You must tightly scrue the bolts in. I would not go beyond the 8ft for a real tree because of the flexibility in scruing in the bolts into the tree **Q: How does the tree not fall over with this base on? Is it not top heavy??** A: It is a really strong base which holds the tree trunk with bolts so it is very sturdy **Q: Do you actually screw the bolts into the tree ? or just clamp againts the tree ?** A: I clamped it, but very securely. Held it steady for the Christmas period. **Q: wHERE CAN I BUY THE Steel bolts FOR THIS PRODUCT** A: These are steel bolts covered in plastic ! I had a heavy 7 foot tree last year with a thick trunk and had no problems! If they haven't changed the design it should support a reasonable sized tree.
