bewegungsmelder löst zuverlässig aus und gibt dann für ca 20 sec. ein schönes helles Licht. Ich habe den Spot in ca. 2,50 m Höhe an der Wand montiert und leuchte damit die Fläche (ca. 4 qm) vor dem Garagentor gut aus; das ist für eine batteriebetriebene Leuchte super

This light is awesome! I have had this light for about two months now and I love it. I installed it under my porch, and was a little worried it would come on during the day when it is overcast, but No it works great. Even under the porch away from direct sunlight it comes on at the perfect time. I like the design as well. The batteries are well protected from outside elements and will be easy to change when they go out.(I would recommend using good name brand batteries; 1. they last longer and 2. They are less likely to leak in the light.) The distance on the motion detector is great as well. It gets my truck pulling up from about 30 ft. away. The led lights put off a super bright white light. It is very easy on the eyes and easy to see everything in its path. Over all love it.

Fantastic product! Exactly what I was expecting! I needed a light for my back patio where my small BBQ is, and I certainly didn't want to do any electrical work. I screwed this product's base into the side of my house, installed some batteries, and secured the spotlight to the mounting bracket. A minor adjustment to where the light was aimed and it is absolutely PERFECT for my needs! I took a photo in the dead of night showing how perfectly this product lights up my BBQ area, but since I'm editing this review it seems Amazon doesn't allow me to add photos while editing. I'm looking for excuses to buy more of these. It's just so much fun to be able to get outdoor motion-switched lighting wherever you want it.

Ich wollte nicht extra eine Leitung legen. Deshalb entschied ich mir für diese Variante und muß sagen, leicht zu instalieren und klappt super. Der Bewegungsmelder ist sehr empfindlich und geht sehr weit. Ich habe diese Lampe auf meine Garage gesetzt und bei Anbringung schaltete sich die Lampe ein, weil der Wind meine 4 Meter entfernte auf 3,80m Höhe Fahne bewegte. Die Lampe ist nach Montage immer noch um 360 Grad drehbar und auch der Winkel läßt sich verstellen. Das Licht ist ok wenn man bedenkt, dass es eine Batterielampe ist. Reicht um die Einfahrt ausreichend zu beleuchten.
