1 year old, and both arrived completely opened with bits missing. Returning immediately.

Cannot be simpler to use.
Simply install the back plate on a wall (high enough) or the ceiling with the supplied screws. Remove the plastic cover from the detector; it will beep once, loudly. Watch your ears. There is nothing else you need to do for the next 10 years!

Installed quite easily
The previous Kidde Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector that was installed nearly 11 years ago was beginning to chirp every minute. I did all the usual steps of changing batteries and cleaning with an air compressor, but it was obvious the unit needed to be replaced. The previous Kidde unit was a hardwired one with a battery as a backup. I chose this unit because it had the 10 year Lithium battery and was not hardwired. The installation was easy and done in just minutes. It covered the existing area of the old unit perfectly. Obviously I can't comment on the battery life, since I installed it only yesterday. I like that it does not require being hardwired. After installation I tested the unit and it works perfectly and is just as loud as the previous unit. Good purchase. I would recommend.
