Andis - UltraEdge steel blade

Exactly what you want in a blade. It arrived well oiled so was ready to fit straight on the clippers. Nice and sharp. Appears to be a high quality steel so should last for years. Easy to change on my Andis clipper so I would assume the same for compatible brands. Can be sent off to be re-sharpened when needed. There are several firms providing this service. Good value for money. Definitely not worth wasting your money on unknown brands when you can purchase the brand preferred by many professional dog groomers, for only a couple of quid more. You only have to look at the high number of poor reviews against the cheap ones to see the sense in buying better. As I expect the cheap blades and clippers are all bought by DIY groomers like me, if they are failing after a couple of months then can only have been used a handful of times. This Andis blade will last for years for us DIY groomers making it good value for money.

The andis blade range are now my go-to brand for the clippers we're using. We've set for both human and animal use, on course curly and straight human hair they work a treat, on fine fluffy (poodle) dog hair they're equally at home (though with the latter, we use FC graded blades, not this unit). Adding a comb attachment these clippers give an even and one pass clip, they take oil and brush up well. Unlike other brands they do not appear to tarnish with oxidization, and can be taken apart (see the screws) for sharpening on a flat grinder, or replacement of the top cutting surface in the set. So you can easily keep the same assembly for your clipper for many hundreds, if not thousands of uses. The cutting distance shown (1.2mm in this case) is always exact, we have 6.3 and 1.2 mm versions and the clip is superb. The fitting of the blade appears to be standard, as we have a different brand clipper to the blades themselves.

Terrible. Used 3x and 2 of the teeth have broken. Not worth the money. Would give zero stars if I could.

I’ve always bought Andis, there the only blades I use but this new design blade I purchased was definitely not the quality as before and for a brand new blade it does not cut well at all and it’s not like they are cheap. I will be looking to use different blades from now on as I cannot afford to waste money on blades that don’t do the job!

These are good blades that can be sharpened which is why I purchased them and not a ceramic blade.

This Andis Ultraedge size 3 3/4 carbon-edged blade Leaves hair 1/2". Yes, I use it on my husband, and it is awesome. I have no idea why anyone would worry about using it on people if they will use it on their pets, but it is great. Makes cutting his hair so much faster. The blade does a lovely cut, no split ends, and it does an excellent job of keeping the hair length even. He likes a kind of "undercut" but not one that is so close the head, so this half-inch distance is perfect. Because it is so easy to use, I can do a five minute touch up any time he wants, instead of cutting it shorter than he wants so it lasts longer, because it takes so long to do it all with scissors. Easy to control, does require working in different directions (moving up the side, moving across) in order to catch all the hairs, and that takes just a bit of practice, but it is easier than I expected. The blade is shaped to be comfortable even used against the skull (rather than the soft parts of a dog). I've tried various plastic clip on trimmer combs, and they are pretty much useless. This works entirely differently than those. Worth it for making it easier to give my husband a trim. Time saved also makes it worth every penny.
