40m Wall Mounted Fast Reel

Update after 6 years: see the next paragraph for my original review but I thought I’d report in after 6 years regular use. It hangs on the wall 365 days a year at 900 feet up in the Scottish hills enduring the worst of British weather and it’s still going strong: the hose is still in good order and the winding mechanism spins like new - a very good investment indeed! Can't find any fault with this product. Its robust, eay to use and has now hung on the wall for two seasons, rain, hail, snow, direct sunshine, come to no harm and shows no sign of wear. Even the hose still looks new and it,s in and out of the housing two or three times a day in hot weather. We have a very large garden and need a good forty meters to reach all of our hanging baskets, raised beds and so on. Rewinding our 40mtr hose on one of those two-wheel trolley hose reels from fully unwound was actually such a backbreaking chore that for long periods we'd just leave it unwound and lying around. This, of course meant that the hose was in the way of cars manoeuvring around in the yard so it really was, altogether a real pain in the backside. Nowawadays, we simply unwind as much as we need for the job in hand and wind it back in in a jiffy. Even winding it in from fully extended takes no time and hardly any effort at all. This has totally transformed the business of watering plants and washing cars and, importantly, keeping the place tidy. If you need a long hose, get one of these, it'll change your attitude to watering things from a chore to a pleasure.

This hozelock product seems to be very good, and we found it so easy to put together we didnt really need to look at the instructions, a bit of common sense is all you need. it is easy to wind the hose back onto the reel, although as we bought such a long hose it does get a bit heavy to rewind when most of the hose is on the reel. Also as its so long you can get the hose in a bit of a muddle when rewinding if you have extended it fully, and I find its easier to carry most of the hose back to the reel location and then rewind it. This product seems sturdy and its very convenient especially if you want to use a long hose. The roller/guide mechanism underneath works well though if you put the hose too low down on the wall, the roller mechanism is then even lower, and this can make it a bit difficult to extend the hose while you are using it. I would suggest you put it as high up on the wall as you can bearing in mind you have to be able to use the rewind handle, so that the roller/guide mechanism is as high up as you can get it. I also thought it was very good value for the money, and delivery was quick.

I was a little reluctant to purchase a new Hozelock Wall Mounted Hoze Reel having read some of the recent reviews. But when I considered that my previous reel has lasted 20 years and still going strong I decided to bite the bullet. The unit is as good as my original (which is still in use). The hose has changed and the screws are now thankfully Phillips type. Installation took just under an hour including testing an recycling of packaging. I did make three changes. I added washers to the guide unit screws as the guide unit take all the strain and I felt this would spread the load on the plastic. I changed the tap comnnector for a metal link with a Terry clip. If this was necessary is debateable. I also changed the spray wand for a Audi handgun. I prefer a gun and the Audi unit is one tenth of the cost and lasted twice as long as my previous Hozlock ultra handgun. So great product that is a breeze to use.

This is a rugged and reliable hose reel, with an anti-tangle guide to ensure perfect operation every time, with one minor drawback for extreme long-term reliability. It's such a reliable design for everyday use, that the design has remained identical for over a decade. I was able to replace an old and weathered version that I already had, and I could just remove the old parts from the wall and replace them directly with the new parts. The old reel had operated without failure until about two years ago, which is a testament to how well it is designed. Unfortunately, my reason for replacement is why I've dropped a star from what would otherwise be a flawless review. Hozelock do sell spares for almost every part of this reel, except the one part that is going to fail before all others under ordinary use. Inside the reel is a central pipe through which water flows in, and a rotating cuff around the pipe that diverts water sideways into the hosepipe. To ensure a good seal, two rubber O rings are fitted to the central pipe to stop water leaking out either side of the cuff. Over a decade of use and these rubber O rings became brittle and cracked, causing all the incoming water to leak out inside the reel. Hozelock do not sell these O rings, or any assembly that has them fitted, and the rings do not seem to be any standard size that can be bought elsewhere. I was able to make a temporary fix by taking slightly narrower O rings and packing under them with PTFE tape, but that didn't last a year. I'd still recommend this product as a good purchase, as long as it doesn't bother you that it will fail many years down the line for the sake of a spare part that should cost pennies.

The perfect hose reel, built with quality material, very easy to assemble and install

This is brilliant, bought it in 2018 and has been mounted and in use since. Still working as it should, it’s a bit faded but has lasted. It stays out in the winter so hasn’t been pampered or protected in any way.

Excellent for the price. when purchased was thre best deal available anywhere. when fitting enure sufficient room at the top of placement as hose reel has an overhang on casing. Would suggest someone assists when mounting on wall etc.

My old hose reel finally fell apart so I splashed out on this one. It is a complete game changer compared to my old reel. No more having to manually layer the hose across the reel, the completely enclosed housing hides a clever spooling mechanism so as long as I don’t get the hose kinked it winds straight onto the reel with no problems. There is also a clip to hold a spare hose nozzle. Connects to my Karcher with no problems and the hose length means I can get from the back of the house to the road to wash my car. In fact if Nigel over the road ever annoys me I think it would stretch as far as his letter box. (Only joking Nigel!). Oh one other thing I almost forgot, it lifts off its wall bracket for easy storage in winter. I am very pleased with this purchase.

This is actually a replacement for the same model I bought nearly 30 years ago—yes, 30 years! The original Hozelock reel served me faithfully all that time, enduring decades of full Aussie sun and daily use. It only recently started to leak, which is fair enough after such a long run. The new reel looks and feels just as tough and well made. The hose is sturdy, the casing is solid, and the rewind mechanism is smooth and easy to use. It comes with all the hardware you need to mount it securely to the wall, and the instructions are clear. I had it up and running in no time. It’s great to see that Hozelock hasn’t compromised on quality over the years. If this one lasts anywhere near as long as the last, I’ll be more than happy. Highly recommend if you’re after a reliable, heavy-duty garden hose setup that can stand up to tough outdoor conditions.
