The GEL-KAYANO 28 MK shoe creates a stable step that moves you towards a balanced mindset. The shoe's MONO-SOCK construction comfortably hugs your foot for improved support. To improve stability and responsiveness, we added FF BLAST cushioning to the midsole. It provides a smooth and supportive feel with every step. The trainer's new gel technology ensures a smooth stride, so you can experience a softer landing without losing speed. Review: an excellent workhorse - I've worn the higher end Asics like Kinsei, Kayano and Nimbus so I was a bit hesitant to go for the 'mass' model. Nonetheless, the US$50 price tag was too hard to resist, inclusive of free shipping to Singapore! To be honest, I buy running shoes for two reasons. I'm a regular runner, 3-4 times a week, but not long distance. 6-10 km each time, easy pace. I'm 43 years old, so no longer trying to improve a lot. Just trying to keep healthy and fit enough to enjoy the years ahead with my relatively young children. So the other regular use of my shoes are in the weekends, with jeans or bermudas, or on casual friday at work. So, they have to look good too and be as comfortable for walking as they are for running. Perhaps my expectations were already realistic but I was v pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the fit was immediately. Hey this is as cushy as the more expensive models! Have I been paying too much for 'segmentation' all this while?? It has that nice 'foot glove' feel - snug but not too tight. The neon green turned out to be very nice too. Not garish or 'obiang' but bright and catchy. When I took it for the first run, initially I felt the 'side cushioning' wasn't as stable as the Kayano (19, also bought from desertcart at a great value of US$87!), but that was just for the first minute or two, as I got used to this shoe. After that, the run was pretty much what I'd expect from an Asics - you don't notice the shoe after a while, which is the best compliment you can give to a runner's shoe. Frees your mind to wander, focus on your form, enjoy the morning fresh air and the feeling of being alive. Human beings are naturally relative creatures. Once we get used to something better or more expensive, we only notice the bad things of a more 'regular' product. It was amazing to me that this did not occur with the Gt-2000. In fact, I find myself reaching out for this shoe as often as I do my Kayano or my Saucony Kinvaras (4). Surprisingly, the one that turned out most disappointing, perhaps again because the expectation was the highest due to the price, was the Kinsei (4). Twice (out of perhaps 1-2 dozen times) after 10km runs with the Kinsei, I felt soreness in my feet that bordered on pain. Considering its positioning as the highest end Asics, this was a big letdown. Nonetheless, the design is very creative and I still use those shoes a lot for casual walking. A final word about buying the latest model vs an older one. My view is unequivocal. Buy the older model!! They are much cheaper and unless you are Sebastian Coe, you won't notice the 'advance in technology'!! Most of these brands will discount as much as 40% to clear the older stock, which to me is a great bargain. So why would you pay 60% more (or $30) for the gt 3000 when you can get a perfectly brand new gt 2000 much cheaper? And these shoes wear out in less than a year anyway, when the gt 4000 will appear and your gt 3000 is no longer the latest model? This is one of the best arbitrages in the world, until the shoe makers wise up to this and stop discounting the last to latest models! In the meantime, pick up these great bargains. And happy running!! Review: Give these shoes a chance - they have been fantastic for this overweight plantar-fasciitis challenged runner - I have read review after review about how bad these shoes are. That they are a far cry from the old 2000 series. My supply of 2160s finally ran out, and I have tried other Asics shoes (Kayano, etc, along with other brands), but I have continued to be riddled with injuries due to bad foot mechanics. I have tried various orthopedic inserts (including custom), but for three years have not found a shoe that I feel will keep me from getting injured. Well, I broke down and finally decided to judge the 2000 for myself. I need a slightly wider than average toe box, so I ordered the EEs. Right out of the box, the fit felt great; perfect "snugness." I would suggest "rounding up" on shoe width if you are in doubt, but after putting in some serious miles, my toes are blister-free and I couldn't be happier. I decided to go against the recommendations of the doctors and experts and just wear the shoe without any special inserts. Well, I completed my first 12 mile run in years last night, and aside from sore knees and muscles, my feet are 100% fine. I have not felt free to run without worrying about injury since I had my 2160s, and I could not be happier. The shoe does feel a bit lighter than the old 2000 series, but the cushioning feels 90% the same to me. And that slight reduction in cushioning and weight actually keeps my feet from moving around as much, which I believe results in better mechanics and less injury. Look, my review is just one anecdotal story about a guy who is thrilled with his shoes. But I have run tens of thousands of miles, won my share of local 5K and 10Ks (MANY years and pounds ago!), and completed 8 marathons. So I think my opinion counts for something. If you are looking for a great shoe, I urge you to please just give these a try. Thanks for reading!

Great shoe, a bit tight.
First off I've used just about every asics shoe in this series since 2150 and I generally appreciate the advancements in this model. Light, beautiful and supportive. However this year the shoe runs tighter than past years. I usually wear a standard D width which is perfect but I really needed a 2E this time because they're tight as anything I've used. They do work in a bit bit the tightness is still noticeable. I wear these shoes because I work retail and am on my feet all day and that gets painful in crapoy shoes, or shoes that fit my strange sense of style. Certainly I appreciate that I generally feel better in my back and knees since I've worn these. Just would recommend one higher width than normal and these are good. My wife still prefers the cushion of the Nimbus but for me this series is good. These also seem like the best constructed pair I've had in this series too so far which is good. I've had these shoes for about two months I think.

I like these better than the GT-21xx series -- Your Mileage May Vary
The ASICS GT-21xx series (2100 through 2170) are some of the best-selling running shoes in the world. I have previously had a pair of GT-2120s, two pairs of 2150s, and two pairs of 2170s and really liked them a lot. I am a 50-ish male, about 160 lbs and use them for road running, including several marathons and half-marathons, as well as shorter distances. This is the fourth pair of GT-2000s I've bought in a little over a year(*). The first pair was retired after around 500 running miles, and the second pair is getting close to the 400 mile mark. Pair #3 are my current shoes for long training runs, and I bought pair #4 for the 2014 Boston marathon. ASICS did change a few things on the GT-2000 besides the numbering. I know a lot of 21xx devotees don't like the changes, but I like them a lot. The shoe is a little bit lighter and it has a lower heel, but for me the most noticeable thing is the slightly lower cut around the ankle the scaled-down padding and support in the heel. For me the less bulky heel counter makes the shoes feel even lighter than they are, and also give a much more flexible feel, while still providing good support for a moderate over-pronator like me, and good cushioning in the sole. Maybe I'm just lucky. During the summer of 2012 I worked on improving my form: shortening my stride, increasing my cadence, and landing more mid-sole than I had before. Come autumn 2012 ASICS came out with the GT-2000 and the changes to the shoe seemed to match the changes to my form perfectly. I still need stability control, but not as much support, or really BULK, that I had in my old 2160s. When I put on my 2160s now they feel like blocks. There is one thing I don't like about the GT-2000 compared to the GT-21xx series, and that is the toe box, which is definitely narrower in the GT-2000. The first few months in the GT-2000s I had some issues with squashed toes during/after long runs, especially the 4th toe. Now I find that I can usually avoid that problem if I make sure that my socks are as smooth as possible around my toes, and I don't pull the bottom part of the laces very tight. It works, but I'd rather have a slightly larger toe box. All in all, I think the GT-2000s are a real winner! (*) All of these GT-2000s are the first iteration, which were released in October 2012, not the v2 which was released about a year later.

Love this shoe; wide width (4E) model finally gives me the fit I was looking for.
OK, so I used to run in Asics Gel-1160. That model has basically died, and the GT-1000 and GT-2000 are here as new offerings. Since I couldn't buy the old model anymore, I went to a running store and tried a bunch of things on to test them out. I came away buying a pair of these but there were not perfect. Compared to my old Asics, they are narrower. A fair bit narrower. My last 3 or 4 pairs of runners were all Asics and they all fit just right (standard width models). I had to run in the GT-2000s several times before they didn't hurt my feet anymore; they are still snug but acceptable and my legs feel good running in these. The extra padding at the back of the shoe is nice, feels very comfortable. The had a shoe discount thing going recently on Amazon and so I looked these up here, and turns out that Amazon has some sizes in wide widths (2E or 4E). None of the stores, including big box types and specialty running places, had any on offer when I was shopping around. Gotta love Amazon. With the discount deal I couldn't resist, and order another pair... same size as the ones I already had, but in 4E. When they arrived I put them on and ***SWEET*** they fit perfectly. Not tight at all. Probably a bit roomier than my old Asics that were standard width, but not sloppy feeling. No pinching. This is exactly what I was looking for in the first place! Sadly these now need to stay in the closet until I wear out my standard width shoes... ha. If you don't like the narrower fit on some of the newer Asics look for wide width and enjoy the run!

Asics always equal excellence!
Picked these up to replace my previous Asics running shoes (GT-2170's) which were wearing down. I love 'em! They fit really well and they're nice and wide (since I have slightly wider feet) and comfortable. They seem to give great support and other than some friction issues on long runs (which could be due to one of many factors, other than just the shoes being new), they've worked excellently. Unfortunately the trend in running shoes lately is to make them super fugly and colorful - apparently design techs at Asics flunked out of art school while simultaneously losing their color wheels after being abducted and brain-wiped by Aliens to forget which colors actually go with other colors. How sad. :( Thankfully they make these sharp, classy-looking black shoes that leave my feet looking smart as well as functioning perfectly! It was annoying that this color scheme, which one would think (and hope) would be a more popular style and color combination, wasn't available in local sporting good stores. It would seem that these same stores have also been visited by Aliens when purchasing the selections they wished to stock. How sad (again). Thankfully Amazon had a link to someone who offered these and I'm a very happy owner of them. Great shoes and a great fit! ASICS for life, baby!!!

Great shoe - sizes not reliable!!!
My son tried this shoe at the store in a size 12(D). It could have worked, but was just a tad too small. The store did not have any other sizes (2E, etc), so we bought the same exact shoe from Amazon in a 12(2E). When the shoe arrived it was so tight he could hardly get his foot into the shoe. Thankfully Amazon is awesome, with Prime the replacement was here in two days, a 12.5(4E), fits perfectly. Moral of this story, the sizing at Asiacs is inconsistent, and this is confirmed by other models we tried in-store before choosing the GT-2000!! Now the shoe - price on Amazon is unbeatable!! I got these for $63, in the stores they were $120, and even the "discount" shoe sites didn't have them for less than $90. The shoe has amazing heel support and anti-pronation qualities. The arch support is solid, with little tortional rotation, yet is soft under foot. I've read some of the reviews that were super negative, I don't get it. These shoes are great, and beat the heck out of Nike for build quality and support. Just watch the size and be willing to send it back until you get the right fit!!

Great support and comfort.
I have run in many brands over the last 10 years or so. The past 2 years I have experimented with various models of Asics and have decided they are the best for my somewhat flat feet and great heal cushion. Things I like about Asics and this model in particular: 1. The arch hits in the right place. Saucing, which was my old favorite, did something different and they never seem to hit in the right place. I will say that training for my first full marathon I started experiencing some fatigue in my arches around 16-18 miles into training runs. I was told to try the Kayano. They definitely have more support but for my average distance, I like the price and feel a little more.. 2. My feet are a tad narrow (C width in dress shoes) and these fit perfect. Some running shoes are a bit too wide in the toe box for me (The Kayanos were). 3. Styles. Several colors to chose from without having to wait for next years model. This is an overall great running shoes. Hopefully Asics won't change them too much.

I've bought 3 pairs of these over the last 3 ...
I've bought 3 pairs of these over the last 3 years and they perform well. Only downside is my big toe wears a hole in the top after about a year (or 800 miles...in every pair
